The New York Police Department said it has seen a dramatic rise in hate crimes following the election of Donald Trump, with the majority of incidents directed at Jews. There has been a 115 percent increase in bias crimes in New York City following Election Day, with Jews being targeted in 24 of the 43 incidents during that nearly monthlong period. The anti-Semitic incidents represented a threefold increase from November 2015, The New York Observer reported. In total, hate crimes have increased 35 percent from 2015, the NYPD's chief of detectives, Robert Boyce, said Monday morning. "We had a huge...
  • There is something really wrong with the Detroit/Wayne county vote totals

There are some really strange things going on in Detroit with the vote. First the Detroit Free Press wrote an article saying that over 59% of Detroit precincts couldn't be recounted due to mismatched votes. Then the claims that there are 85,000 uncounted votes in Detroit. So I did a little digging. First the Wayne County Clerk lists 1.134 million ballots cast, but if you add the total presidential votes there are 1.252 million total. Second, Detroit is listed as having a 97% voter turnout, but is short the 85,000 votes vs ballots cast. This matches votes cast for other...

In Mr. Pence’s New D.C. Neighborhood, Not Exactly The Welcome Wagon By Ian Shapira. December 3. In the affluent Washington neighborhood of Chevy Chase, the tinsel, poinsettias and Christmas trees are competing for attention this holiday season with an unusual house decoration: gay pride rainbow flags. When news filtered out in late November that Vice President-elect Mike Pence was temporarily moving into the white colonial with green shutters on Tennyson Street NW — in the heart of Chevy Chase, a liberal Democratic stronghold — neighbors decided to greet the Republican interloper with polite protest: rainbow flags flapping from their homes....

At least 58 people were shot in Chicago over Thanksgiving weekend, leaving eight dead as the city faces the highest number of homicides in more than a decade. The latest victim is an 18-year-old who was shot dead in his vehicle at 2pm on Sunday, NBC reported. Two gunmen outside a house party on Saturday night left one dead and five others injured, while another shooting killed a 16-year-old boy on Friday evening. In October, Chicago surpassed 600 homicides this year, in numbers that have not been seen since 2003. There were 468 murders in 2015, and 416 the year...

There is understandable fear in the land among many African American and Latino families about a Donald Trump presidency. It’s not just incidents of racism and hate; it’s what his policies will mean for their well-being and for their children. So it’s a good time for a new study out this month that shows how much ground black and Latino children have to make up in California. Many of the biggest racial disparities are in education, according to the scorecard compiled by Children Now, an advocacy group based in Oakland. For example, in Sacramento County, while 49 percent of white...
  • Queens Man Cuffed for Pushing Straphanger Onto Harlem Subway Tracks; Yelled, 'I Hate White People'

Cops busted a Queens man for trying to push a straphanger onto the subway tracks in Harlem and yelling, “I hate white people!” Police cuffed Gary Weeks, 51, of Wavecrest for the bizarre attack Monday at 2 p.m. at the 4-5-6 subway station at 125th St. and Lexington Ave., officials said. The straphanger was waiting for a northbound train when Weeks walked up to him and tried to push him onto the tracks. The victim got away from Weeks, as other people started pointing and yelling at the attacker to simmer down. He then began yelling about his hatred for...
  • Why People Lost Their Minds When A Brooklyn Store Played ‘Sweet Home Alabama’

Three days after the election, my wife and I were shopping at the Fairway Market in Red Hook, Brooklyn. For those unfamiliar with it, Fairway is a less corporate, more co-op version of Whole Foods, offering pretty produce and exotic cheeses that don’t come cheap. The mood in the store was glum. As in most of Brooklyn, people stared ahead, moving slowly, still in shock from the political earthquake of Tuesday night. After getting our Brazilian Arabica ground for drip (I know, I should really use a French Press), Libby and I walked towards the organic maple syrup. That’s when...

BOSTON, Mass (WPRI) — The search is on for a driver, accused of a hit-and-run that injured police officers. According to Boston Police Superintendent Randall Halstead, police were responding to a report of a person with a gun at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, when they spotted a car that matched one of the three possible descriptions given. When approaching the car, the driver took off, dragging two officers and nearly hitting two others.

On North Avenue, young black men with nothing to do wander past boarded-up buildings and dilapidated shops. It is a sad, desolate landscape. They and other African Americans in Milwaukee contributed to Hillary Clinton's crushing defeat in the presidential election: not only did they not vote for her, as had been expected, some even backed Donald Trump. Wisconsin's largest city is also America's most racially segregated one, according to a study based on the 2010 census. And Wisconsin served up one of the biggest surprises of an election day that shocked America and the world: no one thought the midwestern...

Back in the summer of 2012 the City of Los Angeles realized that they had a serious budget problem on their hands and the culprit, as in so many other cities, was the city’s extremely generous pension plan for municipal workers. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, backed by the city council, jumped into the fray and passed what was then described as sweeping pension reform and patted themselves on the back for a job well done. (LA Times, 2012) Despite a raucous protest and threats of a lawsuit from city labor unions, the Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to roll...

It is time to start locking up local officials like Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel for interfering with the enforcement of federal immigration law. Those who, like Emanuel, enable lawless so-called sanctuary cities deserve to be behind bars. Radical left-wingers don't believe America should have borders at all. During the recently concluded election campaign, Democrat Hillary Clinton even endorsed the idea that foreigners have a right to move to the United States. After Republican Donald Trump said in September, "No one has the right to immigrate to the United States," Clinton's Ohio campaign put up a tweet featuring Trump's statement followed...
  • ‘Hamilton’ actor won’t apologize for addressing Mike Pence

The “Hamilton” actor who drew fire from Donald Trump for addressing Vice President-elect Mike Pence from the stage said Monday he’s not apologizing — and invited the president-elect to come see the Broadway smash himself. Brandon Victor Dixon said he spoke to Pence on behalf of the cast at the request of show producer Jeffrey Seller and has no regrets for being the face of Friday night’s controversial monologue. “There’s nothing to apologize for,” the actor told “CBS This Morning.” “When you have a platform, art is meant to bring people together and meant to raise consciousness. And when you...

Nearly 500 protesters marched to Trump Tower from Queens on Saturday to protest what they called the “racist, sexist, anti-gay” views of President-elect Donald Trump. The march across the 59th Street Bridge to the Fifth Avenue skyscraper included City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and city Comptroller Scott Stringer and was organized by Queens City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence was booed Friday night at a performance of the Broadway hit “Hamilton.” Pence was walking to his seat at the Richard Rodgers Theatre when a few scattered claps turned into a thundering chorus of boos. The crowd continued to mock Pence throughout the performance, including during the song “Yorktown,” when Alexander Hamilton and Marquis de Lafayette sang “Immigrants, we get the job done.” They high-fived each other as the audience cheered. Brandon Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr, addressed Pence after the curtain call, saying the diverse cast is “anxious” about his administration.

Donald Trump is not happy Mike Pence wasn't welcomed with open arms by Broadway on Friday night. Trump demanded that the cast of Hamilton apologize to the Vice president-elect after they stopped the show to address him directly about their fears. The president-elect, who took to Twitter on Saturday morning to complain, claimed the cast had 'harassed' Pence. 'Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing,' Trump wrote. 'This should not happen!' 'The Theater must always be a safe and special place. Donald Trump, the first New York City kid to become president since FDR, will also be the first commander-in-chief to move to the White House from an apartment. True, his 30,000-square-foot, gilt-slathered Trump Tower penthouse is no ordinary pad, but the fact that he lives in the innermost heart of what you might call the inner city means that security arrangements don’t just inconvenience a few neighbors; they screw up a sizable chunk of Manhattan. Fifth Avenue in the 50s is almost always clotted with pedestrians and cars, and this time of year it becomes even more congested as department...

A skit portraying the assassination of President-elect Donald Trump by two 10th-grade students at Marshall High School provoked anger and dismay from the parents of a student who watched it unfold last week. Harold and Melinda Bean said that in the skit, entitled “The Assassination of Donald Trump,” one of the boys made a gunfire sound effect with his cell phone as the other boy, portraying Trump, fell to the ground in mock death. “I don’t understand how the teacher can repeat an apology and be right there back at work on Monday morning,” he said. “Though we understand she...
  • Boston’s Catholic Mayor Vows to Fight for Abortion Access

Mayor Martin Walsh of Boston, Massachusetts, has vowed to keep abortion clinics open in the city, even if President-elect Donald Trump succeeds with pro-life initiatives. Walsh said that if the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision is overturned, and the issue of legal abortion is again governed by the states, the city of Boston should probably have more abortion providers, to ensure that the procedure is available to women traveling from other states where abortion is banned. “That is something I am sure we will be focusing on as we move forward,” he said. Although President-elect Trump has never suggested...
