Apologies for posting from TPM. Discussion on a thread sent me looking for information on the Walker/WEDC situation as that was a new program he implemented from the start. While I generally do not like this source, the information appears rather cut and dried. Even if 1/2 of it is exaggerated, there is a lot to be concerned about. [SNIP]"One of his first acts in January 2011 was to call an emergency session of the state legislature. One of the first pieces of legislation he signed as governor, Act 7, privatized the state’s department of commerce by turning it into...

Link to Fox>/a> Andrew LaCombe, FOX 11 News Published: May 8, 2015, 9:43 am | Updated: May 8, 2015, 6:04 pm MADISON – A report out Friday morning casted more doubt on how the state’s job creation organization is doing. An audit says the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) hasn’t even tracked how many jobs it’s created. Some lawmakers on both sides say WEDC could be wasting millions taxpayer dollars. Republican Gov. Scott Walker says the agency is still an important tool to spur the state’s economy. Legislation was in the works to merge WEDC with another state agency that...

Link to Wisconsin State JournalDue to copyright issues, I am providing a link to this article . I was criticized yesterday for providing older articles on this subject, so I am linking one that was written yesterday. In the left margin of this article, there are links to three more current articles on the subject of the ongoing investigation into Walker's WEDC. The issues raised here need to be factored in to the vetting process. One reason I respect and admire 2ndDivisionvet is because he posts articles about Cruz that present both sides. Sometimes he takes some heat from those...

UPDATE: WEDC award recipients outsourced Wisconsin jobs MADISON (WKOW) -- At least two companies that received financial awards from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) later outsourced jobs to foreign countries, with one of those companies receiving a second WEDC award after the fact. A 27 News investigation has uncovered that both the Eaton Corporation and Plexus Corporation received millions of dollars in financial awards from WEDC, only to later lay off workers whose jobs were taken by employees at the companies' foreign facilities. In 2011, WEDC awarded Eaton Corp. with up to $1 million in tax credits if the...

Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin wants to make sure everyone knows he loves Florida. He began his remarks at the Economic Growth Summit on Tuesday by ticking off city after city that he has visited, saying that he has an aunt who lives in Bonita Springs, a lot of friends in the Villages, and that he first visited Disney World in 1971. “We’ll be back many more times,” Mr. Walker promised as he concluded his remarks. “We love the connection to Florida.” His outpouring of adoration for the Sunshine State may have been in response to the media’s portrayal of...

During the 2010 campaign for governor, Scott Walker promised to create 250,000 jobs in his first term. Toward this end, one of his first acts as governor was to privatize the state's economic development agency. Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) opened its doors in July 2011. After a series of damning audits, which highlighted mismanagement and incompetence, and news reports of special treatment for Walker donors, on Monday Democratic state lawmakers called for a federal investigation of the scandal-plagued entity. Walker is the Chairman of the Board When walker created WEDC in 2011, he named himself Chairman of the Board....

Wisconsin Democratic lawmakers called on federal investigators Monday to launch a probe into Republican Gov. Scott Walker's job creation agency after a newspaper reported the organization made a questionable loan to one of Walker's top donors five years ago.

Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca and Sen. Julie Lassa, who both sit on the Wisconsin Economic Development Association's board, told reporters at a news conference that they are outraged by the revelations in the Wisconsin State Journal's story. The report raises serious questions about whether the agency and Walker's administration did an improper political favor for the donor, they said.

As governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker was a supporter of a company that helps wealthy Chinese citizens immigrate to the the United States. This revelation stands in contrast to his recent statement that legal immigration policy should be based on “protecting American workers and American wages.” Not only did Walker previously support so-called “amnesty” (which some argue would be a magnet drawing more illegals) — but as governor, he “has been a long time friend” of a company based in Beijing and Milwaukee that “helps foreign investors become United States Citizens through the Department of Homeland Security Immigrant Investor (EB-5)...

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker heads to Europe this week on a trade mission featuring private meetings with business and government representatives in Germany, France and Spain, as he ramps up for a likely bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. The most high-profile event on Walker's itinerary comes Tuesday when he's slated to deliver a 15-minute speech titled "Opportunities for bilateral trade and investment" at the Hannover Messe trade show in Germany. That is the world's largest industrial fair, Walker's office said in the documents detailing the trip provided to The Associated Press.... Walker's last trade...

As he gears up his putative 2016 presidential campaign, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) has found himself increasingly mired in a mess back in Wisconsin. It's not the kind of scandal that sends tabloids into a lather, but it has Democrats pouncing and good government types scolding, and even some state Republicans have piled on Walker. The mess involves an entity called the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. (WEDC), a state agency Walker himself established when first elected to fulfill his promise of creating a wave of new jobs. The problems at WEDC have multiplied since. Recently, Walker was forced to...

MADISON — Secretary of State Doug La Follette wants his fellow Democrats to quit bashing the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. It appears that La Follette’s plea went unheard, as three senate Democrats on Wednesday called for a criminal investigation into the state’s main business subsidy agency. “In some cases, the violations of state statute that took place appear to have risen to the level of criminal offenses,” Democrat state Sens. Bob Wirch of Somers, Dave Hansen of Green Bay and Jon Erpenbach of Middleton wrote in a letter to Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne. “We ask that you investigate...
