Actually, I really didn't know the answer to that, but with all the "I'm ok, you're ok" stuff in the N.O., anything is possible.

I've seen that stuff in some places ... but anyone who thinks the entire Catholic Church (or even most of Her) is so overcome with such nonsense as to quit requiring a pennance after Confession really needs to take the blinders off.
