Yeah - he cited it as an example of the venomous editorials against Taney that ran in the northern press and made no comment upon the factual validity of the unsourced and unsubstantiated claim you now cite as "proof" that they were neighbors. He did no such thing! Chief Justice Rehnquist's introductory remark to the Northern response from the press was:
"Northern opinion, as might have been expected, was critical of Taney's decision."
In citing a southern newspaper editorial, Rehnquist wrote:
"The Baltimore Daily Republican was more sympathetic ..."
There was no mention of "venom." I'll let the readers decide whether Rehnquist cited the articles as you say he did, or whether you should up your dosage of Zoloft.
