Parenting in the current political climate isn't for the faint of heart. Recently, my 9-year old daughter asked me, "Mama, I know it's really bad they're putting people in jail, but do those people think, 'Well, at least I'm safe from war?' " My 7-year old daughter quickly followed up with, "Why would someone say Donald Trump is keeping us safe?" Clearly, my two white kids, like all children in the United States, are absorbing the racialized rhetoric about immigration and "others" that's everywhere right now. Numerous studies have shown the early and negative impact society's racism has on children's...

Putting aside the hateful, despicable slurs on Sarah Jeong's Twitter feed, here are some that caught my attention. have you ever tried to figure out all the things that white people are allowed to do that aren't cultural appropriation. there's literally nothing. like skiing, maybe, and also golf. white people aren't even allowed to have polo. did you know that. like don't you just feel bad? why can't we give white people a break. lacrosse isn't for white people either. it must be so boring to be white. basically i'm just imagining waking up white every morning with a terrible...

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Catalina Celentano used to hold training sessions for hospital workers in Lynn, Mass., to familiarize them with the cultures of patients from Cambodia, Russia and the Dominican Republic. When she moved to New Hampshire, she suddenly found herself in an ethnic vacuum. “I went from being able to speak Spanish every day to not speaking Spanish at all because there wasn’t anybody to speak Spanish to,” said Mrs. Celentano, who was born in Colombia to a Colombian mother and Hungarian father. “The only person I spoke Spanish with was a cleaning lady and she moved back to...

Professors at the University of Wyoming say the school’s new cowboy slogan promotes “white heterosexual” masculinity. Expanding upon the University of Wyoming’s Cowboy mascot, the school recently adopted a new slogan — “The World Needs More Cowboys.” But some professors are up in arms over the choice, claiming that it promotes “white heterosexual” masculinity. Christine Porter, associate professor of kinesiology and health at the university, is leading the charge against the new slogan. “The history of cowboys, of course, is much more diverse than that racially, and presumably also for sexual orientation,” Porter said in a comment. “But the image...

On Saturday, the U.S. Embassy in Haiti warned American citizens, volunteers and missionaries in Haiti to stay in place and hunker down after angry demonstrators attempted to get past a barricade and security guards at a Port-au-Prince hotel. CNN reports that American Airlines, JetBlue and the Spirit Airlines (whose official slogan is: “We’re like a Greyhound bus with wings”) canceled all flights to Haiti following unrest in the country related to rising fuel prices, corruption and widespread poverty. When comparing them side-by-side, the story of the American Revolution ain’t got shit on the history of Haiti. For black people, Haiti...

Fewer Births Than Deaths Among Whites in Majority of U.S. StatesSabrina Tavernise June 20, 2018WASHINGTON — Deaths now outnumber births among white people in more than half the states in the country, demographers have found, signaling what could be a faster-than-expected transition to a future in which whites are no longer a majority of the American population....“It’s happening a lot faster than we thought,” said Rogelio Sáenz, a demographer at the University of Texas at San Antonio and a co-author of the report. It examines the period from 1999 to 2016 using data from the National Center for Health Statistics,...

7-year-old trans child Milan Tyler won the Los Angeles Pride Parade with a fierce strut in heels on the streets of West Hollywood, California, on June 10. Thousands cheered on participants at this year’s parade for LGBT Pride Month in June, and Tyler received some of the biggest support. “I’m not deciding what my kid wants to wear and how to behave when it comes to the things he likes,” his mother Maggi said. Tyler was born Ryder but recently asked to be called Milan instead. His mother and sister London were asked to attend the parade by Brits...

NextGen America, the brainchild of billionaire leftist donor Tom Steyer, launched a Mother's Day ad against Republicans, warning mothers against the party as if it were a hateful, destructive pathology preying upon their children. At the climax of the ad, a distressed mother refers to the white nationalist rioters in Charlottesville, Va., last year as her son's "college buddies." "I started noticing some issues with him, maybe in middle school," the mother begins. "The stealing started out small, a few dollars here and there. Not from me, oddly enough, but from less fortunate kids." "He was never afraid to talk...

George Washington University is hosting a seminar on combating “Christian privilege” in America. According to an event description, students in a 90-minute training session will learn about ways American Christians receive things they don’t deserve and are not worthy of getting: “How do we…acknowledge that Christians receive unmerited perks from institutions and systems all across our country?”

Oprah Winfrey latest movie “A Wrinkle In Time” just premiered, and it’s officially been labeled a flop. The award-winning book that the movie is based on is a science fiction fantasy about Christianity’s concept of good versus evil, but Winfrey and the Black Lives Matter director Ava DuVernay erased Christianity, making it New Age and politically correct. You’ll be shocked how “Christians and white people” are now blamed for its horrendous reviews. Oprah Winfrey starring in “A Wrinkle In Time” (left), a stock image of moviegoers (right). Madeleine L’Engle’s 1962 award-winning book “A Wrinkle In Time” is known for its...

Charmaine Pruitt wrote the names of 12 churches on a sheet of paper, tore the paper into 12 strips, and dropped them into a Ziploc bag. It was Sunday morning and time to pick which church to attend. This time of the week two years earlier, there would have been no question. Ms. Pruitt, 46, would have been getting ready for her regular Saturday afternoon worship service, at a former grocery store overhauled into a state-of-the-art, 760-seat sanctuary. In the darkened hall, where it would have been hard to tell she was one of the few black people in the...

The United States Postal Service said it is investigating a racial sign put up outside its Flemington location. USPS Postal Inspector Greg Kliemisch said Friday afternoon the sign, which read "March is national stop blaming white people month! Accept responsibility for your own bad choices. Hug a white person!," was put up sometime Thursday. It was taken down in the afternoon by employees, he said. Kliemisch said posting signs on the building is strictly prohibited. He could not confirm whether or not the location had cameras outside the building that captured the incident. The sign is similar to messages in...

A sign declaring March to be “Stop Blaming White People Month!” has caused a fury in a New Jersey community -- and prompted an investigation to find out who posted it. In its entirety, the bright yellow and orange sign read, “MARCH is national Stop Blaming White People Month! Accept responsibility for your own bad choices. Hug a white person!” The sign was discovered at a U.S. Postal Service location in Flemington, about 26 miles north of Trenton, the state's capital. The town's population of about 4,500 people is about 78 percent white, according to U.S. Census figures. Greg Kliemisch,...

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has announced the cancellation of a discriminatory tutoring program that only asked white students to pay. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has terminated a tutoring program that only charged white students. “U.S. minorities” were offered the service for free, regardless of their income level. Both low-income white students and veterans were also offered the tutoring service for free. Under the policy, white students would be forced to pay for the service, while wealthy minority students would not. Campus Reform reported that the policy seemed to be in direct contradiction with the University of Wisconsin’s non-discrimination...

On a riverbank in Texas, a master of disguise waited patiently with his accomplice, hoping that his target, an infamous horse thief, would show himself on the trail. After four days, the hunch paid off, when the bandit unwittingly walked towards the man who haunted the outlaws of the Old West. Springing from the bushes, the cowboy confronted his frightened mark with a warrant. As the desperado reached for his weapon as a last ditch effort, the lawman shot him down before his gun could leave his side. Though the quick-draw tale may sound like an adventure of the Lone...

Stephanie Lugardo’s second-grade classroom at Academia Antonia Alonso in Wilmington, Delaware, is bubbling. Smiles break out on an array of faces, and the chatter spills out in English and Spanish. This is an incarnation of a new American pluralism, one of the latest iterations of Walt Whitman’s “teeming nation of nations” flowering in “their curiosity and welcome of novelty.” Downstairs, in a kindergarten class, an African American student exclaims to her friend, “I know how to say that in Spanish!” José Aviles, the head of Academia Antonia Alonso, describes the school as a sort of multicultural nirvana. “We tell parents,...

A Drexel University professor who asked for “White Genocide” for Christmas last year is finally resigning. George Ciccariello-Maher, now a former professor from Drexel, has a history of controversial tweets targeting conservatives and white people. “All I want for Christmas is White Genocide,” he tweeted, followed up by, “To clarify: When the whites were massacred during the Haitian Revolution, that was a good thing indeed.” In addition to targeting white people and conservatives, Ciccariello-Maher has also made controversial posts about soldiers. Ciccariello-Maher even went as far as blaming the “white supremacist patriarchy” for the Las Vegas shooting, going on to...

Two professors from San Diego State University claim in a new book that farmers’ markets in urban areas are weed-like “white spaces” responsible for oppression. Pascale Joassart-Marcelli and Fernando J Bosco are part of an anthology released this month titled “Just Green Enough.” The work, published by Routledge, claims there is a correlation between the “whiteness of farmers’ markets” and gentrification. “Farmers’ markets are often white spaces where the food consumption habits of white people are normalized,” the SDSU professors write, the education watchdog Campus Reform reported Wednesday.
