NEW YORK--You don't need a rich imagination to picture the scene. In the Alaska governor's mansion, a pair of parents and their visibly pregnant teenage daughter sit on a dead bear sprawled across a couch they had to have shipped because there isn't an Ethan Allen in Anchorage. On a second sofa, on the opposite side of a glass coffee table festooned by the exoskeleton of a giant crab, fidget a second set of parents and their son, a.k.a. The Extremely Nervous Boyfriend. Heads of dead animals line the walls.

...Syndicated cartoonist Ted Rall is no stranger to controversy. After drawing a cartoon critical of some 9/11 widows capitalizing on their husbands' deaths, about 40 firefighters with axes from the local firehouse gathered outside Rall's Upper West Side apartment, screaming and hollering. It took a friend showing up to take pictures of the public servants to get them to disperse. This unnerved Rall, because if the people who are supposed to be protecting you end up attacking you, where else can you go for protection? "Firefighters are psychotic," Rall said. "They don't work hard, and every five years or so...

NEW YORK--Five years after the Republicans got us into war against Iraq, Democrats want to double down on a war that's even more unjustifiable and unwinnable--the one against Afghanistan. By any measure, U.S. troops and their NATO allies are getting their asses kicked in the country that Reagan's CIA station chief for Pakistan called "the graveyard of empires." Afghanistan currently produces a record 93 percent of the world's opium. Suicide bombers are killing more U.S.-aligned troops than ever. Stonings are back. The Taliban and their allies, "defeated" in 2001, control most of the country--and may recapture the capital of Kabul...

I don't normally follow Ted Rall's work. But when J.M., a member of our military serving in Iraq, wrote NB about Rall's recent column and cartoon, I had a look. I'd say our soldier was being restrained in describing Rall's work as "particularly offensive." I'm displaying one panel from his cartoon of October 22nd. You can view the whole of it here. As you'll note, the point is to celebrate the death of our soldiers, since they are "idiots" whose removal from the gene pool causes the average IQ back home to soar. His column of October 23rd, "HEY, SOLDIERS:...

In a recent article with Editor & Publisher, conservative author Ann Coulter, who often jokes about the deaths of certain liberals, now is having the same done to her. As a joke, Rall posted a fake obituary on his own blog that stated, “Coulter died from injuries sustained on September 11, 2006, when the historic replica of a dirigible in which she was riding exploded over the Hudson River near Ground Zero in lower Manhattan," wrote Rall. "Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board believe that Coulter initiated the accident when she fired a pistol as she stormed the airship's...

For several days, your Radio Equalizer has been intrigued by a conversation that took place between Bill O'Reilly and syndicated radio talker Laura Ingraham on July 18th's O'Reilly Factor. When asked whether so- called "smear websites" serve to intimidate the opposition by bullying them right off the 'net, Ingraham took issue with O'Reilly, maintaining that a strong backbone is needed to enter the political fray. Today, however, a redesigned hate site truly seems to bolster O'Reilly's case. More on that in a moment.

Facing Collapse, Palestinians Turn to America's Enemies NEW YORK--Abandon the tactic of terrorism and work within the system, the United States and its Western allies have long urged armed resistance groups. Lay down your weapons and pick up a megaphone. Campaign for public office and, if the people you claim to represent agree with your ideas, you'll win power peacefully. Then, whether or not they share your values, the world will recognize your movement as legitimate and will treat you accordingly. In the Muslim world, the focus of American-led democratization efforts since 9/11, Republican neoconservatives have repeatedly used a Sunni...

While no official lawsuit has been filed, Ted has stopped his pledge drive to raise money for this libel/slander suit against Ann Coulter saying that he now has enough. The proposed libel/slander suit is the result of comments she made that Ted had entered the Iranian Holocaust Cartoon contest - a claim he denies. He’s now meeting with lawyers on the details of such a suit. "Thanks to hundreds of generous pledgers we now have enough money committed to launching a slander and libel suit against Coulter for her remarks falsely claiming that I had entered Iran’s Holocaust cartoon contest."

A controversial contest for cartoons of the Holocaust was launched in Iran on Monday in a tit-for-tat move over the caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed that have enflamed Muslims worldwide. The first entry was said to be from renowned Australian cartoonist Michael Leunig, according to the Website organizing the competition with Iran's biggest selling newspaper Hamshahri, triggering outrage in the United States and Germany in particular. "As a show of solidarity with the Muslim world, and an exercise in free speech, I would like to submit a cartoon to you on the theme of the Holocaust," Leunig was quoted as...

NEW YORK Columnist Ann Coulter made a provocative remark Friday about "Doonesbury" creator Garry Trudeau and editorial cartoonist Ted Rall. Trudeau is shrugging it off, but Rall is considering a lawsuit. Coulter reportedly said Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C.: "Iran is soliciting cartoons on the Holocaust. So far, only Ted Rall, Garry Trudeau, and The New York Times have made submissions." Giving her remark another twist is the fact that the conservative Coulter has the same distributor -- Universal Press Syndicate -- as the liberal Rall and Trudeau. When asked Monday if he wanted to...

In an especially contentious exchange on this evening's Hannity and Colmes (Friday February 3, 2006), cantankerous cartoonist Ted Rall, a guest on the program, unbelievably declared, "We do not owe our liberties to the military." The topic was the recent Washington Post cartoon by Tom Toles that has outraged many. The cartoon prompted a letter to the editor (linked at Michelle Malkin) from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who tagged the the work as "beyond tasteless." Needless to say, Rall (who himself has created bigoted trash in the past) defended Toles' cruel piece. Here's the relevant exchange (audiotape on file,...

Ted Rall has struck again - this time with words instead of his little cartoons. In his Dec. 6, 2005 editorial, "We're Looking for a Few Good Refuseniks", Rall attacks the US military and veterans again. Rall credits the "unelected" President Bush for the military turning its back on its once "honorable calling". Rall then blames the US soldiers for "torturing, maiming and murdering POWs, robbing and subjecting civilians to collective punishment, dropping white phosphorus and depleted uranium bombs on civilian targets." Pooh-poohing the "they are just following orders" excuse, Rall reminds his readers that the illegal, immoral and unjust...

Anti-American left wing lunatic Ted Rall was not content with depicting the US military as rapists, pedophiles and idiots. In his latest piece of artwork, Rall portrays Iraq War Veterans as torturers and domestic abusers. The cartoon, Sex Lives of Iraq War Vets, published on November 26, 2005, shows the veterans torturing their girlfriends and the girlfriend's parents Abu-Ghraib style. The final frame shows a vet dropping bombs on his girlfriend's home in response to a break-up. This latest attempt to undermine our military comes on the heels of Rall's cartoon depicting US soliders in Iraq as rapists and pedophiles.Ted...

IT'S OFFICIAL: 2005 WILL BE the newspaper industry's worst year since the last ad industry recession. And things aren't looking much better for next year either, according to a top Wall Street firm's report on newspaper publishing. "Sadly, 2005 is shaping up as the industry's worst year from a revenue growth perspective since the recession impacted 2001-2002 period," says the report from Goldman Sachs, adding a warning that meaningful growth in 2006 is "very unlikely."

Ted Rall has offered a "retraction" of his Aug. 4 cartoon that cited a 9,000 figure -- rather than the commonly used 1,800-plus -- for the number of American soldiers who have died in the Iraq war. On Tuesday, Rall wrote in his blog: "I read a story that came off as possible, sourced it using previously reliable informants, and ended up doing a cartoon that I wouldn't have done had I known then what I know now. So this is a retraction of [the] cartoon. Did 9,000-plus soldiers get killed in Iraq? Maybe, maybe not. But as a cartoonist...

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY, called Sunday for Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove to personally deny leaking the name of a CIA official. Saturday, Rove's lawyer, Robert Luskin told The Washington Post Rove had not disclosed the name of Valerie Plame to Newsweek in a 2003 interview. Sunday, Schumer, who led the push for a Congressional inquiry into the leak, issued a challenge for Rove to speak for himself. "We've heard it from his lawyer, but it would be nice to hear it directly from Mr. Rove that he didn't leak the identity of Valerie Plame, and that...

NEW YORK--And it came to pass that Republican Jesus met with His advisers, strategists and corporate cronies. He took them and withdrew apart to a deserted city called Bethesda. But the multitudes followed Him nonetheless. So Republican Jesus asked His cronies to build Him a great stadium where He could welcome members of the multitudes able to pay Him an admission fee and purchase vast quantities of licensed merchandise at exorbitant prices. He welcomed these people and sent off those who needed medical attention to a land called Canada. The light of the day began to wane, so His toadies...

Sometimes Right-Wing Doesn't Mean Conservative NEW YORK--On the surface, the main political story appears to be "Clueless Democratic Party Beaten to Pulp by Vibrant if Unscrupulous Republicans." But the bigger, weirder story is that liberals have won the culture wars--and have corrupted the GOP with the worst aspects of their beliefs. Incredibly, the hard-right Bush Administration has turned out to be composed of old-fashioned tax-and-spend, welfare-coddling, big-government liberals. Before the 1980s the Republican base was conservatives who, as the word's etymology suggests, defended the status quo. Because most conservatives were wealthy (or at least comfortable enough to believe they might...

The WP pulled his stuff a couple of weeks ago. I don't want any of my money going in his pocket and don't plan to use any media outlet that carries him. Rall is a special case-if "seditious" can't be used to describe his writing the term is without meaning. His treatment of the Pat Tillman episode makes Michael Moore like like Sean Hannity. Why can't we do something about this scumbag? http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=127&ncid=742&e=8&u=/ucru/20041208/cm_ucru/herogivesupeverythingtodefendhiscountry

Former president Bill Clinton -- during his last term in office -- urged Americans to have "a candid conversation on the state of race relations." OK. ABC's "Monday Night Football," in a silly attempt at cross-promotion, opened with a sexually suggestive skit involving "Desperate Housewives'" Nicollette Sheridan and Philadelphia Eagles' Terrell Owens. In the skit, Owens, in full football gear, heads out to play, only to be seduced in the empty locker room by a towel-clad Sheridan. When Sheridan drops the towel, Owens says, "Aw hell, the team's going to have to win without me," and she jumps into Owens'...

Ted Rall says D.C. paper depriving readers while left under attack. The Washington Post's online edition has dropped the controversial political cartoons of Ted Rall, a self-described liberal who has been criticized many times over the past year for racist and insensitive attacks on conservatives. Rall told Editor & Publisher he believes the Universal Features Syndicate cartoon was let go because of Rall's Nov. 4 offering depicting a drooling, mentally handicapped student taking over a classroom. "The idea was to draw an analogy to the electorate -- in essence, the idiots are now running the country," he told the industry...

NEW YORK WashingtonPost.com is no longer running the cartoons of hard-hitting liberal Ted Rall. Rall said he thinks the site dropped his work because of a Nov. 4 cartoon he did showing a drooling, mentally handicapped student taking over a classroom. "The idea was to draw an analogy to the electorate -- in essence, the idiots are now running the country," he told E&P. "That cartoon certainly drew a significant amount of negative comment from our users," said WashingtonPost.com Executive Editor Doug Feaver when contacted by E&P. But he added that the decision to drop Rall was a "cumulative" one...

So... quick, impromptu query for my fellow FReepers, just for the fun of it. Liberal bomb thrower Ted Rall has another hit piece on Bush. As usual, Rall lies, distorts and proselytizes. Let's look at his flawed arguments one by one. 1. He stole the 2000 election. Voting to "reelect" an illegitimate commander-in-chief who seized power by judicial coup d'état is a tacit endorsement of how he got into the White House in the first place. How the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Bush v. Gore is irrelevant. As a federal court, the five runaway Supreme Court justices had no right to agree to hear the case. Under our system of government, elections--and election...

Afew things I need to get off my mind: Tom Cruise will present a tribute to Pat Tillman during the ESPY Awards. You remember Tillman, who quit the NFL to join the Army Rangers and was killed in Afghanistan earlier this year. You remember Cruise, who in lieu of a box-office hit will happily reach millions of homes via ESPN. Words I expect Cruise to use during the Tillman tribute: hero, courage, warrior. Sentiments I don't expect Cruise to express during the Tillman tribute: unjust war, his poor widow, what was he thinking? Remind me not to watch. ***

Cartoonist Ted Rall struck again early last week, this time publicly stating that Ronald Reagan is currently in Hell “turning crispy brown right about now.” Rall defended his repugnant treatment of the fallen national hero, saying, “Reagan was a public figure and he was an idiot.” Rall then re-affirmed, “If there is a hell, this guy is in it.” Rall still had enough invective left over to fill his next syndicated column, entitled “Reagan’s Shameful Legacy.” Attempting to deflect the predictable (and massive) public backlash, Rall has tried to paint himself as a moderate, protesting, “I’m not a knee-jerk left-wing...

Senator McCain said this on Hannity and Colmes: Hannity: "Senator McCain, do you believe that you are a Reagan Conservative?" McCain: Absolutely. I mean I think we can talk about policy, but I think I share his vision for a great America. Hannity: Could you explain that a little more? McCain: Sure. American's haven't sacraficed anything in this war. I think its time that they do some sacraficing. Roll back the tax cuts to the rich, cut defense spending..and.....increase.. Hannity: Senator I have to cut you off because we have to go.

It didn't take long for Ted Rall to weigh in with a predictably boneheaded comment on the beheading of Nicholas Berg. Rall quotes -- and mocks -- Bush Administration pronouncements on the Abu Ghraib scandal and the beheading of Berg. Rall then argues that if the beheading says anything about the true nature of the terrorists, then the Abu Ghraib scandal says something about the true nature of the American people. In Rall's twisted view, any contrary opinion reflects "cognitive dissonance." Here is the beginning of Rall's post: Cognitive Dissonance "I share a deep disgust that those prisoners were treated...

Editorial cartoonist Ted Rall recently made the news for penning yet another crass cartoon, this one denigrating Pat Tillman, the football star turned soldier recently killed in Afghanistan. Rall painted Tillman as a racist, bloodthirsty idiot who was just another cog in the "El Busho" war machine. MSNBC.com decided to pull the cartoon because it "did not meet MSNBC.com standards of fairness and taste." Blogger Andrew Sullivan called for a protest campaign against Rall and yesterday offered this enlightening Rall quote: "The word 'hero' has been bandied about a lot to refer to anyone killed in Afghanistan or Iraq....

Just wondering aloud. I've seen many libs in news groups using out-of-context snippets of supposed "hate speech" from religious right figures or Anne Coulter. They always resort to this to fire up the troops, discredit authority or censor criticism. There should be a repository of all the outrageous things said by feminuts, eco-nuts, commies, mainstream "comedians" and all those "respectable journalists" to counter the denial of "bias" and the one-sided "hate speech" ploy. I can think of more than a few example, though I don't have the exact refs.

Item did not meet MSNBC standards of fairness and taste MSNBC.com pulled a cartoon by syndicated political cartoonist Ted Rall on Monday. Tillman was killed last month in Afghanistan.

Disturbed cartoonist Ted Rall, undoubtedly eager to follow up his hilarious Terror Widows comic with more laughs served up at the expense of people wracked with grief, produces another gem in the April issue of Gear magazine. Mr. Rall didn't really need to do more to convince us that he hates American culture and sees only hypocrisy and opportunism in our grief and patriotism, but maybe he wanted to make extra sure that we knew. This one portrays the New York firefighters as money-grubbing scum, and ridicules the generosity of their supporters:
