A Marine who was fatally shot in his Arizona home earlier this month reportedly never fired upon the SWAT team that fired at him 70 times. Jose Guerena, a 26-year-old father of two and veteran of the Iraq war, died on May 5 in his home near Tucson, Ariz., during an anti-drug police raid. Authorities initially reported that they thought Guerena fired upon them, but an investigation revealed that no shots were fired, ABC News reports. The SWAT team descended upon Guerena's home thinking it was one of four houses associated with a drug smuggling operation. But nothing illegal was...

After the Tucson shooting and Barack Obama’s speech to the nation, polling showed a bounce in his approval ratings — unlinked, however, to any improvement on the issues. Voters appeared to remain opposed to Obama’s previous performance on jobs, the economy, and the deficit, but willing to give the President a chance to make good on his promises to reach across the aisle to newly-resurgent Republicans to chart a new course. According to the last several days of Rasmussen’s tracking poll, that window of opportunity looks like it’s closing fast:

President Barack Obama will visit Penn State University's main campus on Wednesday as part of a push for his new energy goals laid out in Tuesday's State of the Union address. Details about the president's State College, Pa., visit will come later this afternoon, but Obama is expected to tour the campus and make remarks, said Jen Psaki, a White House spokeswoman.

Was that a memorial for the victims of the Tucson shooting tragedy or a pep rally for President Obama that was held at the University of Arizona? Many were discomforted by the constant screams and cheers at a memorial service for the victims of the shooting. Adding to the inappropriate atmosphere were thousands of blue “Together We Thrive,” t-shirts and posters plastered all over the place, an obvious play on a popular Obama presidential campaign theme from 2008. Perhaps it was also the fact that the whole event was “branded” in the first place: “Together We Thrive: Tucson and America.”...

Dozens of lawmakers are getting a second dose of high school as they venture across the aisle and ask colleagues to sit with them for President Obama’s State of the Union address next week. <----> snip <----> The bipartisan gesture carries a serious tone for nearly all who have pledged to do away with the typical seating arrangement, which is not assigned but generally gets divided by party. But the humor of asking one of their fellow lawmakers to attend the event as their “date” has not escaped members.

EXCLUSIVE. It seems that Obama might have borrowed his "Together We Thrive" slogan from Kenyan Prime Minister and fellow Luo clansman Raila Odinga. Odinga used the highly similar slogan "Fairly we share, together we prosper" in his party's 2007 manifesto and his campaign literature. The slogan conveys a plan for redistributing power and wealth to the lower economic classes in Kenya. This plan is explained in detail in Odinga's literature and that of his party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). The relationship between Obama and Odinga is a close one. According to this Wikipedia page: In a January 2008 BBC...

Remember: With this adminstration- Everything is staged… Right down to the dye jobs. Ann Althouse noticed this: And what’s the first thing you notice — the difference between today and the speech he gave at the memorial? Right. Different color hair. Gray for the memorial, signifying the wise elder, the father figure. Back to dark hair to signify the vigorous young man, ready to forge ahead, solving problems, and restoring his party’s electoral fortunes. So does this count as a shovel ready job?

Did it seem odd to you that even the Fox all-star panel would have us believe that the President with the most micromanaged image in recent memory had no control or influence whatsoever over the preparation, format, and tenor etc. of the commercialized, pep rally memorial we witnessed this week, and that the White House can blame the embarrassment entirely on the University of Arizona? The entire event was about Captain Greek Columns - who gave a half hour speech – and his time to shine and show off his magical healing abilities. Togethere We Thrive” sure sounded a lot...

Adding to the political rally atmosphere instead of memorial mood for the victims of the Tucson tragedy by a deranged assassin, were the t-shirts handed out to participants as they entered the University of Arizona's arena. The apparel didn't focus on the dead/injured nor were they the idea of the University of Arizona administration but instead were emblazoned with a President Barack Obama (D) campaign theme, "Together We Thrive." And so it should come as no surprise that they were distributed by...Obama's own Organzing for America, reports Judi McLeod of the Canada Free Press. The "Together We Thrive" T-shirts that...

In an open letter just sent by the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama exhorts parents to use the Tucson tragedy as a teachable moment. It's a moment, she writes, for valuable lessons, "about the character of our country, about the values we hold dear, and about finding hope at a time when it seems far away." Here's the full text of the letter. Dear parents, Like so many Americans all across the country, Barack and I were shocked and heartbroken by the horrific act of violence committed in Arizona this past weekend. Yesterday, we had the chance to attend...

Good Friday morning. TOP TALKER – DNC BRAINSTORMS 2012 WITH BUNDLERS -- Jeanne Cummings: “Bracing for a half-billion-dollar onslaught of outside GOP cash in 2012, President Obama’s advisers are quietly working to bring back together the major donor base that produced a record-breaking fundraising haul in his first run for president. In the past few months, Democratic National Committee aides have contacted several of Obama’s earliest financial backers to brainstorm about when and where to host the first money-raising events. Several big donors said they expect the Obama 2012 operation to open its doors this spring, with a string of...

KUHNER: Obama's Tucson degradation President turned memorial program into political rally By Jeffrey T. Kuhner The Washington Times Thursday, January 13, 2011 President Obama is cynically exploiting the tragic shooting in Tucson for political gain. His memorial address Wednesday night was a surreal spectacle in narcissistic self-congratulation. It dishonored the victims... Instead of being a solemn and serious event, the memorial resembled a pro-Obama pep rally. The president of Arizona University praised Mr. Obama for his "visionary" and "courageous" leadership.... students regularly cheered, clapped, whistled and hollered. All the while, the president basked in his newfound glory.... Mr. Obama lectured...

"Acts of monstrous criminality stand on their own," Sarah Palin said. "Especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence that they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible." When former Alaska Governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin uttered the above words on Wednesday, the news media and the left -- often difficult to differentiate from one another -- again pounced on her with snippy commentary and accusations that her past pronouncements contributed to the otherwise senseless slaughter in Arizona last Saturday. "If anything...

US First Lady Michelle Obama on Thursday asked American parents to talk to their children about the Arizona shooting that killed six people, including a nine-year-old girl, and use the event to teach them value of tolerance. Michelle, who joined her husband US President Barack Obama at a memorial service for the victims, issued an open letter to parents. "We can teach them the value of tolerance -- the practice of assuming the best, rather than the worst, about those around us. We can teach them to give others the benefit of the doubt, particularly those with whom they Disagree,"...

Many Americans were startled to see University of Arizona students distributing t-shirts at the memorial service in Tucson yesterday. On the front of the shirts, "Together We Thrive" was printed, along with a trendy logo. University spokeswoman Jennifer Fitzenberger told FoxNation.com "it was our idea to do the t-shirts."
