Maryland was invaded and occupied by northern Militias and the Union army at Lincoln's behest. The legislature was placed under house arrest (in Fort McHenry) and not allowed to vote on a bill of secession. Breckenridge got the clear majority of votes in Maryland, as he did in most of the Southern States. Need I continue?

By all means, since you didn't hit the truth once in your whole statement. The Maryland legislature met on April 27, 1861 and voted against secession. They were not under 'house arrest (in Fort McHenry)' at the time and they did it without being "occupied by northern Militias and the Union Army at Lincoln's behest." And Douglas got the majority of the vote in New Jersey. Were they occupied too?

Thanks for bringing that up.
