Since so many here want so much to forgive Mel Gibson for his anti-semetic tirade and beligerent behavior towards law enforcement I was trying to come up with the best punishment. I think I got it. Besides the obligatory fine, I think the Judge should sentence him to 500 hours community service at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust. What do you all think his sentence should be?

I am not certain what the legal ramifications would be in changing Free Republic from donations to a subscription service. It seems to me the switch may be detrimental to legal issues such as copyrights. If that is true I'd appreciate if someone could briefly explain that to me. However if that is not the case here is my suggestion: I have been wondering about this for some time now and have not seen any discussions about it. So I would like to ask: Is it time for Free Republic to become an online subscription service? Currently, the site is...

OK gang. Time to put the old iconoclastic part of the old thinker to work.Yeah, I have enjoyed Ann's acidic barbs and laughed out loud at some of her more outrageous pronouncements over the years - though frankly, her act is getting a bit old with me - but that is not what this vanity is about. I suspect that we are all secretly aware that her public persona displays more than a little evidence of exhibitionism and narcissism....the woman clearly has some personality issues. I personally think that she likely has a low sense of self-worth, which her public...

It was well-noted Hillary Clinton played a significant role concerning policy decisions during the eight years of her husband's administration. In fact, Bill Clinton gave his wife the daunting task of formulating a national health care plan, during the first term of Clinton's presidency. The First Lady's elaborate bureaucracy-creating strategies for national health care ushered on one of the early defeats of the Clinton administration and she was never again given such a role in governmental policy-making. Although Hillary Clinton had to take a back seat regarding the actual workings of government, it was believed she played a major role...

The question has come up on different threads here - we know everyone who wants all ILLEGAL immigration stopped, but who is for stopping all LEGAL immigration as well? Whether it is just for a "short" time or permanently, let me know.

Yes, I know...I WENT TO HIS SITE. IT IS MY FAULT. (not BUSH's fault, MY fault) It is a sin I rarely commit. Only when I am rooting around everywhere for tidbits on some breaking story of special interest. He is so full of cheap tricks and scumbag self-promotion that he long ago exhausted any credit he was due for his role in exposing the tawdry antics in the Oval Office under its previous occupant. There are so many reasons not to visit Drudge: no news judgment, obsession with Hollywood, insignificant but titilating stories of the rich and stupid, his weird and...

One of the unfortunate diseases of the body politic has been the increasing politicalization of the US Supreme Court. This was not caused by conservatives; however, perhaps it should be solved by a conservative President. One outstanding chance is now upon us. Most likely, President Bush will take the safe road and go through the political gauntlet and appoint a known conservative judge. What we really need is a break in the partisanship of the appointment process. Nominating former President Clinton would give everyone pause and begin a process where politicians (mostly, but not exclusively Democrats) can cease making efforts...

Rogue yam has a vanity going on tonight: "Bushbashers' Thread of Penance (Vanity in Re:SCOTUS)"...right here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1446460/posts It's a We Told You So. It's a We knew, you didn't. It's a We Really Do Know A Whole Lot More About These Things Than You Squishy Doubters Do. That may all be so. But as long as we're indulging in completely unfounded speculation tonight, let's flip the premise. Rogue's premise is: Because the kind of nominee we said would be nominated WAS nominated, we must have been right all along. What if there is another operable premise? Try this: Because we...

With O'Connor already announcing her intention to retire, Rehnquist leaving us with only a question of when, and the strong likelihood of 85-year-old Stevens or Ginsburg retiring by 2008, I propose that Bush should consider nominating Anthony Kennedy to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Don't get me wrong: I'd love to watch Nancy Pelosi's head explode as Clarence Thomas or Antonin Scalia were promoted. But the viscreal thrill of it aside (and yes, I know I'm a junkie when I can refer to the "visceral thrill "of a Supreme Court nomination), it wouldn't do much. "Chief Justice" has...

I was lectured on Freerepublic that I was supposed to "feel safer" because we captured Saddam -- even though there's no evidence that he was behind 9-11. Osama is the guy that Bush promised to get "dead or alive" -- but four years later, he's still out there, free as a jail bird.Maybe it's time to refocus on the mastermind and culprits who were behind 9-11? Prediction: I'll get flamed as a "DU provacateur" for advocating that we go after somebody who killed 3000-plus people on American soil.

I just realized...I mean that. It's going to come down to this. I have often argued, as many here have, that when FReepers said they would sit home rather than vote for (McCain, usually, sometimes Guiliani), that such sitting out would put Hilary in the Whitehouse. But I'm not moving on this.
