A Texas high school valedictorian has revealed she is an illegal immigrant in her graduation speech. Larissa Martinez told classmates at McKinney Boyd High School that she was one of the 11million undocumented citizens living in the United States after she fled her abusive and alcoholic father in Mexico. The 18-year-old, who has been offered a full scholarship to Yale, said she decided against giving her classmates the 'traditional Hallmark version' of the speech and instead opted for the truth. The teenager told the crowd of thousands: 'Immigrants, undocumented or otherwise, are people too'. 'We are here without documentation because...

When an active shooter started targeting random people in his neighborhood, Byron Wilson was there.  He armed himself and entered the fray.  He fired at the rampage shooter and drew his fire in return. He did what he could to stop the carnage in his neighborhood.   He was shot three times, twice in the legs and once in the shoulder. He managed to crawl to a nearby business where he was able to call his wife and get help. He is fortunate to have survived.  The rampage shooter was unusual.  Most of the time the killers suicide or give...

U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions sought Saturday to convince Texas Republicans that Donald Trump is the conservative leader needed to change Washington. “The American people are not happy,” the Alabama Republican told delegates at the state GOP convention in Dallas. “They are looking for something different.” Session said Trump would properly overhaul the nation’s immigration system and secure the southern border. “He’s going to build a wall to ensure that,” Sessions said. Sessions said Trump, as president, would appoint conservative justices to the Supreme Court, reverse bad trade deals and rebuild the military. “Donald Trump believes in a strong national defense,”...

Donnie's former apartment complex A week or two ago I wrote about how a former Marine fought off an attempted home invasion.  He managed to fire three shots, and it appeared that no one was hit. As I visited a local gas station, I ran into Donnie again.  He is a large, powerful black man, he makes an impression.  We shook hands and I told him that the article had been published.  He had not seen it yet, because he is in the middle of a move.  He did not say; but I suspect it was a decision precipitated...
  • No Gun Signs in Dallas Texas

I have been staying in the Dallas, Texas, metro area for 10 days now.  I have seen very few 30.06 signs or 30.07 signs. They are good sized signs and take up a considerable amount of space, so they are hard to miss, which is part of the legislative intent. I have noticed them in three places.  The sign pictured above is at the entrance to a Dallas pediatric center.  I was assisting my daughter in taking her son there for a checkup.  As she also has a 20 day old infant, an extra hand was appreciated.  The weather...

Legal open carry of modern handguns was partially restored to Texans on January 1st, 2016.  I was visiting Texas at the time and open carried a bit, but the cool weather in January made concealed carry more practical.  I returned to Dallas in April, to visit family and a new grandchild. This morning, on my aerobic exercise run, I was running west on Rosemeade Parkway.  A black and white police SUV approached on the other side of the boulevard, but did not slow down, and continued on its way without any sign of interest in me.  It was very near...

Imagine, if you will, that your house is on fire. The conflagration has spread from the kitchen downstairs to engulf the hallway outside your bedroom upstairs. So you remain in your room, with a window open and a damp cloth over your mouth, under your bed. As you lay there terrified, eyes and throat burning from noxious fumes, a fireman bursts through the door. He sees you under the bed, a look of frenzied hope in your eyes that help has finally arrived. The fireman walks over to the window, shuts it, and then exits the room closing the door...

Last July, a Cruz-affiliated super PAC donated $500,000 to Fiorina's campaign, without explanation -- a highly unusual move that is being reexamined in light of the Enquirer's report about Cruz's indiscretions. And Fiorina made a highly publicized last-minute endorsement of Cruz in the final days before the Florida primary, helping him come in a respectable second to Trump and keeping his White House hopes alive.

In 2015, the Texas legislature passed a change in Texas statutes that prohibited government entities from posting signs to ban people who legally carried guns in areas where they are not banned by Texas law.  From the Texas statute 411.209: (a)  A state agency or a political subdivision of the state may not provide notice by a communication described by Section 30.06, Penal Code, or by any sign expressly referring to that law or to a concealed handgun license, that a license holder carrying a handgun under the authority of this subchapter is prohibited from entering or remaining on...

  • TX: Dallas Wal-Mart Has .22 LR in Stock Below 7 Cents per Round (Is it gone yet? LOL!)

    gunwatch.blogspot.com ^ | 4/17/2016 | Dean Weingarten
Wall-Mart .22 rimfire has been uncommon for three years now. When President Obama pushed for more infringements on the Second Amendment, starting in 2013, the demand for .22 rimfire skyrocketed. Instead of raising prices on the ammunition sufficiently to bring demand down to reasonable levels, manufacturers tried to keep prices stable to earn customer good will. It failed as a strategy. With the demand so high, less public entrepreneurs purchased all the .22 they could obtain, then offered it over the Internet, at gun shows, and other venues, at three to four times the price purchased. The producers stayed with...

One of the advantages of Open Carry is that it is a good excuse for social interaction.  I was in the local Dallas Wal-Mart, taking pictures of .22 ammuntion for sale, while another customer was waiting for the cabinet to be unlocked.  I asked him to take my picture.  On the shelf lined up with my chin, there are 31 50 round boxes of CCI standard velocity, for $3.47 each. My new photographer casually mentioned that he was there to buy .38 special ammunition, because he had to repel a home invasion the previous night. I asked if he...

Open carry of modern handguns has been legal for most carry permit holders in Texas for a few months now.  I was able to open carry during my visit in January. During cold weather, opportunities were limited. With a new grandchild to see, I looked forward to Texas exercise without having to conceal my personal defensive firearm.  I open carried from Arizona to Dallas in Texas.  Interactions on the road were minimal. In Van Horn, Texas, I was able to grab the last motel room in town, just about midnight.  I was carrying in an older, Israeli Fobus holser,...

Ted Cruz is having a moment to shine. The Texas senator has become the favorite to win Tuesday's primary in Wisconsin, which would be huge for his presidential campaign.
