The dirty little secret is that Americans have pretty much accepted illegals because they like the short-term benefits- cheap maid, nanny, construction and landscaping services, as well as cheaper produce and meat.
You can find legal nannies- a friend of my mom's runs a nanny service where she goes out of her way to make sure the nannies she hires are legal. However, these nannies cost more and only really rich people hire them.
If the American people really wanted to get rid of the demand for illegal labor, they could do so.
I agree, but it is a hard sell. Are you going to tell the midsized contractor that he has make sure all his employees AND his sub-contractors are all legals?
All of his competitors will continue to use illegals. His clients(including the major homebuilders) will still demand lower and lower prices which can't be delivered without using cheap subs or illegals.
Illegals are a market force.
The only entity with the power and authority to regulate or eliminate a market force is the government.
The American people individually can not hire illegals but businesses will continue to. How do you know if the business you patronize employs illegals? What do you stop buying, produce? houses?
The Gov. needs to do its job here, but they won't. It makes no sense to thwart the demand side of illegal labor when the supply side is wide open.
Not true. Your in Virginia? I'm in California, and don't no any lower or middle class people that hire nannys, maids etc. Zero. The only ones benefiting from this are the corportations and business owners. Counting their profits on the backs of the tax payers.

Are you actually suggesting that most of the middle class in this country have maids and nannys?
