A stretch of Midtown Manhattan has become a “strip of despair,” where smacked-out addicts shoot up, light up and conk out at the feet of commuters and tourists, locals say. “I see a lot of things around here,” one shop owner told The Post of the so-called Eighth Avenue corridor near Penn Station, where there is a cluster of addiction clinics and homeless shelters. “Fights, drugs — oh my God — bad things. “I don’t know if they have knives or guns,” she said, explaining how people who appear to be both extremely high and severely disturbed regularly barge into...

South American “crime tourists” who exploit the US visa system to enter the country and commit burglaries have now infiltrated at least half the states in America and taken “millions of untraceable” goods, The Post has learned. The organized groups of burglars and jewel thieves, particularly from Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru, have been targeting wealthy homes across the US for decades, but their crimes have spread — and recently soared in some cities, authorities say. “They travel to cities across the nation – including in Maricopa County – and steal millions in untraceable items,” said Maricopa County Attorney Rachel...

Tourism is up in Democrat-run Los Angeles — “burglary tourism”: from South America. Well, at least someone wants to visit that *&*&^&^&. LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton told the far-left and slowly dying Los Angeles Times that “South American theft groups are not new in L.A., but they have become more active in recent months.” The Times adds: “He cautioned that it’s difficult to know for certain how many robberies can be attributed to foreign burglars, but said evidence indicates they are behind scores of break-ins.” In one area, north of the 118 freeway, he estimates there “were 94 burglaries,...

The Los Angeles Police Department has launched a task force to try to crack down on 'burglary tourists' who use the US tourism visa system to commit crimes. Cunning criminals from Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru target wealthy neighborhoods in places with relaxed criminal justice laws to conduct home burglaries - before returning home with the loot while out on bail. The troubling trend of 'lanzas internacionales' - translated to 'international thieves' - dates back at least two years across America, while the problem has also reared its ugly head in the United Kingdom. Authorities in Los Angeles announced the...

Lawmakers in Hawaii are poised to approve a $25 climate tax on tourists who visit the Aloha State in an effort to combat what they claim is an assault on the area’s natural resources. The state, which saw 9.5 million people visit last year, is recovering from the devastating wildfires in Lahaina, Maui, which killed at least 100 people and caused damages worth around $6 billion. The proposed tax will pay to protect beaches and prevent wildfires, state officials said. “It’s a very small price to pay to preserve paradise,” Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, a Democrat, told The Wall Street...

Hawaii's governor wants to impose a $25 'climate fee' on tourists, saying the funds collected would be used to protect the state's beaches and prevent wildfires. Governor Josh Green, a Democrat, last month introduced a bill that would impose the flat fee upon check-in at hotels or vacation rentals, projecting it will raise about $68 million annually. 'It's a very small price to pay to preserve paradise,' Green told the Wall Street Journal, saying the new tax would fund a state fire marshal, new fire breaks to protect vulnerable communities, and disaster insurance.

PARIS (AP) – The Eiffel Tower was closed to visitors Wednesday because of a strike over contract negotiations timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the death of its creator, Gustave Eiffel. One of the world’s most-visited sites, the Eiffel Tower is typically open 365 days a year – though it is occasionally affected by strikes – and is expected to play a central role in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Some tourists were visibly dismayed upon seeing a big sign beneath its iron façade announcing the closure in multiple languages, and apologizing for the inconvenience. Others took photos anyway,...

A shocking video showed tourists being thrown off a vehicle while trying to stop brazen thieves from speeding off with their belongings during a violent robbery in a popular San Francisco area. Dmitry Koval, a victim who posted the video to Instagram, told The Post that he and his friends were hoping to take in the scenery and get something to eat at the Fort Mason Center lot in the Marian District on September 13. The group was already across the parking lot at about 4 p.m. when they saw a black SUV park pull up next to their two...

It’s not just prissy European tennis players who can’t stand it. Every single person who visits New York City is disgusted by our unofficial new scent: marijuana. And the truth is, so are most sane New Yorkers. As The Post reported on Friday’s front page, everywhere you go in the five boroughs now reeks of pot. Expense-account restaurants such as Nobu 57 and ritzy stores like Saks Fifth Avenue have the musty whiff of a college dorm room. Puffing stoners are turning the subway’s 123 into CBD. Even the US Open in Flushing Meadows is practically an open-air drug market....

The vandals have sacked Italy again this year. Two German tourists spray painted slogans for a Munich soccer team onto the side of a 460-year-old landmark in Florence cops said — in the latest incident in which foreign troublemakers defaced an Italian cultural treasure. The exterior of the stunning riverside Vasari Corridor — which connects to the city’s famous Uffizi Galleries — suffered $10,800 in damages from the graffiti attack, Italy’s Carabinieri military police said. Police soon IDed the perpetrators as being among a group of 11 students staying at a local Airbnb — and took the vandalism so seriously...

The United States has seen the biggest ever spike in homeless people living on the streets - as preliminary figures showed a record 11 percent increase in one year. There are nearly 600,000 rough sleepers across cities and towns in America, and the jump from 2022 to 2023 so far is the highest since the government started tracking the data in 2007, according to the WSJ. Places like Oakland and San Francisco in California have become hotbeds for homelessness, as people living on the streets are like 'drug tourists' who arrive to have easy access to narcotics. The numbers keep...

From flooded cities to hellish wildfires and deadly droughts, gloomy climate reports constantly describe a world ruined by climate change. But what would this actually look like? Environmental specialist Marish Cuenca has partnered with DiscoverCars.com to create artistic depictions of tourist spots in just a quarter of a century from now. London's Big Ben looks straight out of a disaster movie, straddled by a mass of murky floodwater, while the Pyramids of Giza are home to a toxic urban landscape. Gunfire erupted between two vehicles careening through San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf area near Pier 39 Sunday evening, resulting in injury to six people, including four bystanders in the popular tourist destination, Police Chief William Scott said. A search and rescue mission was underway Monday morning for a submarine that went missing off the coast of southeast Canada on an expedition to explore the wreckage of the Titanic. Lt. Keep calm and stay away. Amsterdam has launched a new ad campaign targeting party-loving British tourists — telling them to think again. The campaign, aimed at British men aged between 18 and 35, wants to curb these “nuisance” travelers, who overindulge in the Netherlands capital where marijuana and prostitution are legal. The new ads are featured prominently whenever someone in Britain searches for terms like “stag party Amsterdam,” “cheap hotel Amsterdam” or “pub crawl Amsterdam.” The accompanying videos show the repercussions British men can face when coming to the city to get “messy.”
