TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Most Presidential libraries are constructed after the President completes his term. However, according to KOAT-ABC, a New Mexico man has determined the location for President Obama's library and has marked it with a sign that is sparking controversy in one small town. The sign rests on top of an outhouse. It reads: Obama's Presidential Library. Some in town view the sign as bad taste while others are supportive. One man told a local reporter that folks are treating it as a tourist destination and that it is frequently photographed. The man responsible for the sign would not...

Syrian forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad have fired Scud missiles at rebel fighters in recent days, Obama administration officials said on Wednesday. The move represents a significant escalation in the fighting, which has already killed more than 40,000 civilians in a nearly two-year-old conflict that has threatened to destabilize the Middle East. One American official, who asked not to be identified because he was discussing classified information, said that missiles had been fired from the Damascus area at targets in northern Syria. “The total is number is probably north of six now,” said another American official, and that the...

OKLAHOMA CITY – With our current poll showing the majority of Red Dirt Report readers are skeptical or out-right against the newly-hatched American intervention in Uganda and east-central Africa, one of the craftsmen in Congress of the so-called “Plan Uganda” operation, U.S. Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), is defending the this U.S. foreign policy move and our involvement there, as approved by Congress. We wrote several stories since Friday on the issue, which can be found here, here and here. Two members of the Oklahoma congressional delegation responded to our inquiries about the "Plan Uganda" operation. The Obama administration, with Secretary...

Americans give President Obama more credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden than they award George W. Bush, according to a Gallup poll released Tuesday. In the survey, 35 percent of people said Obama deserves a “great deal” of recognition; 22 percent said the same for Bush. The U.S. military and the CIA were given the most credit for bin Laden’s death: 89 percent said the military deserved a great deal of credit, and 62 percent said the CIA did.

OSLO (AFP) – Helicopters buzzed through central Oslo's grey skies Wednesday as the city beefed up security on the eve of US President Barack Obama's visit to accept his controversial Nobel Peace Prize. Two military choppers circled above Obama's hotel while others flew over the city centre, their sound reverberating throughout normally-peaceful Oslo as Norway laid on unprecedented security measures for the visit. "All that noise we are hearing and everything we are seeing, it's a bit creepy," May-Britt Gundersen told AFP as she walked alongside barricades blocking the street facing the Grand Hotel, adding that for Norwegians such a...

Violence has been on the rise across much of Afghanistan since President Obama ordered 21,000 U.S. troops to the country, shifting the focus of the U.S.-led war on Islamic extremism from Iraq. Now some are calling Afghanistan "Obama's war." Do you agree? Is Afghanistan 'Obama's war'? Yes. No. I'm not sure.

EVENTS ARE CONVERGING TO ELEVATE the nuclear crisis with Iran into the central crisis of the Bush presidency. War presidents are graded not by circumstances they inherit, including those that lead to war. They are judged by how they react to those circumstances.Franklin Roosevelt as a war president is defined not by the attack on Pearl Harbor, but by the radical war aim he laid out against Japan and Germany in the wake of Pearl Harbor--unconditional surrender--and by his relentless and successful pursuit of that war aim until the day he died. When Lyndon Johnson became president in November 1963, he...

GWOT Is It? By Jed Babbin Published 8/22/2005 12:09:12 AM Today is Day 1 of the President's 5-day campaign to counter growing public opposition to the war in Iraq. Public confidence in Mr. Bush's conduct of the war has sunk so low, he needs to undertake more than a five-day campaign with a built-in withdrawal date. Just as this war will outlast his presidency, so must the momentum toward victory he creates by his leadership. In this, the President is failing. Regardless of the political consequences, he must reassert the leadership he has shown before. Almost four years ago President...

Ladies and gentlemen, I want to share a couple things here with you from National Review Online today because I think a lot of this is going to dovetail with what a lot of you are thinking. Can I just run a thought by you, run a hypothetical by you? How many of you hold the following basic view as something that you think is an inherent truth of America; that after two years of the most vocal, the most piercing, the most shocking you've ever heard, seething rage and hatred directed at a totally decent and upstanding man, George...
