If I had lived there I would have probably gone into geology instead of history...

You're not alone in that sentiment. I considered it very strongly when deciding on my major. ASU has one of the foremost geology departments in the country if not the world.

I think Colorado School Of Mines in Ft. Collins is still the best, but there are a few that run a close second.

I envy you west coast geologists. Structure is exposed and in a lot of cases is still growing.

Here in the east its all covered in soil and weathered into something else.

Learning metamorphic geology in the Blue Ridge is enough to drive you crazy.
