ORLANDO, Fla. - The tropics heated up overnight, as forecasters said that Tropical Storm Peter and Tropical Depression 17 formed. Tropical Storm Peter formed overnight over the open Atlantic, becoming the 16th named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. They said that the storm is moving towards the northwest at about 15 mph. By Sunday afternoon, it is expected to turn back toward west-northwest. An oasis of liquid methane has unexpectedly been discovered amid the tropical dunes of Saturn's moon Titan, researchers say. This lake in the otherwise dry tropics of Titan hints that subterranean channels of liquid methane might feed it from below, scientists added. Titan has clouds, rain and lakes, like Earth, but these are composed of methane rather than water. However, methane lakes were seen only at Titan's poles until now — its tropics around the equator were apparently home to dune fields instead.

Climate change is rapidly expanding the size of the world's tropical zone, threatening to bring disease and drought to heavily populated areas, an Australian study has found. Off of the East Coast of South America satellite imagery is showing a potential tropical cyclone developing. The South Atlantic Ocean is the rarest place among the world's oceans, outside of the Arctic, for Tropical Cyclone development. There have been only three recorded tropical cyclones. In 1991, one formed off of the coast of Angola in April. In 2004, there were two. The first, in January, made landfall near Salvador, Brazil.
