~ FReeper mylife has gone Home ~~ November 26, 2023 ~ Abide With Me Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me. Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word, But as Thou dwell'st with Thy disciples, Lord, Familiar, condescending, patient, free. Come not...

It's time for the fourteenth annual TCMS!

It's that time of year again . . . Once again I fought the idea of having the shoot in the same place as the previous year. But after some convincing talk from humblegunner, I agreed that he was right and the TCMS has found a home. The shoot will be on September 28 at https://www.hicksvillegunrange.com/We have reserved Cherokee Village, http://cherokeevillageresort.com/ from September 26th ~ 29th. Please make your reservations by June 30th. As usual there will be lots of food, fun, drinks, Scrabble and darts!

The 13th TCMS has begun! Stay tuned for comments and pictures . . .

TCMS tradition was broken last year for two very good reasons. That, by default, started a new tradition ~ holding the shoot in the same location! I only fought a little bit to go back to original idea of not going to the same range in consecutive years. The wise ole planning committee feels that the TCMS has found its home. The TXMS VIII shoot will be held at Hicksville Gun Range, in Gatesville, TX on October 6th, starting at 10:00 a.m. Where once again we can enjoy the range dogs, the owners and lunch provided by our own cook,...

The fun has begun! Tonight's dinner is BBQ ribs & chicken, potato salad and cole slaw. There will dart games, Scrabble and lots of BS'ing and laughter. Tomorrow the shooting starts at 10:00 at Hicksville Range in Gatesville. Eaker's ashes will be blown into the Heavens at 11:00. If things follow the same pattern as every other shoot, we'll eat lunch around 1:00. Looking forward to seeing all that show up, will miss those can't make it.

For the first time in 12 years I am breaking two traditions for the TCMS. Each year the shoot is held at different locations; although some ranges were visited two or more times, it has never happened in consecutive years. But because my life has been a bit wonky lately I just don’t have the energy for the research and recon. The other broken tradition is the name change. This year we will also honor my co-cat herder, NYTexan, and my beloved husband, Eaker; both of these fine men passed away within days of each other this past March. Therefore,...

The planning stages for TCMS XI are in the works. At this point the plan is to hold the event in October 2016. (Yes, I know that is a looonnnggg way away!) The range we are considering is Hiciksville Range, in Gatesville. The closest lodging we could find is in Whitney. We have already had one recon trip, which was not very productive due to heavy rains. The entire recon crew checked out one of the places we are considering staying. The majority of us fell in love with the place, even though it was a gloomy weekend. It made...

Today we head to the range to honor TexasCowboy's love of the 2nd Amendment by shooting lots of guns & eating BBQ on the range. Friday was a day of leisure, shopping, getting items stuck in a tree, eating yummy food and cursing a stupid fishing poles. Fun times! Pictures will be posted at some point ~ the wifi is iffy here, so be patient.

Nine years ago Eaker & I were talking about what a wonderful person TexasCowboy was and what poopheads his children were. We both agreed that it would be a damn shame to let the memory of him lapse. Three or four times a year TexasCowboy would host shoots at various ranges across Texas. After everyone was finished shooting, he would then serve up a yummy lunch. It was while Eaker & I were talking that I came up with the (rare brilliant) idea of continuing what he started, but to do this in his memory. This is how the TexasCowboy...

Hi Everyone! I know this is really early, but I thought this would give everyone a chance to make plans & start saving pennies for the trip. The 2008 shoot will be held May 3rd, at Schwenkes Gun Range (4407 FM 1069) in Aransas Pass, Texas (35 miles SE of Corpus Christi. The cost will be $15.00 per person. Schwenkes is a private gun range, that charges its members $50.00/year. I met with Mr. Schwenkes today, he said since “I seem like a nice lady”, he would allow us to use his range. He also said if I would give...

It is time to again start planning the Memorial Shoot in honor of TexasCowboy. This year the event will be held April 14th at The Bullet Hole Shooting Range in San Antonio. Starting at 11:00 a.m. This is their web page - http://www.bullethole.com/ (I am to tired and lazy to do the thingie where you can click on the link). Range fees are $10.50. This year each person will pay the fee to the range. After we finish shooting we will BBQ dead animals. (Sorry guys, no Kick Ass Enchilada's this go round). Folks need to holler about what food...

A date and cabin locations have finally been chosen. This year’s shoot will be October 18th. Once again it will be held in Seagoville, (5 miles south of Route 175 or 3.5 miles NE of I-45 (exit 270) on S. Belt Line Road). The plan at this time is to meet at Cotton Gin in Crandle for breakfast at 9:00 a.m., BUT they are currently closed due to a fire. Hopefully they will be reopened by October. If not, Plan B will be put in place. After breakfast we will all head to the range. A delicious lunch will be...
