What would happen if the world took Pope Francis's advice (via a tweet)?

While on the surface, the disappearance of all weapons might suggest the inability to do violence, in reality, it would mean the certain annihilation of the West as a civilization.
For starters, the pope seems to forget that violence and the things that motivate it – hate, envy, rapacity, and plain old evil – do not need weapons. Had he turned to the book he claims to represent, the Bible, he would have seen that the first act of violence, of murder – that of Cain against his brother, Abel – did not require weapons, just a violent and envious will. The brothers "were in the field [when] Cain rose against Abel his brother and killed him." Genesis 4 does not shed light on how this first fratricide occurred, but it was most assuredly done without a formal weapon – maybe a large rock, a branch, or simply Cain's bare hands.
And it is from here that one understands why the West would be swept away without weapons and walls – another defense mechanism Pope Francis wishes to see eliminated. The same hate, envy, and rapacity that some non-Western peoples have for the West – understood in the context of a "clash of civilizations" – would remain, but there would be little to stop it, deter it, or keep it at bay.

Tell that to the woman who gets dragged by a rapist into an alley and then is beaten and raped by him. Tell it to the elderly man or woman who is mugged coming home from church in a bad neighborhood. You don't need weapons to have violence, Francis. If you ban weapons, people will pick up sticks and rocks and go after each other.

If we hear trumpets, and God sent legions of Angels to remove all articles of violence from the the world, I’m down with it.
But if the pontif wants the world disarmed, he needs to start with the violent, and finish with the just.

You misspelled it: It’s “that Commie Poop is a Moron!” Faithful Catholics the world over should threaten to leave their church unless this guy goes! I mean how many “world leaders” have come from Latin America? Answer: None!
No he is just evil.
Just like most Metro areas, ban the guns and then only the crooks are armed.
The law abiding become instant victims.
The Vatican is fairly well armed. So this character the Pope can go first and disarm!

If only God had told Cain to put down his automatic weapon of unkn. origin, we would have all lived in peace. Fat chance that will ever happen. It will always be a mater of survival for the fittest. The meek will end up on the trains to the resettlement areas. Its all part of our life cycle, its not going to change here or anywhere else man decides to go. 2118 revolution on Mars, no more immigration allowed. Think not?
