The Patriots used underinflated footballs on Sunday night. The next question is how did it happen? According to a National Football League letter about the investigation into the controversy that was shared with the Globe, the Patriots were informed that the league’s initial findings indicated that the game balls did not meet specifications. The league inspected each of the Patriots’ 12 game balls twice at halftime, using different pressure gauges, and found footballs that were not properly inflated. According to ESPN, 11 of the 12 game balls were found to be underinflated by about 2 pounds each. The NFL specifications...

New england is in the lead, will they prevail to the end of the game. This is for the football fans to vent how the game is going. It is in fun, rout for your team of choice and if they win or lose have some fun with it. On Tuesday we have to suffer through yet another State of the Union. Okay I do not have to suffer through because I will be on the road traveling to Lower Michigan for a medical appointment! Let's have some fun with the football game.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Super Bowl 50 is coming to Levi's Stadium in 2016. On Monday, the NFL and the Super Bowl Committee made a historic announcement about who will be eligible to bid on contracts. "I think it's about time. I'm so excited," said Audry deLucia, who with her wife Fran, owns Ellaprint, a company that offers a wide range of marketing and promotional materials. They're hoping to make history as part of Super Bowl 50. "It's something that's a no brainer for San Francisco and the entire Bay Area to include the LGBT when it comes to opportunities...
  • Mika Perpetuates Myth of Super Bowl Spike in Domestic Violence

What's next, Mika? Giant alligators in the sewers of New York City? On today's Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski perpetuated the hoary urban legend that domestic violence spikes on Super Bowl Sunday. Brzezinski's blunder came in the context of the panel's discussion of the NFL's domestic violence mess. Arguing that football is a violent game and that "there's a connection" with what happens at home, Mika continued, "domestic violence on Super Bowl Sunday. We've seen the numbers. Why is that?" Actually, Brzezinski has apparently not seen the numbers, since that myth has been thoroughly debunked, often by organizations fighting domestic violence,...

Beyonce, Bruno Mars… 'Weird Al' Yankovic? If more than 67,000 petition signers have their way, the parody singer will join the list of artists who have performed at the Super Bowl. The petition, started by Ed Ball of Washington State, was created on Change.org and is addressed to the NFL. “For decades Weird Al has entertained fans, young and old, with his popular clever parodies and unique sense of humor,” Ball’s petition reads. “Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show... would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and...

t's not like a player would ever forget winning the Super Bowl, but it's nice to have a giant diamond ring there to remind you. Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen revealed his team's ring. Unlike a lot of Super Bowl rings, it's kind of cool, or at least not overdone and as tacky as some of them are.
  • NFL ditching Roman numerals for Super Bowl 50

If you don't know your Roman numerals, the Super Bowl can be a confusing time. However, no one will be confused when Super Bowl L kicks off after the 2015 season because for one year only, the NFL will be making the switch from Roman numerals to standard numbers. That's right: Super Bowl L will be Super Bowl 50. The first-regular numbered Super Bowl will air on Feb. 7, 2016 on CBS.
  • Geraldo Attacks O’Reilly over Contentious Obama Interview: You ‘Minimized’ the President!

Geraldo Rivera took on Bill O’Reilly Friday night over whether O’Reilly was disrespectful to President Obama in their big Super Bowl interview. Rivera gave O’Reilly some benefit of the doubt, but other than that thought O’Reilly was a bit too confrontational and didn’t give Obama the kind of respect a president normally deserves. Rivera argued it was less like an interview and more like a meeting of the minds with the “President of Most of the White Guys of America” (O’Reilly) against the president of the rest of the country, and told O’Reilly that it was out of line for...
  • What That Coca-Cola Ad Tells Us About Americanism

If I asked you to describe a proponent of something called “Americanism,” what would you say? My guess is that your mind might jump to a jingoistic Southerner with a rifle, a pick-up truck, and a high school education, who speaks fluent ‘merican. Readers familiar with the work of David Gelernter might talk about a religious creed that views America as a new promised land and Americans as a new chosen people, committed to ideals such as liberty, equality, and democracy. But at the Super Bowl earlier this week, Coca-Cola asked us to consider a different vision of Americanism, one...

Two ads are seared into my memory from childhood. One is by Keep America Beautiful for Earth Day in 1970. The commercial portrayed what appeared to be an American Indian crying over the pollution that littered our country. Later, we find out the actor was neither an Indian nor was he crying. The second is the Coca-Cola ad, released in 1971, that showed people holding hands and singing, "I'd like to teach the world to sing." Not only did I love the commercials, but as a child, I picked up garbage from the roadsides of my town on Earth Day...

Sixteen juveniles forced into working as prostitutes for the Super Bowl were rescued in the New York City area by the FBI in the weeks before the game, the agency said Tuesday. Officials said the children, some of whom had been reported missing by their families, ranged in age from 13 to 17. Six were found in Newark, N.J., six in New York City and four in New Haven, Conn. One of the minors, a 17-year-old girl, had spent the past two years with her pimp, said Michael Osborn, chief of the Violent Crimes Against Children unit at the FBI....

...cracked Peyton Manning's hand signal code during the Super Bowl so they were able to predict every play The Seattle Seahawks have revealed that a good part of their defensive strategy at the Super Bowl came from the fact that they were able to decode Peyton Manning's hand signals on the field. Controversial corner back Richard Sherman said that he and his fellow defenders cracked the code that the Denver Broncos quarterback was using, meaning that they knew exactly what to expect for each play. 'We knew what route concepts they liked on different downs, so we jumped all the...

Football. Olympics. The mere terms reflect pride, passion and the American way. Football is one of the best pastimes in our country, and its crescendo reached its zenith this past Sunday with the Super Bowl. Congratulations to the NFL champions, the Seattle Seahawks. There are few events better than sitting (and standing) with family and friends cheering on your favorite team in that ultimate competition. And it's a pretty good excuse for munching the best of American grub as you do! Also, the Winter Olympics are about to begin -- Friday, Feb. 7, in Sochi, Russia -- so I thought...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)A MSNBC political panel was less than enthused by Bill O’Reilly’s tough interview with President Barack Obama on Sunday, claiming the questions were irrelevant and that O’Reilly himself “lives on another planet.” The cable network’s Craig Melvin spoke with Republican strategist Susan del Percio and MSNBC contributors Zerlina Maxwell and Josh Barro about the testy interview, which seemed at times to frustrate the president. MELVIN: Susan, what did we learn that was new yesterday evening? DEL PERCIO: Nothing! I actually think they had a no-news pact going on in that interview. MELVIN: It seemed at times like a wasted opportunity!...

As millions of Americans were doing on Sunday, I was preparing to watch the Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos. I had hoped to be able to tune out politics for a single day, but, alas, this was not the case. Bill O'Reilly scored an interview with President Obama that was shown before the game. I made the mistake of listening to it and therefore upset my stomach before the spicy wing invasion could begin. Listening to Obama lie, dodge, and blame everybody else under the sun really leeched some of the enjoyment out of the day...

It’s clear that Roger Ailes and Fox News had big plans for their Super Bowl interview with President Obama. They were going to use the biggest stage of the year to prove that the president is a failure. Instead, it was Obama who humiliated Fox News. Video of the interview: (VIDEO-AT-LINK)It was obvious from the first question that Fox News had a clear agenda for this interview with Obama. The interview got off to a horrible start when O’Reilly tried to zing Obama with the long since fixed ACA website. This exchange set the tone: OBAMA: — as I said,...
