Well, this is becoming a bit of a weekly tradition now isn’t it? For a third consecutive week and the fourth time this season, The Walking Dead has solidly beat Sunday Night Football among adults 18-49. In the sixth episode of its fifth season, the blockbuster AMC series drew a 7.3 rating among the key demo while the New England Patriots’ 42-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts got a 6.2. That’s a 15% spread.

Veteran character actor Michael Rooker is long known as a go-to guy in Hollywood for playing it tough and gruff. Most recently, the 59-year-old Rooker has proven to be a reliable TV star, wreaking havoc on the AMC zombie apocalypse hit The Walking Dead, the most watched drama in basic cable history. When not acting, he’s been seen flipping off cameras everywhere, but there’s an admirable reason for it, and we wanted to get to the bottom of that, plus get Rooker’s take on his passion for the outdoors. Rooker grew up not far from his New Orleans-based JFK character...

I have recently had the pleasure of playing Telltale Games' interactive masterpiece The Walking Dead (I'm not done yet, so refrain from spoiling it for me). And one thing that continues to astonish me about pieces of media such as this is how much our culture is fixated on the idea of a flesh-eating animated corpse. From World War Z to Zombieland to Warm Bodies, our society obviously finds something intensely fascinating about zombies, to the point where it is perhaps the most identifiable facet of today's mass media. But why? Why do zombies, of all things, capture our imagination...

Death arrives for them but, even after its arrival, their lives continue. They die but, rather than passing on to the next world, they continue in this one. I woke up this morning and felt like I have a hangover.  My daily routine is to read the news and political blogs every morning.  I like to read well-written articles by smart people.  It’s too easy to just comb the web for trolls, incendiary dissenters, haters, or just Google “Nancy Pelosi” for her incoherent demented comment of the day (sometimes she has two).  Those stories make for good sharing—people like to be outraged, but I feel like it’s time to put on big boy pants. There’s a chasm separating rational-thinking people from zombies these days.  The zombies look like...

Apocalypticism has exploded in popularity and, while nuclear war and pandemics have always been a starting point, the concept of the Zombie Apocalypse trumps them all. The appeal and wild popularity of shows like The Walking Dead, movies like World War Z, and the slew of apocalyptic, gloom and doom series and specials on cable television continues to grow by leaps and bounds. A national effort to unify education standards across America and help American children compete more effectively with students in better-performing nations is actually a dumbing-down of America’s schools, takes away local control, handcuffs good teachers and opens the door for ideological manipulation of our kids. Common Core was developed in recent years as a means of establishing nationwide learning standards, and the vast majority of states signed on, even before the standards were spelled out. And critics of the plan say the emerging reality of Common Core is far different from what was promised.

Flesh is food and the fresher the better. It’s something the zombies know. Probably the only thing, actually. But what about their own dead – or rather, undead – flesh? It’s carrion. Israeli wall in 'World War Z' sparks questions NEW YORK — Brad Pitt's "World War Z" imagines a world overrun by a zombie pandemic, leading to an unlikely new global power structure. Two of the few countries that have kept the zombies at bay are Israel, which shelters Israelis and Palestinians behind a wall, and North Korea, which has removed the teeth of its citizens to prevent zombie biting. It's a curious portrait of geopolitics that's left some moviegoers scratching their heads. Is a wall of unity for both Jews and Muslims in Jerusalem an ironic commentary on the West...

Movies don’t come bigger than this, and zombie flicks tend to come an awful lot smaller. In Shaun of the Dead, the undead had to content themselves with snacking off a handful of British actors in a deserted pub. Here, it’s the future of humanity at stake. This time, Brad Pitt is here to save us, and the skies are soon full of crashing helicopters, screaming jets and stuntpeople being sucked out of aircraft. So what’s it like? Well, it’s awfully like all the epic action films made by Roland Emmerich, ranging from the nearly sublime (Independence Day) to the...

World War Z could be the most expensive flop in cinematic history. Brad Pitt's zombie action flick has been mired by negative publicity concerning rewrites, re-shoots and an inexperienced creative team that has caused the film's budget to increase from $170million to a reported $400million. Based upon Max Brooks's science fiction novel, the film now has the biggest budget ever recorded.

Syrian Rebel Bites Heart of Dead Soldier: Video BEIRUT (Reuters) - A video of a Syrian rebel commander cutting the heart out of a soldier and biting into is emblematic of a civil war that has rapidly descended into sectarian hatred and revenge killings, Human Rights Watch said on Monday. The New York-based group said an amateur video posted on the Internet on Sunday shows Abu Sakkar, a founder of the rebel Farouq Brigade who is well known to journalists as an insurgent from Homs, cutting into the torso of a dead soldier. The video has caused outrage among both...
  • Obama the Zombie? Just a Coincidence, Says the Company (Obama Zombie Range Targets)

Obama the Zombie? Just a coincidence, says the company In response to the controversy over a Zombie-target resembling President Obama that was displayed at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting this weekend, Zombie Industries released a statement to MSNBC explaining that they sell the product in part to prove that they do not “discriminate against African-Americans.” They said, “any resemblance to actual persons (living or dead), events or locales is entirely coincidental.”

"AMC has struck gold with its hit drama, The Walking Dead. The independent cable television company has created much more than a compelling zombie story. In fact, The Walking Dead is the highest rated show on television among the much chased after 18 to 49 year old demographic, according to The New York Times....... Technology is playing a role in the show’s success. Alexia Quadrani, a media analyst at JPMorgan, gives Netflix at least some of the credit...... AMC’s willingness to release its content onto video streaming services like Amazon Prime means viewers have a cheap and convenient way to...

"*So, “The Walking Dead” is pretty much the biggest thing on television right now. Check out the ratings for the season three finale: 12.4 million. That beats most scripted network shows. For a cable program to do that? It’s groundbreaking, really. It shows just how much people really do love seeing zombies getting impaled by various sharp objects. We love “The Walking Dead,” in spite of all of its flaws, like the snore-inducing second season (leave the #&%(-ing barn already!) and the constant behind-the-scenes drama that has robbed it of some momentum and focus. However, we do have one serious...
