Gofundme Established for Armed Citizen Wounded while Fighting Rampage Shooter

Byron Wilson and Son

When an active shooter started targeting random people in his neighborhood, Byron Wilson was there.  He armed himself and entered the fray.  He fired at the rampage shooter and drew his fire in return. He did what he could to stop the carnage in his neighborhood.   He was shot three times, twice in the legs and once in the shoulder. He managed to crawl to a nearby business where he was able to call his wife and get help. He is fortunate to have survived.  The rampage shooter was unusual.  Most of the time the killers suicide or give up when they receive return fire.  This one did not.  Maybe it was because of another unusual fact.  This rampage shooter was a combat veteran.

Before wounding Wilson the shooter used a pistol to kill one man, then retrieved a rifle, reportedly an AR 15. During the rampage he wounded three unarmed people, Wilson, a police officer, and hit another officer in his bullet resistant vest.  He expended about 212 rounds of ammunition, but only killed one person, the first person that he shot with the pistol.

I suspect that was partly because of Byron Wilson’s response.  At this time it is uncertain exactly when Byron confronted the rampage shooter, or how long it took the police to arrive. The situation continued for at least an hour before police killed the rampage shooter from over 100 yards away.

The gun press is the only place I’m reading that Byron Wilson was an armed citizen attempting to stop this shooting when shot by the criminal. I read an article on the Houston TV channel 2 yesterday that quoted Wilson’s wife saying that Wilson was NOT armed. I tried to find that article this morning with no success. An article about Houston PD recognizing citizen help in this incident made no mention of an armed citizen responder.

Color me dubious until there’s an article based on an interview of Wilson himself.

Further research found the article where Wilson’s wife says he was NOT armed:

There have been at least two articles where the police say Wilson was armed and engaged the shooter.

According to reports, Wilson’s wife was not at the scene.

It is good to be skeptical. I look forward to hearing Byron’s account of events as well.

Is it just me this morning, or is this article really badly written?

I don’t mean to be Clintonish, but maybe it’s possible she meant he was not armed WHEN HE WAS SHOT. Which is what that one article states. Maybe he lost his weapon during the chaos.

It’s OK. But I don’t like the non-sequiturs he makes, even if all this is true.

Another lesson, if the guy was armed, is that that does not mean you will be successful with your gun. You can still get shot and others can still be attacked.

The Silicon Valley Lefties who run GoFundMe will surely find that this violates boilerplate Terms of Service language that bars “hate speech” and shut it down.

OK to be dubious but that seems to be one article out of several and the only one that claims he was unarmed. It will come out in the end but don't expect the MSM to go out of its way to verify an armed citizen was instrumental in saving lives.

I totally agree with that statement. Sometimes it happens in spite of their best attempts otherwise.

If you are going to carry, it’s always a good idea to inform and involve your spouse in your decision.

Mrs. VanShuyten doesn’t carry, but can handle all my firearms, and is actually a steadier shooter than me.
