The first volunteer in a fast-tracked British safety trial of an experimental Ebola vaccine made by GlaxoSmithKline received the injection on Wednesday, trial organisers said. The candidate Ebola vaccine, which GSK co-developed with the U.S. National Institutes of Health, has also been given to 10 volunteers taking part in a similar separate trial in the United States, and so far there were no signs of any serious adverse reactions, doctors said. The vaccine being tested in the UK is designed to specifically target the Zaire strain of Ebola, the one circulating in the West Africa epidemic, the worst Ebola outbreak...

Support for UKIP has surged to 25% in the polls and the party could win a remarkable 128 MPs in a general election, experts have claimed. A Survation poll for the Mail on Sunday found a repeat of the Clacton by-election result next May would see the Conservatives lose 100 seats and Ed Miliband at No 10. With Washington pressure rising, secretary of state heads to Vienna next week as target date for agreement on curbing Tehran atomic program nears America’s top diplomat is plunging back into Iranian nuclear talks, keeping one eye on the longtime US adversary and the other on political developments at home, as pressure rises in Washington for a deal ensuring the Islamic Republic cannot become a nuclear state. 'We are reaching the end game in Europe. If they don’t launch real QE soon, the consequences are too awful to contemplate,' warns RBS. A key gauge of deflation risk in Europe is flashing red, dropping to record lows on fears of fresh recession and lack of decisive action by the European Central Bank. The sudden lurch downwards came as Bank of America warned that France’s debt ratio could rocket to 120pc of GDP within five years, unless the EU authorities take radical steps to reflate the region’s economy. Italy’s debt could threaten 150pc even earlier. The 5-year/5-year forward swap...

As many as 2.5 million French men and women live abroad—and more are leaving every year, mostly heading to London. The French Foreign Ministry said 1.6 million people left the country last year, The Independent of London reported Saturday. The data include those who had registered at French consulates abroad. “The real figure is twice as high,” Hélène Charveriat, the delegate-general of the Union of French Citizens Abroad, told the Independent. […] “Young people feel stuck, and they want interesting jobs. … Businessmen say the labor code is complex, and they’re taxed even before they start working. Pensioners can also...

Macedonia on Saturday ruled out the Ebola virus as the cause of death of a British man in the Balkan country on Thursday. "We have just received the results from the lab in Hamburg and they are negative for Ebola, which means that the patient did not have the Ebola virus," said Dr. Jovanka Kostovska of the Health Ministry's commission for infectious diseases. Authorities sealed off the hotel where the Briton had been staying and put 35 people in isolation on Thursday when he died. The man had arrived in hospital a few hours earlier suffering from fever, vomiting and...

The young women from Britain, France and elsewhere are typically ensnared by older women who befriend the girls and convince them they will be taking an active role in a holy war. ‘As soon as they manage to snare a girl, they do everything they can to keep her,’ says the brother of one such teen. They are the brides of an Islamic Frankenstein. Hundreds of teenage girls from Britain, France and elsewhere in Europe have been lured to Syria to serve as spouses for Al Qaeda terrorists and other jihadists fighting there, according to published reports Friday. Many of...

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Kremlin-backed Russia Today news network has rolled out a provocative ad campaign that takes a sharp poke at U.S. media and the U.S. decision to invade Iraq in 2003. The pitch is aimed at convincing Americans of the merits of Russia Today - or RT - as an alternate news source to U.S. networks. Featuring a stylized image of former U.S Secretary of State Colin Powell at the United Nations, one ad reads: "This is what happens when there is no second opinion. Iraq War: No WMDs. 141, 802 civilian deaths." The campaign includes two other...

British doctors, nurses and soldiers sent to fight the Ebola outbreak in West Africa will not automatically be brought back to the UK for treatment if they are infected with the virus. A total of 750 British troops are being sent to Sierra Leone to tackle the Ebola outbreak, along with hundreds of NHS volunteers who responded to an appeal from the Chief Medical Officer, Prof Dame Sally Davies. However, both the Department of Health and the Ministry of Defence admitted yesterday that medical and military personnel would not be guaranteed repatriation if they developed Ebola while working on the...

Just last year, Conservative Party grandee Kenneth Clarke described them as a "collection of clowns" – yet now they represent the greatest electoral challenge to the three main U.K. political parties for decades. The U.K. Independence Party (UKIP) - the closest the U.K. has to the U.S. tea party - has emerged from the fringes to the limelight, winning its first seat in the U.K. parliament in a by-election on Thursday. Referendum on EU membership UKIP member of European Parliament (MEP) Patrick O'Flynn wrote that if UKIP's candidate comes "a good second" in Heywood and Middleton, "my party will have...

LANGUAGE matters and every day our lives are governed by things we are told. And language means the use of words. That is why propaganda is the first weapon of the dictator - the power to bend the real meaning of words in order to bend the listener/reader's mind. The two weapons of the propagandist are the misnomer (the wrong word with the wrong meaning) and the euphemism (the wimp that dare not say what it really means.) Way out in the lead for both categories is the BBC. Listen to the news and you'll see what I mean. The...

.....11:55 Brian Stimpson, who has lived in Clacton since 1948 tells the BBC: "The result is fantastic. I was at the town hall last night till 4am. I was always a Tory voter but I'm not any more. This country needs a change. We are in a mess. We've got to get out of the EU. The future doesn't look too bright unless there is a dramatic change-and UKIP offers that."... 11:49 Mr. Straw acknowledges the last Labour government made a "mistake" when it failed in 2003 and 2004 to put in place transitional controls for immigrants from countries that...

n his acceptance speech Mr Carswell, who gained 21,113 votes (59.75%) on a 44% swing from the Conservatives, said: "I resigned from parliament to face this election because I answer first, foremost and last to you. You are my boss. I will not let you down. "To my new party I offer these thoughts: humility when we win, modesty when we are proved right. If we speak with passion, let it always be tempered by compassion. "We must be a party for all Britain and all Britons: first and second generation as much as every other. Our strength must lie...

Terrorist group Isis may be considering using Ebola as a suicide bio-weapon against the West, according to a military expert. The virus is transmitted by direct contact with an infected person who is showing the symptoms – and it wouldn't be difficult for fanatics to contract it then travel to countries they want to wreak havoc in, according to a military expert. Capt. Al Shimkus, Ret., a Professor of National Security Affairs at the U.S. Naval War College, said that the strategy is entirely plausible. He told Forbes: 'The individual exposed to the Ebola Virus would be the carrier. In...

A damning report earlier this year into the Rotherham sex abuse scandal found police and council bosses turned a blind eye to the exploitation for fear of being labelled racist. Some victims were gang raped, while others were groomed and trafficked across northern England by groups of mainly Asian men. The report by Prof Alexis Jay, the former chief inspector of social work in Scotland, said senior officials were responsible for “blatant” failures that saw victims treated with contempt, ignored or categorised as “out of control” when they asked for help. More than 6,000 children across England have been reported...
