FULL TITLE: Were aliens the source of UFOs spotted above Norway in the 1950s? No, says the CIA: ‘That was us’ The CIA has claimed responsibility for various UFO sightings in the 1950s They say lights over Norway can be attributed to their U-2 aircraft The plane began flying in secret from 1955 and remains in operation today It is capable of flying up to 70,000 feet, meaning it was much higher than conventional planes in the 50s and 60s This meant that, when some pilots saw sunlight glint off the planes above them, they reported them as UFOs as...

Sam RoJune 30, 2014 Today is the 106th anniversary of a historic explosion that still has no clear explanation. It happened in Tunguska, a remote forest area in the middle of Siberia. The blast had the power of 15 megatons of TNT, roughly a thousand times that of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima Japan. The event was so powerful that it was felt and heard a thousand miles away. Locals believed the blast was supernatural, caused by a god that was punishing people for their wickedness. Scientists, on the other hand, believed it was a meteor. Here's Where It...

As one of the few pioneering female chemists in the 1960s, Stephanie Kwolek invented the flexible, tougher than steel fibers that were used to create life-saving body armor for law enforcement and soldiers. Kwolek died this week at the age of 90, her co-workers at DuPont, the chemical company where Kwolek worked, confirmed to ABC News. "She leaves a wonderful legacy of thousands of lives saved and countless injuries prevented by products made possible by her discovery," DuPont CEO Ellen Kullman said in a statement.

CAMP PENDLETON (CBSLA.com) — Did you see strange lights in the night sky? Our KCAL9 Street Team mobilized Wednesday night after receiving several reports of orange lights appearing various parts of southern Orange County. Viewer “Marilyn” sent KCAL9 video footage that apparently showed two round and apparently parallel objects pulsing and hovering near Trabuco Canyon around 10:15 p.m. Several viewers reported spotting similar objects over Camp Pendleton. Authorities at the U.S. Marine Corps base confirmed there was live fire training last night. Similar sightings were also reported in northern San Diego County and parts of Riverside County. It wasn’t immediately...

Recently I was looking around on some of the conspiracy UFO kook sites out there (hey don't judge me, it is a hobby, I take it all with a rather large grain of salt but find the theories fascinating) and recently one thing that totally amazed me. When I was looking at very old threads around the 2008/2009 time frame there were a lot of threads that were giddy with the anticipation that Obama if elected and after he was elected would be at the forefront of disclosing the "Truth about UFOs". Many of the threads said how finally we...

Aliens almost definitely exist. At least, that's what two astronomers told Congress this week, as they appealed for continued funding to research life beyond Earth. According to ABC News, Dan Werthimer, director of the SETI [search for extraterrestrial intelligence] Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley, told the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology Wednesday that the possibility of extraterrestrial microbial life is "close to 100 percent." "In the last 50 years, evidence has steadily mounted that the components and conditions we believe necessary for life are common and perhaps ubiquitous in our galaxy," said Werthimer in his...

Telepathic aliens are targeting Wales in a bid to harvest our superior genetic material – that’s according to “abduction victim” Hilary Porter. While Hilary’s stories may sound outlandish or unbelievable, she dismisses those who scoff for being closed minded. The 67-year-old sought-after speaker and ufologist is claiming a stretch of road between Swansea and Cardiff is a “hotspot” of alien activity Hilary says she was so traumatised by her abduction that she was too scared to return to Wales for four decades.

Scientists are throwing cold water on yet another purported "alien" sighting by NASA's Mars rover Curiosity. Though UFO enthusiasts may beg to differ, mission team members say bright flashes of light visible in Mars photos taken by the Curiosity rover on April 2 and April 3 almost certainly have a perfectly ordinary explanation. "One possibility is that the light is the glint from a rock surface reflecting the sun. When these images were taken each day, the sun was in the same direction as the bright spot, west-northwest from the rover, and relatively low in the sky," Justin Maki, the...

After considerable research time we reached a series of conclusions that are the same obtained in the United States, and which are: this photograph is real and not a hoax; Second, that the incidence of the light in these clouds is the same as that which falls upon the object; Third, that it has its own light, and therefore a series of portholes are visible.” “This is according to our Ph.D in meteorology, and according to the clouds existing at the time during that season in the Cordillera, makes it twice the size of the National Stadium (in Chile),” CEFFAA...

Politicians don’t typically deign to respond to wild claims and accusations. But New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key has publicly responded to an Open Information Act request for “any evidence to disprove the theory that Mr John Key is in fact a David Icke style shapeshifting reptilian alien ushering humanity towards enslavement.” “Having been asked that question directly, I’ve taken the unusual step of not only seeing a doctor, but a vet, and both have confirmed that, no, I’m not a reptile,” Key told reporters with a smile. The prime minister continued: “I’m certainly not an alien. I’ve never been...

John Key: 'I'm not a reptile' He's been to a doctor and a vet just to make sure, but Prime Minister John Key is adamant he's not a shapeshifting reptilian alien. Mr Key was unusually forced to deny any previously non-declared extraterrestrial connections to reporters after an Auckland man put in an Official Information Act (OIA) request asking for proof he might be one. "To the best of my knowledge, no. Having been asked that question directly, I've taken the unusual step of not only seeing a doctor but a vet, and both have confirmed I'm not a reptile," a...

Human beings have always seen unidentified objects in the sky. From the prophet Ezekiel’s sighting of a flying wheel in 593 B.C., to the 1561 A.D. Battle over Nuremberg, Germany, to Kenneth Arnold’s “pie plate” UFOs spotted near Mt. Rainer, Washington, in June 1947, there are things above our heads that baffle us. Many of these unidentified flying objects appear to be intelligently controlled aircraft. Others, like the following sightings in California and Illinois, defy explanation.

Any pilot flying holidaymakers between Manchester and Ibiza must be prepared for outlandish sights. But perhaps nothing so apparently unworldly as this. The captain of a Thomas Cook airliner flying tourists back from the Spanish holiday island to the north of England reported a "near miss" with a "rugby ball"-shaped UFO, which passed within feet of his jet. The encounter, over Reading, Berks, was reported to the aviation authorities, who launched an investigation. But no earthly identity for the object could be established. The encounter was disclosed earlier this month by the Telegraph, following the publication of a report into...

A Saudi newspaper on Friday published a film showing what it described as an unidentified flying object (UFO) passing above the western town of Medina. Sada Arabic language daily said the film was captured by a Saudi man who happened to be near the Prophet’s Mosque around 9.00 pm local time (10.00 pm UAE time). “I was passing just near the mosque when I saw the object…I captured a film of it but I could not trace it as it split into two or three parts,” Fahd Al Harbi told the paper.

Rebooting Carl Sagan's seminal "Cosmos" miniseries three decades later is almost impossible — unless you happen to be renowned astrophysicist and science educator Neil deGrasse Tyson. For those who may have missed the original back in 1980, "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage" was a documentary series on PBS that explored the universe as well as the history of scientific discovery. Sagan's topics of discussion ranged from Japanese folklore to debunking astrology to the ultimate fate of the stars and galaxies that surround us. Now Tyson is hosting a new version of the TV series called "Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey," with the...

Spielberg’s film is rich in UFOlogical detail beyond the appearance of its aliens – from its depiction of silent but spectacular UFO manoeuvres, UFOs interfering with electrical grids and car engines, government secrecy and disinformation surrounding the subject, and even alien abduction (around a decade before such stories began to permeate the literature). The movie achieved its extraordinary UFOlogical verisimilitude thanks in large part to the advice of legendary UFO investigator Professor J. Allen Hynek. It was Hynek’s classification system for UFO sightings that gave Spielberg’s movie its unusual title (a ‘close encounter of the third kind’ referring to any...

The author, Beckley, says, "I can't say in all honesty that I really knew Jimi Hendrix, but I did see him give a number of really good performances. It was at one of those post- Woodstock concerts where I managed to wind my way backstage. Jimi Hendrix was leaning up against a wall of amps and speakers. As I walked past him, we both just kind of nodded as if we recognized each other, and to this day I can swear I heard him ask me, 'and what planet are you from pal? Jimi expressed a great interest in matters...

Strange Space Object Stumps Astronomers; Appears to be Asteroid but Has Six Comet-Like Tails Posted by Russell Westerholm Astronomers have spotted a curious comet-like spatial object with the Hubble Telescope that has six trails, causing it to look like a badminton shuttlecock, BBC News reported. The observers were lead to believe the object is an asteroid because it was spotted in an asteroid belt, but its tails are more characteristic of a comet. Asteroids also typically only appear as tiny dots of light. "We were literally dumbfounded when we saw it," Dave Jewitt, a professor from the University of California...
