The Secret Service would like $8 million to build a replica White House for training purposes following a string of security lapses, including one last year when a fence-jumper made it deep inside the President's residence, the Secret Service Director said Tuesday. Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy told a House Appropriations subcommittee that agents would be able to "train more efficiently" if they had access to a "mock-up" White House. Clancy said he'd like for the replica to be built in Beltsville, Maryland, about 20 miles from the actual White House. Clancy estimates that the design and construction of the...

The White House’s new rules exempting an administrative office from being subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) have raised eyebrows among transparency advocates. The FOIA allows citizens to obtain government documents from federal agencies. In a Federal Register notice scheduled to publish on Tuesday morning, the action to exempt the Office of Administration is listed as a final rule, implying there will be no opportunity for public comment. The notice highlights that the Executive Office of the President, Office of Administration, is removing regulations from the Code of Federal Regulations related to the status of records created and...

Four Reasons the President’s TechHire Initiative Will Lead to a More Diverse Tech Sector Yesterday the President launched TechHire, a timely initiative linking 20 communities and 300 employers to fill 120,000 tech jobs through accelerated training programs, such as coding bootcamps. TechHire was the last initiative I worked on before leaving the White House, so I wanted to share my thoughts on why I think it will improve the skills gap and develop a more diverse tech sector by addressing four critical areas: · Increasing access to $100 Million in educational grants · Standardizing the way top coding bootcamps are...

-For convenience I used private email address while at the State Department because I wanted to use one device for both personal and work emails..... You need a different device for each email account? Who knew? - There was no security breach because the server was at a private location (home) surrounded by secret service. .. Ever heard of hacking? The hacker is at a remote location and doesn't have to be physically there - I deleted personal emails How do we know that they were personal. No one knows because it's a home brewed server - I handed over...

Hillary Clinton is not the first official in the Obama administration to have been caught using private email accounts. And likely she will not be the last. Promising the most transparent administration in the history of the universe, I’m starting to get the idea that perhaps the administration might have a whole bunch of officials – inside and outside the White House -- who are trying to skirt Freedom of Information requirements by claiming their private email addresses are privileged. You might remember Lisa Jackson, the former head of the EPA. She got bounced in part because she cultivated various...

Ehyptian President El-SISI is serious about fighting terroris. According to Al Monitor: The Egyptian Ministry of Religious Endowment has shuttered 27,000 local places of worship to fight terrorism. An Egyptian administrative court on Feb. 18 upheld the Ministry of Religious Endowments’ decision issued in September 2013 to close down neighborhood places of worship of less than 80 square meters (861 square feet), a move intended to protect young people from the militancy and extremism that can prevail in such places, which lack the legal standing to hold Friday prayers.

SEOUL, March 6 (UPI) — A North Korean news website denounced remarks a former U.S. negotiator made in Seoul and threatened to decimate the White House and other “strongholds” into a wasteland. The strongly worded statement, released on Saturday Pyongyang time, focused on the statements made by Christopher Hill, the former top U.S. delegate in the six-party talks. The negotiations, which addressed the North Korean nuclear crisis, were discontinued in April 2009 when North Korea pulled out of the talks.

The White House, State Department and Hillary Clinton’s personal office knew in August that House Republicans had received information showing that the former secretary of state conducted official government business through her private email account — and Clinton’s staff made the decision to keep quiet. Sources familiar with the discussions say key people in the Obama administration and on Clinton’s staff were aware that the revelation could be explosive for the all-but-announced candidate for president. But those involved deferred to Clinton’s aides, and they decided not to respond. In the end, Clinton’s staff waited six months — until after the...

Two top congressional chairmen demanded Wednesday that the IRS turn over all its emails that might have given private taxpayer information to the White House, after President Obama’s lawyer last week passed the buck to the tax agency, insisting they would be able to search for the emails. The IRS last year had claimed it didn’t have the technological ability to search for those emails, so Senate Finance Chairman Orrin G. Hatch and House Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan went to the White House for them. In letters last month White House lawyer W. Neil Eggleston declined, saying he...
