The confirmation hearing for President Trump’s controversial nominee to lead the Pentagon's policy shop was canceled l ess than an hour before it was set to begin on Thursday. Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said the hearing was canceled because "many" Democrats and Republicans "didn’t know enough about Anthony Tata to consider him for a very significant position at this time." “We didn’t get the required documentation in time; some documents, which we normally get before a hearing, didn’t arrive until yesterday," Inhofe said in a statement released about 15 minutes before the hearing had been scheduled...

A former brigadier general revealed on Fox News Monday some new information about the White House's role in U.S. Central Command's skewing of intelligence to downplay the threats of ISIS and Al Qaeda. Last week, a House Republican task force concluded in a 15-page report that U.S. military leaders altered intelligence reports "to paint a rosier picture" of the U.S.-led fight against ISIS than intelligence analysts believed was warranted. The report blamed “structural and management changes” at the intelligence directorate for the distortions, but stopped short of explaining WHY the changes were made. According to Defense News, "the problems followed...

The OPEC 2015 World Oil Outlook came out a few days ago. They basically produce two outlooks, a medium term outlook to 2020 and a long term outlook to 2040. I found their medium term outlook pessimistic in some cases too optimistic in others. But I found their long term outlook to be wildly optimistic… in most cases. In all cases below I chart crude when it is available and “liquids” only when no other option is available. The data is in million barrels per day.

Land Rover just launched their Chinese-built Evoque at the Guangzhou Auto Show, while a few feet away, copycat LandWind X7 offered the same design at quarter of the price. AWKWARD!! This Is Not A Range Rover Evoque - But rather its Chinese cousin, the Landwind X7 Understandably, JLR is about to file a complaint to Chinese officials now regarding IP theft. I say good luck with that, but one can sure feel bad for Jaguar Land Rover. They put their money in a joint venture with Chinese manufacturer Chery to start the Evoque's local production, and this is what they...

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- After a bit of confusion in the courtroom Tuesday morning, jurors returned the toughest verdict they could against day care owner Jessica Tata -- guilty of murder. But their work is not done. Now they must decide how long Tata should be in jail. "We, the jury, find the defendant, Jessica Tata, guilty of murder," the jury foreman read. Tata showed no emotion as the verdict was read. "She's never lost sight of the real victims, the real people who we have concern for are the families that lost their children," said defense attorney Mike DeGeurin. Tata...

Tata CEO Ratan Tata has apparently decided to sell the Tata Nano minicar in the United States, even as Tata lacks though proper sales channel. In an interview with Automotive News, the company namesake said that a redesigned Nano, with features like traction control, a more powerful engine and power steering, could go on sale at a price below $10,000 in three years time. But a distribution channel is still a giant question mark, with Tata saying ”We have to give a lot of thought to how we would distribute the car,” and little else. Tata’s remarks came at the...

Jessica Rene Tata’s 6,500-mile fugitive odyssey came to an end early Tuesday morning when the handcuffed daycare owner who fled to Nigeria after a fire killed four children under her watch was escorted into the Harris County Jail. The 22-year-old Houston woman arrived about 1:15 a.m. in a convoy of Harris County sheriff’s patrol cars and unmarked sport utility vehicles. Tata, who was wearing a body armor vest, said nothing as she was taken into the jail in the middle of a crowd of investigators with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force. A woman who fled to Nigeria after a fire at her west Houston day care killed four children last month has surrendered to authorities, her brother said Saturday. Jessica Tata faces 14 charges, including four counts of manslaughter, in connection with the Feb. 24 blaze at Jackie's Child Care. Officials have said that Tata, 22, left seven children unattended and oil cooking on the stove while she shopped at Target. She fled to Nigeria before being charged. About two dozen women took a walk down Congress Street topless Saturday, attracting a large crowd as they tried to preach that partial female nudity is not worthy of attracting a crowd. The point of the march was that a topless woman out in public should attract no more attention than a man walking around without a shirt on, said Ty MacDowell, 20, of Westbrook, who organized Saturday's event and promoted it on Facebook. But as the event got under way in Longfellow Square, the marchers were soon outnumbered by scores of onlookers -- mostly young men eagerly snapping...

When it was launched less than a year ago, the $2,500 Tata Nano was promoted as a safe, ultra-cheap car for poor Indians, an alternative to the motorbikes that zoom precariously around the country. New questions about the safety of the pint-sized auto are being raised, however, after one of them burst into flames Sunday as it was being driven home from the showroom. Software engineer Satish Sawant, his wife and 5-year-old son escaped from the silver Tata Nano — which still bore a celebratory garland of marigolds on the front hood — before the tiny car was engulfed by...

Jaguar Land Rover turned in a profit of £55m in the last three months of 2009 after a loss of £60m in the previous quarter. The company's owner, India's Tata Motors, said the bounce back was thanks to stronger market conditions. It added that its range of new models had helped its performance. Its sales jumped 68% from a year earlier to more than 165,000 models, with most of the growth coming Russia, Europe, North America and China. Coming closures Tata, which bought the business from Ford in 2008, said cost-cutting also boosted results and it plans to make further...

The head of the UN's climate change panel - Dr Rajendra Pachauri - is accused of making a fortune from his links with 'carbon trading' companies, Christopher Booker and Richard North write. No one in the world exercised more influence on the events leading up to the Copenhagen conference on global warming than Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and mastermind of its latest report in 2007. Although Dr Pachauri is often presented as a scientist (he was even once described by the BBC as “the world’s top climate scientist”), as a former...

The world’s cheapest car is about to get greener and sportier. A hybrid version of the tiny Tata Nano has been confirmed by Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Motors, according to South Korea’s Maeil Business Newspaper. The current gasoline-powered Nano — on sale in India since April — is hardly a gas guzzler. Powered by a tiny, 35-horsepower 2-cylinder gas engine, the Nano is capable of approximately 50 miles per gallon. A greener variant of this engine (or the larger 3-cylinder motor planned for export markets) could make the Nano the world’s cheapest hybrid.

MUMBAI (AFP) – The world's cheapest car, the Tata Nano, hit the streets on Friday, as the first customer got the keys to a vehicle that its makers hope will transform travel for millions of Indians. Ashok Raghunath Vichare took delivery of a lunar silver Nano LX model, one of three cars handed over in person by Tata Motors boss Ratan Tata at a city dealership. The 59-year-old customs official from Mumbai said only that he was "very happy" to have got his hands on the car, as he was mobbed by cameras and press photographers. His family, who accompanied...
