The Secret Service special agent in charge of security during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia next month said there will be a security perimeter around the Wells Fargo Complex that will extend higher than five feet. While speaking with protesters Sunday night, Memphis Police Department Interim Director Mike Rallings called for a 30-day moratorium on killing. OLOMA, Mich. (WOOD) — Larry Darnell Gordon has been identified as the man who took a deputy’s gun inside the Berrien County Courthouse, fatally shooting two bailiffs and injuring two others. The mother of Gordon’s children, his ex-wife Jessica Gordon, said officers came to her home to notify her of what happened. The sheriff confirmed Gordon’s identity publicly in a news conference shortly after 9 p.m. Monday. CHICAGO -- New statistics out Friday show there is an average of 10 shootings in Chicago a day. There were 355 shootings and 429 shooting victims in June. There were also 72 murders last month, up from 46 in June of 2015. At the halfway point for the year, homicides citywide have jumped 49 percent, hitting levels unseen since the late 1990s. Through June 19, Chicago had more homicide than New York City or Los Angeles combined. Chicago police are blaming repeat offenders with illegal guns and ties to gangs. A Baltimore rapper named Tyriece Travon Watson, who went by the stage name Lor Scoota, was fatally shot in broad daylight at a busy intersection in Friday, police said. He was 23 years old. Watson had just left a charity basketball in Baltimore game calling for "peace in the streets" when he was killed. He was driving in his car when an unknown black male wearing a white bandana stepped into the street and opened fire, Baltimore police said. Watson was brought to a local hospital but died from his injuries.

Baltimore had the highest increase in homicides in the nation last year, a criminologist commissioned by the U.S. Department of Justice reported, with more than twice as many extra killings as the three cities that tied for second. The city suffered 127 more homicides in 2015 than in the previous year, Richard Rosenfeld wrote in "Documenting and Explaining the 2015 Homicide Rise: Research Directions," released this month by the Justice Department. Chicago, Houston and Milwaukee came in second with 61 more killings. Cleveland and Washington had 57 more.

At least 18 people have been shot so far this weekend and six of those victims are dead. One of the shootings happened in the University Village neighborhood early Saturday morning. Two security guards were called to a large outdoor party at a housing complex in the 1300 block of West Hastings. Someone started shooting and a 24-year-old man was shot in the back and killed. At least 29 people have been wounded, three fatally, in shootings since midmorning Monday in Chicago, authorities said. At 10:45 p.m., a 21-year-old man died after being shot in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said. The man was walking in the 5600 block of South May Street when someone in a passing black sedan fired shots, striking him in the left side, police said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was initially listed in serious condition. He was later pronounced dead, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

Hispanics make up 39 percent of the new cadet class, in a department that is 27 percent Hispanic, while Asian and Pacific Islanders make up 21.9 percent of the new cadets, or triple the percentage of current officers of that ethnicity. The percentage of black cadets is 16.4 percent, slightly above department demographics, despite efforts by Mayor Bill de Blasio to increase the force’s African-American makeup to 23 percent from the current level of 15 percent.
