Just another report of voting machine problems: in Greenwich, Connecticut, when we voted this morning as the polls opened at 6am, only one machine out of 6 was working. The back-up was significant, as there were dozens of voters waiting. Now, this is strange: these are machines that have been in use for more than 20 years. Why, all of a sudden could the poll workers not get them unlocked? Who knows. It was strange - in contrast to the usual pleasant voting experience, people were testy, the poll workers somewhat confused and in a couple of instances, actually rude....

State Faces Shortage of Polling Places for Special Election Although there are plenty of candidates for governor, there may not be enough places for Californians to cast their ballots. Statewide, officials say there will be 40 percent fewer places to vote during the recall election than in a normal election. Sacramento County is losing more than 100 of its normal polling places. Irregularities at Holy Savior precinct affect Barbour, Gunn election Voters in a Clinton precinct must return to recast their ballots for either incumbent state Rep. Jep Barbour of Yazoo City or Philip Gunn of Clinton. Hinds County Republican Party officials have thrown out the Holy Savior Catholic Church precinct votes from last week's primary because more votes than registered voters were cast in the primary race.
