A 15-year-old girl is dead and a 16-year-old boy is in guarded condition after a shooting shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening (Dec. 22) in Harvey. The victim who died was identified as Shamairie Joseph of Harvey, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office news release. Responding officers found Joseph suffering a gunshot wound to the chest in the 1600 block of Apache Drive, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. Police located, Sunday, 15-year-old Nofer Ben-Chamou of Lod, in a village of the Arab Triangle, northeast of Tel Aviv. She had been missing for weeks after getting involved with Arab boys. Member of Knesset Michael Ben-Ari (National Union) and members of the Lehava organization, which helps families deal with such situations, were in constant contact with the family during the time Nofer was missing. They joined the family at the police station where Nofer was brought with instructions on how to deal with her rehabilitation. The 17-year old girl from Shafter had been reported missing, so the deputy was going to take her home. But, he was attacked by her boyfriend,19-year old Manuel Sanchez. According to the report, Sanchez, who's an active marine stationed in San Diego, managed to wrestle away the deputy's gun, but no shots were fired.

(AP) - A deaf, mute, illiterate Salvadoran charged with capital murder in the slaying of a teenage girl was incompetent to stand trial because he has practically no communication skills, a judge ruled. Oswaldo Martinez, a 33-year-old illegal immigrant, was ordered Thursday to receive language training at a state mental hospital to make him competent to stand trial in the rape and murder of 16-year-old Brittany Binger. A former North Myrtle Beach High School teacher who had a sexual relationship with a student for about a year declared his love for the girl Tuesday just before he was sentenced to six years in prison for criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Stephen George Zeltman told the court: "She's an angel. My actions hurt my angel."
