A 24-foot-long ''Go Bush" banner hanging on a pizza shop across from the FleetCenter has drawn plenty of attention amid preparations for the Democratic National Convention this week. But yesterday, a city inspector stopped by and slapped Halftime Pizza with a citation for hanging an unlicensed banner.

What can he do to get a permit for the sign? What are the applicable regs.? The city cannot constitutionally regulate the content of speech, only the time, place and manner, and that reasonably. And if the city's pattern of enforcement of its regulations is biased, that might be a constitutional claim as well.

First things first. The owner, friends family, Boston Freepers need to drive around town taking photos of every "unauthorized banner" in town as well as ask the store/restaurant owner if the city has fined them. With that in hand he should tell the city inspector and city hall exactly where to stuff their citation.

Once he appears in court and shows the photos and the statements that he's the only one to get citation --

LOL! You've hit upon the irony of the situation. They're having a RAT convention and there will be plenty of supportive signs both inside and outside the building. Yet across the street is a counter-political sign, and it is prohibited.
