Why Republicans disgust me
World Net Daily ^ | April 29, 2004 | Joseph Farah

Do you want to know why the Republican Party disgusts me?

Just take a look at the Pennsylvania Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by Arlen Specter.

Specter is a disgusting old political hack who doesn't deserve to be dogcatcher of Bucks County. Yet, he has served four terms in the Senate.

He claims to be a Republican, but he supports few positions in the Republican platform. He is pro-abortion. He is pro-homosexual. He is a big spender. He is a big-government liberal by any standard you want to use.

Finally, this year, someone within the party decided to challenge Specter – a young congressman named Pat Toomey.

Toomey, 42, didn't have much of an organization. He didn't have a lot of money. But he did have grass-roots support from conservatives – people who actually believe in Republican Party principles, not just politicians who call themselves Republicans.

But the party establishment rushed to Specter's defense. Not only did President Bush weigh in to support the 74-year-old Specter, who is on the wrong side of nearly every issue under the sun, but so did the usually reliable junior senator from Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum.

Despite the money advantages, the endorsements and the party establishment firmly behind him, Specter managed to squeak out a victory of less than 20,000 votes in a contest where more than 1 million were cast.

The Republican leadership's way of thinking about this race focuses on Specter being in line for the chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee next year. But that should be reason for opposing him, not supporting him.

In 1987, Specter opposed President Reagan's appointment of Judge Robert Bork to the Supreme Court. He betrayed his own Republican president and a very good jurist. Why the Republican establishment would remain loyal to this unprincipled liberal is beyond me.

"Just how bad was your public school?"

Perhaps he just has core beliefs. Not everyone can be as nuanced as you.

Which one of those guys who wrote that platform in 1896 is running in this year's election?

Perhaps they felt that having Clinton in office and being able to gripe was worth more than having Dole in office and being required to govern.

Why don't you really show that no-good wobbly President Bush and vote for sKerry?
Just 'cause he's a Commie Pinko shouldn't stop you from taking your revenge on Pres. Bush for not implementing every policy you like the way you like, or supporting your candidates.

There's a lot of things about Pres. Bush that I don't like, but I can see the alternates are FAR worse. I'll hold my nose and vote for him. I won't betray my country to its enemies: the Democrats.

Now, think about that as you and your fellow republicans go on ranting at and insulting conservatives. You are indeed doing your part to help ensure a Bush loss.

Look behind you.

You are NOT leading a parade.

You and Farah are pouting, which is unbecoming in grown men.

And, I, for one, don't believe that you voted for Bush in 2000.

"Nah, that's not it. You are just a bit too FR experience-sounding for only a day and a half of posting..."

Well I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. If I'm doing something wrong, something that you don't like, you're going to have to tell me what it is.

Voting for the "lesser of two evils" is STILL voting for EVIL.

And minds that use bumper sticker slogans in place of thinking arent......

After all, from a philosophical standpoint that sentence in fact reads, "Voting for the More Good, is still Voting for the more good"....After all, what is less evil, is by definition more good than its comparative.

Read Books, not Bumper stickers.

"Core beliefs" from WAAAHvoters forced me to live through eight years of Bill Clinton.

With all due respect, screw "core beliefs" when their end result is empowering Democrats.

Joseph Farah believes Anne Coulter is HIS colleague? Help me! And aren't we just crazy for wanting to keep control of Congress. Never heard of such a thing! I also wanted Toomey to win, but he didn't. Farah is fish bait. We also put up with those two harpies from Maine, and John McCain. Farah should move to canada where the prime minister can and DOES decide who exactly will run in each district. If he don't like you, you don't run. Sounds like it right up Farah's alley. Get lost, Farah. And be quick about it.

Norm..

Did you see the announcement today put out by Specter?? It is in a thread here on FR. Specter says he is going his way. Very interesting for those that supported for him.

Who held their nose for Toomey? I sure as heck wouldn't have. Most of Toomey's supporters stuck their finger up their nose and stayed home. Ever thought of that?

It is not what Spector owes Bush, it is about what the next Incumbent fighting for his life in a tough primary over the next 5 years, will Owe Bush.

I remember the same mentality expressed by the party "elite" back in '76 when Reagan challenged Ford.

History speaks for itself.

You're probably right. They needed something to stoke their anger for 4 more years. Afterall, they're "principled Conservatives".

The power in Washington, and the money is very intoxicating. As a congressman, you are paid say $100K, and typically live on at least a few milion dollars budget. How do you get these millions to live like king? Obviously from corporate donnations, and PAC money. The corruption is on both sides of the isle, and Gingrich was going to clean it before he was buldozed out.

"I'll hold my nose and vote for him. I won't betray my country to its enemies: the Democrats."

There we go again with the football game mentality.

Why are the Democrats the enemy? Just because they're the opposing team?

They used to be the enemy because they were liberals, but now that the Republican party is slightly less as far left as they are, it can't be that.

So tell me, what specifically do you dislike about the Democrats. It's not because they're tax and spend liberals, because the Republicans are too. It's not because they're trying to subvert US independence, because the Republicans are too.

So aside from the Republicans being the home team, what exactly do you dislike about the Democrats?

Perhaps he just has core beliefs. Not everyone can be as nuanced as you.

Kerry has core beliefs. He believes he will be President if enough conservatives choose to teach Bush a lesson by sitting out the election. I believe he is right.

Expensive lesson. But hey--it's called being principled (isn't it?)
