I was a jet engine mechanic. It would have been pretty dire circumstances if any of the bases I could have potentially been at been over run. The good part is I qualified High Expert 5/5 times. I woulda had a sixth, but I got deployed to Japan about a month before I was due to go and that deployment got extended due to Desert Storm.
I was artillery, light towed.
So we had small patrols and 'advance party' go out before emplacing the howitzers.
I always got point man.
(I was the shortest in my unit. Thankfully during Basic and AIT I was third shortest.)
