Anti-Semitic incidents within the Labour party contributed to a record rise in attacks on Jews in the UK last year, a charity report has found. The Community Security Trust (CST) warned that anti-Semitism increased to “unprecedented” levels between 2014 and 2016 following a string of high-profile problems in Jeremy Corbyn’s party. The charity revealed its highest monthly total for attacks came in May last year, just days after Naz Shah, a Labour MP, was suspended from the party alongside Ken Livingstone the former London mayor.

Nigel Farage has backed Britain introducing “extreme vetting” measures as he defended Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban. The former Ukip leader suggested the UK Government should adopt similar border policies as he insisted the US President was “entitled” to enforce his widely criticised immigration crackdown. Mr Farage told the BBC’s Sunday Politics he blamed the ban on German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the country's open-door policy towards those fleeing war-torn countries in the Middle East. He said: "I mean frankly since I made those comments we had the Merkel madness, and I think Trump's policy in many ways has been...

The group, which represents banks, finance firms and the professional services industry, now believes that Britain’s departure from the EU represents “a once-in-a-generation opportunity” for a strategic re-think of commercial relationships with the rest of the globe.

In the days following his election victory in November, Donald Trump could barely be reached on the telephone by Theresa May. But on Friday Mr Trump marked the start of “this most special relationship” by taking her hand. The brief moment of familiarity came little more than an hour after the pair met for the first time as the president guided Mrs May down a slope at the White House. But on Friday it was being described as a symbol of what Mr Trump went on to depict as the renewed bond between Britain and the US. Before they met,...
