Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò — a former apostolic nuncio to the United States — recently published a “testimony” accusing a number of top Vatican officials of having known about Cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s sexual misconduct for many years. He also claims that, despite knowing of the claims that McCarrick was a sexual predator, Pope Francis removed sanctions imposed by his predecessor, Benedict XVI, raised McCarrick’s stature and relied on his advice regarding major appointments. Viganò has called for Francis’ resignation on that basis. Although some corroborating evidence has emerged, much territory remains to be explored. The response from the Vatican and...

Shortened title. Full title: 'Crackpot,’ ‘Terrorist’: Pope Francis Allies Mobilize Against Archbishop Accusing Vatican Of Abuse Cover-Up Archbishop Carlo Vigano accused Pope Francis of covering for Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, an alleged sexual abuser. Pope Francis would neither confirm nor deny Vigano’s allegations on Sunday: “I won’t say a word about it.” Some of Pope Francis’ allies have mobilized against Vigano, attacking his motivations and credibility. Prominent liberal Catholic voices have mobilized against Archbishop Carlo Vigano, who accused Pope Francis of ignoring credible sexual misconduct allegations against former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick. Vigano published an 11-page letter Saturday night that laid out...

A monsignor who worked at the apostolic nunciature to the United States has corroborated an explosive report accusing Pope Francis of rehabilitating Cardinal Theodore McCarrick despite knowing of his record of homosexual abuse of priests and seminarians. Contacted by the Catholic News Agency (CNA), Monsignor Jean-François Lantheaume, the former first counselor at the apostolic nunciature in Washington D.C., declined to give an interview, but affirmed the veracity of the report by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò. “Viganò said the truth. That’s all,” he wrote to CNA.

A Church with almost two thousand years of history behind it has inevitably passed through many moments of crisis and many moments of reform. In each instance when crisis-as-cataclysm has been transformed into crisis-as-opportunity, "reform" has meant a return to the Church's roots in order to better engage the spirit and the needs of a given time and place. "Reform," in the history of the Catholic Church, has meant retrieving, and developing often forgotten elements of the Church's tradition. It has not meant rejecting the past, or severing the present and the future from the past. Genuine "reform" has always...

THOSE who seek to put a tight or traditional definition on the meaning of family are out of touch and run the real danger of creating exclusion, division and inequality. This is something which the organisers of the World Meeting of Families have been learning. The fact individuals and groups do not feel welcome at the gathering is a matter of record and something which as a campaigner, activist and a public representative I regret. Next month, my department will publish research showing the notion of the “nuclear family” is outdated and for hundreds of thousands of people does not...

A research project by an international Catholic think tank, to be launched today by Mary McAleese, is to challenge the theological evidence for church teaching that homosexual acts are "intrinsically disorder". Plans for the study by Wijngaards Institute for Catholic Research will be unveiled at Trinity College by McAleese, a former president and an outspoken critic of the Vatican. The institute will call on Pope Francis to question official church teaching on same-sex relationships. "I am hoping the project will advance an intelligent and scholarly debate about the warped, damaging, unchristian, unscientific, fake gender ideology which currently underpins Catholic teaching...

VATICAN CITY—In his first public statement on the horrifying, devastating report on sexual abuse within the Catholic Church, Pope Francis stated he would address the controversy in detail once he’s done talking about climate change for a few more weeks. The head of the Roman Catholic Church claimed he is deeply concerned with the tragic report, but is “just too swamped” with work fighting climate change, criticizing capitalism, and advocating for other issues of social justice to talk about the repulsive report at the moment. “Rest assured, once I have exhausted my talking points on the need for government policies...

Reuters reports: A heat wave in North Korea has led to rice, maize and other crops withering in the fields, “with potentially catastrophic effectsâ€, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said on Friday. The world’s largest disaster relief network warned of a risk of a “full-blown food security crisis†in the isolated country, where a famine in the mid-1990s killed up to three million people. It said the worrying situation...

Cardinal "Molester" McCarrick The great awakening is underway. The unmasking of McCarrick exposed the pervasive prelate coverup of homosexual sexual predation in the American Catholic Church. These swarmy power brokers have colluded far too long at the tragic expense of innocent boys and seminarians. For 60 years, Ted McCarrick roamed the halls of seminaries, harassing, raping, and assaulting young males around the world. His brother bishops all knew and they all stayed silent. How fortuitous and revelatory that McCarrick, the Molester would divulge his personal role in the pre-Conclave lobbying effort to elect Jorge Bergoglio as Pope. The notorious lavender...

Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuck, leader of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church has emphasized the importance of dialogue and forgiveness between the parties at war for the future of Ukraine. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has cost more than 10,000 lives since 2014. "There is no official dialogue among the different Orthodox churches, and there is no official dialogue between Catholic churches and our Orthodox brothers,” Shevchuck said, adding that this is a cause for “regret.” Shevchuck made his remarks after a closed-door roundtable discussion on religious freedom with Vatican officials and diplomats at the U.S. embassy to the Holy...

June 5, 2018 (One Peter Five) – After expressing my concerns from afar about the Vatican's proposed agreement with the China here and here, I decided to go to Rome to talk directly with senior Vatican officials. As someone who has worked with the Chinese Catholics for decades, I wanted to find out what these officials thought the Church would gain from inking an agreement with the Chinese Communist Party. I also wanted to let them know that, in my opinion, such an agreement would be seen by Chinese believers as nothing short of a rank betrayal. So it was that...

VATICAN CITY (AP) -- Four months ago, Pope Francis dug himself into the biggest hole of his papacy by strongly defending a Chilean bishop accused by sex abuse victims of witnessing and ignoring their abuse. On Friday, he emerged from that debacle after strong-arming the entire Chilean bishops conference to resign for what he said were their "grave defects" in handling abuse cases. He accused them of destroying evidence of sex crimes, interfering with investigations and negligently placing children at risk of being raped by pedophiles. By repenting for his original sin with what amounts to an ecclesial nuclear option,...

Perry’s talents earned her mansions. Surely the Christian thing to do would be to let the sisters spend their last years on Earth in their own convent Though it came to pass with zero mainstream or social media notice, Sister Rita Callanan’s heartfelt plea to Pope Francis to save the Los Angeles Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary convent from pop star Katy Perry fell on deaf ears. Sister Callanan was last in the news when she told Britain’s Daily Mail that she was appealing directly to Pope Francis to intervene in her 3-year old legal battle with Perry...

Dolan, The Met & The Politics of Carnival Maureen Mullarkey May 9, 2018 The question begs to be asked: What is the point of Cardinal Dolan? Whatever vocation he might once have espoused has dissolved in the acid of celebrity. He is an embarrassment to his office, and a disincentive to every serious-minded, diligent working priest in his archdiocese. Let him retire to the Hamptons, or South Beach, some glittering water hole where he can do what he is best at—glad-handing. He is an episcopal show-boater, the grinning face of a hierarchy desperate for the moment’s approval.Timothy Cardinal Dolan, hail-fellowing...

What would happen if the world took Pope Francis's advice (via a tweet)? "Do we really want peace?  Then let's ban all weapons so we don't have to live in fear of war," said the pontiff. Do we really want peace? Then let’s ban all weapons so we don’t have to live in fear of war.— Pope Francis (@Pontifex) April 29, 2018 While on the surface, the disappearance of all weapons might suggest the inability to do violence, in reality, it would mean the certain annihilation of the West as a civilization. For starters, the pope seems to forget that...

Saudi Arabia has agreed a deal with the Vatican to build churches for Christian worshippers in the Arab country, it is claimed by Middle Eastern media. If confirmed, the supposed agreement between Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran and Mohammed bin Abdel Karim Al-Issa of the Muslim World League would mark a historic first in Saudi history. The cardinal has visited Saudi Arabia this year and met the royal family, urging the Muslim country to treat its citizens equally.
