This is the truth. I swear I heard this on NPR, and they were quite proud of it.
When the APA changed the DSM to remove homosexuality as a deviant behavior, it wasn't politics per say. It was that the head of the organization at the time was a closet queen and came out afterward. Dropped his wife and kids to join the other team.
My ex-boss, a psychiatrist, confirmed the story as well known.
