I agree.

If I go to a bar, I expect to see people smoking. I was a bouncer/bartender for a lot of years and I never would have complained about people smoking.

It was my choice to work in a place where people smoked and I didn't bitch.

But when I am walking into a non-smoking restaurant and there are 10 people outside the front door smoking and blowing smoke directly into my face as I walk in, I get a little pissed. Smokers want people to respect their right to smoke but they don't want to respect my right not to have to smell it. Does that make sense?

It all depends. Are they just hanging around?
Why would someone hang around the door to a restaurant if they weren't going in to eat or coming out after eating.
Hanging around the door to a bar, I could see.

Are you sure you're not mixing your metaphores?

The business owner/manager can disallow smoking anywhere on the property, not just inside the building. Tell the owner/manager about it and ask them to do something.

And if you complained to the manager of the restaurant are you afraid he would just shrug his shoulders? It's a private business for crying out loud! If the restaurant lets people smoke in the front doorway and it offends you, DON'T GO IN AND SPEND YOUR MONEY!

Puh-leeze. Paranoid at all? Yeah, all those smokers are out to get you personally by intentionally blowing smoke right in your face.

I'd like to know where you find these smokers who blow smoke in your face. Any smokers I know (like myself, although I'm working on quitting now) usually make reasonable efforts to ensure that their smoke doesn't bother non-smokers. If I'm outside, I'll try to position myself upwind of a non-smoker that I'm talking to.

I will agree, though, that if people are smoking near an entranceway, that you will likely have to walk through their smoke to get it in. If there's a sheltered place to do, I'd like to think that most smokers would move a ways away from the door.

NO. They are outside because they were forced there to protect the precious air inside. If NON SMOKING restaurants were popular...it wouldn't take a LAW to Force them to exist. So I figure the only way to provide you with the smoke free environment is to stay home, or just JAIL the legal smokers. Perhaps shooting the smokers would make you happy.
