  • Trump crowd chants 'bulls---' after he says polls show impeachment backfiring for Democrats

Supporters at President Trump's rally in Florida on Tuesday broke into a chant of "bullshit" after the president insisted House Democrats' impeachment investigation was falling flat with voters. The president wasted little time riffing on impeachment during a rally in Sunrise, Fla., which was billed as a "homecoming" event after Trump declared residency in the Sunshine State. "They’re pushing that impeachment witch hunt, and a lot of bad things are happening to them," Trump told rallygoers. "Because you see what’s happening with the polls? Everybody said, 'That’s really bullshit.'"

As the clash over impeachment heats up, President Donald Trump is planning to hold a “homecoming” rally with supporters later this month at the BB&T Center in Sunrise. Trump recently filed to move his permanent residence from New York to Florida, and a campaign official mentioned that change of address as one of the reasons he was holding the rally. “President Trump recently became an official resident of the great state of Florida and looks forward to a ‘Welcome Home!’ rally with his fellow Floridians,” Michael Glassner, Chief Operating Officer of Donald J. Trump for President Inc, said in a...

The current Sheriff is Scott Israel; he was elected to office in November 2012. As Sheriff, Israel has made it a point to reach out to diverse crowds, including those who could be considered enemies of the U.S. and her allies. Broward Sheriff Scott Israel’s 2015 radical Muslim tour began this past January, when he posed for photos with Sofian Abdelaziz Zakkout and a member of Zakkout’s Miami-based AMANA group at a local mosque. Zakkout is a big supporter of Hamas. On his Facebook page, one can find Hamas logos and photos of Hamas militants and leaders, including Hamas founders Ahmed Yassin and...
  • China starts televising the sunrise on giant TV screens because Beijing is so clouded in smog

    01/18/2014 8:40:17 AM PST · by chessplayer · 49 replies
The smog has become so thick in Beijing that the city's natural light-starved masses have begun flocking to huge digital commercial television screens across the city to observe virtual sunrises. The futuristic screens installed in the Chinese capital usually advertize tourist destinations, but as the season's first wave of extremely dangerous smog hit - residents donned air masks and left their homes to watch the only place where the sun would hail over the horizon that morning. Commuters across Beijing found themselves cloaked in a thick, gray haze on Thursday as air pollution monitors issued a severe air warning and...
  • Sunrise commissioner blocks Muslim ceremony

SUNRISE— Disturbed by the prospect of lambs and goats being slaughtered in her city, Sunrise Commissioner Sheila Alu single-handedly blocked a Muslim religious ceremony set to take place on Sunday. "Yes, I was trying to stop it," Alu said on Wednesday. "It's shut down. I'm trying to protect innocent animals. This is not an appropriate setting for the slaughtering of animals in an open field in a city that's as populated as Sunrise. Usually these religious ceremonies take place in a rural area."
  • Sunrise candidate raises money at Hooters

A candidate for Sunrise City Commission chose an unusual venue for a campaign fund-raiser this week: a Hooters Restaurant. The chain is known more for its suggestive name and provocatively attired female servers — and, aficionados say, chicken wings — than for politics. "They're a nice, family, law-abiding establishment," said James DePelisi. "What makes Hooters unusual compared to another establishment?" Sarah Brown and Ann Zucker, two Broward Democratic leaders, said they'd never heard of a candidate fund-raiser at Hooters.

Background of the 2008 Sunrise Equities Scandal CHICAGO - Barack Obama has strong ties to a Chicago investment company that ripped off investors for a total of approximately $80 million. Sunrise Equities shut down in August when its CEO, Salman Ibrahim, and other top officers vanished. The money seems to have gone with them. Now, the Illinois Secretary of State and the FBI are investigating the scandal. About 150 investors, mostly Muslim, learned in August that they had lost all of their savings to the Sunrise Equities fraud. Sunrise Equities, a shariah-compliant investment firm, targeted investors who were mostly Pakistani...

One of Barack Obama's staunchest local supporters, Salman Aftab, was charged with assault and battery on October 3. The violently homophobic, former insider of failed Sunrise Equities (more below) and former Democrat candidate for city council has been arrested before. (snip) The Bench has learned that Aftab was involved briefly with the Obama for Illinois campaign, when Obama was running for the Illinois State Senate in 2004. At that time, Aftab was friendly with Tariq Siddiqui, a major Obama donations bundler, and was present at Sunrise Equities' offices for the ribbon cutting of the free office space given by Sunrise...
  • Did Obama know where he was for Sunrise rally?

It wasn’t clear if Barack Obama knew exactly where he was Friday afternoon when he spoke at his mass rally at the BankAtlantic Center. He repeatedly used the term “Sunshine” as a place name rather than “Sunrise,” the city where the arena is located, including, "How’s it going Sunshine? Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you everybody. It’s good to be in Sunshine." U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, a Democrat who represents north and central Broward and is co-chairman of Obama's Florida campaign, said the candidate could have been speaking metaphorically about Florida’s sunshine.

CAMP LIBERTY, Iraq (Army News Service, April 18, 2006) – As the sun rose over Baghdad on Easter morning, April 16, 250 Task Force Baghdad Soldiers gathered for a sunrise worship service on the shores of an artificial lake built during Saddam Hussein’s reign. “This is the day we look forward to all year,” said Chaplain (Lt. Col.) James White, Task Force Baghdad chaplain. “Yes, there’s a risk involved in coming out here to hold a service by the lake, but my message to those who have gathered here today is that we have freedom of worship. I’m just thankful...

SUNRISE -- Police seized 2 ounces of marijuana at the home of Anthony Diotaiuto after shooting him 10 times, according to information on the drug raid released Tuesday. Also Tuesday, while many friends and relatives of the 23-year-old bartender and student mourned him at a Davie funeral home, others appeared at a Sunrise City Commission meeting to demand an explanation for the fatal raid "Do 2 ounces of marijuana constitute a death warrant?" asked Sunrise resident William de Larm, a friend of Diotaiuto's.

Some time ago there was a post here about an active volcano in Alaska. The site referenced there had links to a couple of webcams in Alaska, one of which presented this picture earlier today. Of course, if you look now, that picture no longer has the red glow of the sunrise that made me go, "Wow!" when I looked at it. (It's sort of neat to be able to see what's going on in Alaska while sitting at my kitchen table in NJ.) ML/NJ
