Add Macy’s to the long list of Union Square retail stores that have closed recently — the department store announced this week that it would close 150 locations in the coming years, including its flagship store in San Francisco.

One of San Francisco's last remaining toy stores may have to close its doors if business doesn't pick up soon. The beloved Jeffrey's Toys in Union Square, which has been family-owned and operated since 1938, has been hit with hard times. "We all know, the pandemic has been hard on people, the uptick in crime. I look around me right now and see so many buildings that are closed and shuttered. Why are we here? We love San Francisco, we love toys, and we're the type of family that doesn't give up," said co-owner Matthew Luhn. Luhn says this week...

Cops are trying to identify the baby-faced teens caught on wild video trashing an NYPD car in Union Square on Friday when Twitch star Kai Cenat’s unlicensed PS5 giveaway erupted in rioting — a melee City Hall blamed partly on “outside agitators.” Police on Sunday released photos of six of the eight troublemakers estimated at between 14 and 18 years old who kicked, jumped on and danced atop a parked department car during the violent mayhem, which left at least seven people injured, authorities said.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed is pushing back against reports of a retail “collapse” in the city’s downtown, saying that the departure of many high-end stores is the result of “changes to retail” in the economy in general. As Breitbart News has reported, there is an ongoing retail exodus from San Francisco, particularly in the area around Union Square and Market Street, at the terminus of the city’s famed cable car, where tourists arrive. The reasons are many, but chief among them is the rise of crime in the downtown area, which spiked with the emergence of “mass looting” events,...

On a rainy afternoon in April, Union Square Park was, as is often the case, home to a band of protesters. This time, the cause was not inequality or political oppression, it was a mollusk — an octopus to be precise. Protesters held signs reading “let’s stop this cruelty” and “#stopoctopusfarm” beneath images of the leggy creature. Amidst rising demand for the tentacled delight, Spanish company Nueva Pescanova has announced that it will open the world’s first octopus farm in 2023. But the plan is mired in controversy with environmentalists, zoologists and animal lovers decrying that it would be a...

San Francisco’s Union Square, the high-end shopping district at the center of the city, is boarding up for the Christmas shopping season after a string of “mass looting” events that began on the weekend before Thanksgiving. Normally, Union Square is festive and bright in December. Its giant Christmas tree and menorah attract visitors from across the region, as does its outdoor ice skating rink. Situated alongside the city’s famous cable car, it is an oasis of prosperity in a gritty downtown. However, this year is different, as the San Francisco Chronicle reports: As San Francisco approached the critical December shopping...

[...] “We're going to be making some changes to Union Square and how cars are able to access,” [SF Mayor London Breed] told reporters after the burglaries. “There will be limited access in terms of when you come to this area.” [...] It seems as though the Union Square police takeover is a test balloon for an ostensibly liberal city fully ceding to capital and conservative talking points — the natural result of months and months of fear mongering about Business Owner Rights and crime and especially bogeyman District Attorney Chesa Boudin, who’s facing a recall effort. Contrary to the...

The new normal? Bay Area is hit by THIRD consecutive day of looting as 50-strong hammer gang storms jewelry store after Macy's and Lululemon stores were hit: Thieves take advantage of woke 'misdemeanor' law The San Francisco Bay Area faced a third consecutive day of brazen shoplifting on Sunday A group of about 40 to 50 teenage looters wielding hammers smashed glass cases at a Hayward jewelry store and ran off with an unknown amount of goods at around 5.30pm Sunday The suspects also reportedly ran into other stores in the Southland Mall and walked away with clothes and shoes,...

Massive looting in San Francisco’s central Union Square on Friday evening led local police to limit car access to the plaza, which is the centerpiece of the downtown area and one of the most popular tourist destinations on the cable car route. The San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday that gangs of looters emptied out high-end stores the night before, including Louis Vuitton. ...San Francisco has been at the forefront of left-wing cities in “criminal justice reform” and police reform. Earlier this year, the mayor announced that the city would redistribute over $100 million from law enforcement to projects aimed at...

Tomorrow marks an annual rite of passage for open borders, Marxist demagogues. Their annual trek to Union Square to make it known how much they despise the capitalist system which provided them with their iPhone 6s and high-speed Internet hookups. Well, this year-as in years past-Joanna Marzullo and her compatriots in NY ICE will provide a much-needed counterpoint to the pro-amnesty, anti-free market imbeciles who’ve decided, without any hint of irony, to amass in a park filled with statues honoring American patriots. If you’d like to join them, and are in the New York Area, you’ll find the details below....

Witch doctor convicted of selling crystals in Union Square after judge rejects argument that he’s an artistAngel Silva, 51, tried to claim at this Manhattan Criminal Court bench trial that his rocks and crystals were art. But Judge Diana Boyar rejected that argument and said he needed a vendor's license.A witch doctor peddling what he claims are holistic rocks and crystals in Union Square was convicted Wednesday for selling the items without a permit. Angel Silva, 51, failed to convince the judge that his goods are works of art, which would exempt them from street vendor requirements. His attorney, Steven...

One of the more interesting portions of Manhattan’s geography is Union Square Park, which serves as a farmer’s market, transit hub, and rallying point for political activists of varying political stripes. One of the groups that has used Union Square to showcase its views, both today and in the past, is the Communist Party. However, this past friday saw a protest sponsored by the New York Libertarian Party that was entitled Ban the Scan, and intended to speak out against what it perceives as misguided policies initiated by the Transportation Security Administration, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security...

My apologies for beginning this entry with such a startlingly vulgar image, but I thought it appropriate to visually demonstrate the level of debate I encountered from open borders anarchists during the May Day rally held at Foley Square. These two characters-who obviously eschew fasting as a form of political protest-are from the very violent, yet strangely ineffectual, organization known as Antifa. They oppose what they describe as “fascism” by replicating the methods and tactics of brownshirts. More on them later. I will begin our journey into the depths of Marxist inadequacy, however, chronologically. I and several members of New...

CALL FOR MAY DAY 2010 UNITY COALITION May Day 2010 is rapidly approaching. This year’s May Day is more important than ever as the economic and financial crisis continues to strike a heavy blow on workers from the U.S. and around the world. A recovery with no jobs is a recovery solely for the multinational corporations, who are raking in record profits as the people face increasing poverty, joblessness, homelessness, disease and death. The escalation of war abroad in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the racist, ruthless military occupation of Haiti demand our response.A powerful and massive united fight-back against this...

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A string of antique stores were busted Thursday for allegedly hiring dozens of illegal immigrants, selling fake pieces and engaging in the black market ivory trade, federal authorities said. During searches of 11 locations, agents arrested 29 foreign nationals from Israel, Mexico, China and South America on immigration violations, said Virginia Kice, spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The investigation involved more than 150 agents from ICE, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which was looking into whether the businesses illegally imported and sold ivory and ivory products....

An attempt to erect a 16-tonne ice pop in a New York square [Union Square] froze traffic and created a sticky situation for the company behind the stunt. The soft-drink maker Snapple tried to get into the Guinness World Records book by installing the 7½-metre confection in downtown Manhattan on Tuesday. As a construction crane began to haul it upright, a pink tide of kiwi-strawberry-flavoured fluid spread across Union Square. The slush forced pedestrians to flee for higher ground. Firefighters closed off several roads, fearing that vehicles and bicycles could slip. "What was unsettling was that the fluid just kept...

Two dozen San Francisco schoolkids sporting white turtlenecks and Santa hats got a very un-Christmaslike civics lesson the other day when they showed up at Union Square hoping to delight Christmas shoppers with holiday carols. "They just wanted to set up next to the Christmas tree and sing,'' said Donna Vargas, one of the parents who escorted the fifth- and sixth-graders from San Francisco Day School on Friday's outing. Instead, they got the boot. Seems they didn't have a city permit -- so after a brief run-in with the park's security, the kids were shooed away. "How can children not...
