Pinehurst, N.C. — A local survivor of Pearl Harbor has spent a lifetime making sure people don't forget the terror that killed so many of his comrades. Roy "Swede" Boreen, 96, escaped a ship where more than 440 sailors were killed. He has lived in Pinehurst for more than 30 years, and Wednesday the community rallied around him in tribute. At age 21, Boreen prepared to die a terrible death, coated in oil, bobbing in sea water. Minutes earlier, he'd looked out a porthole aboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma.

It was an emotional homecoming for dozens of Pearl Harbor survivors and WWII veterans at Honolulu International Airport Saturday afternoon. Live bands, hula dancers and other military servicemen and women gathered around Gate 18 to help welcome our nation's bravest. "I just want thank them for their time and what they've done to sacrifice for this nation," said Joshua Carmack, USN Chief Petty Officer. Each hero was escorted from the plane down an isle of hugs, handshakes and aloha. American Airlines sponsored the round-trip 75th Pearl Harbor Commemoration Flight, from Los Angeles to Honolulu, which hosted approximately 120 Pearl Harbor...

Diane Reiman, sister of Vietnam veteran Stephen Carl Reiman, is given the casket flag from her brother's coffin during his funeral on Tuesday morning at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville. Stephen Carl Reiman, who served in the Navy during the Vietnam war, died on Nov. 17, in Casper. He suffered from PTSD and was homeless before he was discovered in a hotel room in Sheridan with only a few belongings, including some Bruce Springsteen CDs and his autobiography. Reiman appeared to have no family until his sister was finally located. EVANSVILLE, Wyo. (AP) — Hundreds of people...

PLANT CITY (FOX 13) - PLANT CITY FIRE HAS ANTI-TRUMP GRAFITTI There are lots of questions surrounding a fire that gutted a home on Johnson Street in Plant City overnight. Along with heavy damage, anti-Trump graffiti was sprayed on the house, inside and out. The family who lives there was spending the night with relatives, but Navy veteran Matthew Smith says his home was targeted because he is a Donald Trump supporter.

Willie N. Rogers was an American hero, and at age 101, he was a living example of the nation's history. He was a member of the "Greatest Generation," which defeated the Axis powers in World War II, doing his part as a master sergeant in the all-black Tuskegee Airmen during the era of racial segregation in the U.S. military. The longtime St. Petersburg resident died Friday from complications of a stroke. He was the oldest surviving member of that original legendary 100th Fighter Squadron. Mr. Rogers' nephew, Clinton Glover, said his uncle deserves to be celebrated for his contributions to...

The Department of Veterans Affairs has dropped plans to start covering gender transition surgery for veterans amid concerns about costs. The proposed rule change that would have allowed the VA to pay for such surgeries was withdrawn from the Fall 2016 Unified Agenda, a biannual publication of proposed regulation changes that was due Monday. “VA has been and will continue to explore a regulatory change that would allow VA to perform gender alteration surgery and a change in the medical benefits package, when appropriated funding is available,” the VA said in a statement Monday. VA officials sent a letter dated...

. . .Ernest Walker -who goes by the social media moniker of Ernest Blackbatman- was questioned by a Dallas,TX, Chili’s manager on the authenticity both his military service as well as his service dog. According to Walker’s post on Facebook, Walker was “approached by an old white guy, maybe in his 70s, with a Trump Shirt” who asked if Walker had been in the 24th Infantry Division, presumably because Walker was wearing the digital ACU uniform with the 25th ID patch on his sleeve. . . Walker then said that the elderly man “said he was in Germany, and that...

How dare he speak this way to the queen? Someone at NBC really dropped the ball last night. Not only did Trump fare pretty well during the MSNBC Commander-in-Chief Forum, Hillary came away looking really, really, bad. As Dan pointed out earlier, the media is freaking out - falling all over itself in an attempt to prop-up Hillary’s performance. The size of their meltdown, as usual, is inversely proportional to how badly their preferred candidate is doing. The less successful she is, the more they lose it. So it has to drive them nuts that the following question (asked by...

Lt. Col. Louis Dorfman has so much confidence in Donald Trump, he gave the presidential candidate his Purple Heart medal. “He handed me his Purple Heart,” Trump told an audience in Ashburn, Virginia. “I said to him, is that like the real one or is that a copy? And he said that’s my real Purple Heart,” Trump said. “I have such confidence in you,” Trump said Dorfman told him. He then invited Dorfman onto the stage to pose for a photo as the crowd chanted “USA! USA! USA!”

The fiery crash on a warm Florida evening on July 4, 2012 left an unconscious man trapped in his burning car. Seemingly out of nowhere, a figure plunged out of the darkness through a sheet of flames to rip open the door and carry the driver to safety just moments before the car exploded. Like a scene from a movie, the Independence Day hero retreated to the shadows of obscurity, but it wouldn’t be the last time he would help someone in danger. A modest man, Sabin Barto, 39, doesn’t talk much about his 10+ years in the U.S. Navy....

A U.S. officer who helped liberate 2,500 Jews during the Holocaust has died at the age of 99. On April 7, 1945, Lt. Frank Winchester Towers, who was the division liaison officer of Regiment 743 of the 30th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, approached (with his regiment’s tanks) a stopped train in which there were 2,500 Jewish prisoners bound for the Theresienstadt concentration camp in Czechoslovakia. The Nazis stopped the train because they were ordered to destroy it and drown the passengers in the Elbe river. When the U.S. regiment approached, the passengers shouted, “We’re...

A terminally ill former World War Two Spitfire engineer's 'last wish' to be reunited with the iconic plane was granted after top brass saw him looking forlornly through a fence at one from his wheelchair. Ken Farlow, 95, was an electrical engineer during the war, carrying out vital work to keep Spitfires and Hurricanes in the air in Syria and Palestine. But after being diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, the father-of-three asked daughter Helen if he 'could see a Spitfire - one last time'. Helen, 52, took him to Gloucestershire Airport where the vintage planes were being maintained by the...

I was watching a Chuck Baldwin sermon on John chapter 7 titled "Elitists have always hated Jesus". It is one of three sermons on a DVD labeled "Christ and the Pharisees". About 34 minutes into the sermon, he mentions that 25% of those surveyed in 1995 replied "Yes" when asked if they would fire on Americans. Shortly after, he stated that the number was 66% in 2013. I have been trying to verify the 66% figure. I found one article posted on the 'net, where that number was given as current (in 2013); but have been unable to verify the...

I joined as a member last week. 'bout time, eh? I have since learned that there are "Sticky" forum posts that have dead info, that Admins and Moderators are tough to contact (or don't reply), and that some links don't work. e.g. their FAQ link is dead. Their OK Molon Labe oath (signup) is dead. So the question is posed; Is Oath Keepers dying? Are there in fact fewer Oath Keepers, or has the BHO administration shoved some back underground? I was once told that there are NO EX-Marines. Once a Marine, always a Marine. I would like to think...

I am 59 years old and a traditional Army Guardsman with 21 years service. My retirement package is already prepared and sent in thru an excellent program run by the Indiana Guard for it's soon to be retired members. This was done last September. I officially enter the tender embrace of the VA in November. My question: How good is TRICARE? Not just me but my dependents? Because of the nightmare of Obamacare I lost my employer provided health insurance and have been running on a VERY unsatisfactory plan thru my wife's employer. We would like to go 100% TRICARE...

Pictured is Mr. Howard Shriver, a WWII veteran who served in the Marianas Islands and the Philippines. He lives in an assisted living facility in Marietta, OH and will celebrate his 98th birthday on July 12. Let's make his 98th memorable. I am asking anyone who would like to thank a member of the Greatest Generation - the first Soldier called up from Williamstown, WV - to send a birthday card. I'd love to see him get hundreds of cards, to show appreciation and give him something to talk about for a while. If you can support him with a...
