Nevada regulators have ordered daily fantasy sports sites like DraftKings and FanDuel to shut down, saying they can't operate in the state without a gambling license. The decision comes amid growing backlash by investigators and regulators over the sites, which have grown in popularity in the past year. The sites insist they are skill-based games and not chance-based wagers, and are therefore not subject to gambling regulations.
  • On Your Mark: The Chicago Cubs will win the World Series, per Marty McFly

It’s beginning to seem like Marty McFly may have been onto something. The Cubs sure are an interesting team to watch. Nothing demonstrates that point more effectively than mad-hatter manager Joe Maddon calling for two suicide squeezes in the second inning on Saturday, en route to a 6-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Now, if you’re like me, you wonder why this isn’t always the play with a runner on third and fewer than two outs. I’ve almost never seen it played correctly by opposing defenses, and isn’t it more reliable than a fly ball to the outfield? But...
  • Fox Video Featuring Donald Trump Angers United States Soccer Fans

Fox Sports 1’s marketing of Saturday’s Mexico-United States Concacaf playoff game fired up American fans in an unintended way Friday with a promotional commercial using comments made by Donald J. Trump on the presidential campaign trail as a way to lead cheers for the United States national team.(VIDEO-AND-TWEET-AT-LINK)The video was promoted as a response to an earlier TV Azteca ad that used Trump’s words as a way to promote Mexico in the game. But Fox’s choice of Trump to promote the United States team seemed, at best, questionable. He has built his campaign for president around anti-immigration positions, especially those...

All in favor of more separation between sports and state, raise your beer koozies and stop millions of dollars from being wasted on bad coaches and old stadiums. I love sports and so do you. But itÂ’s not right that you and I donÂ’t have a strong say in how our politicians play ball with our money when it comes to renovating Stone Age stadiums or retiring awful athletic directors. IÂ’m calling foul on plays like a Texas judgeÂ’s plot to renovate the Astrodome despite strong voter opposition. And IÂ’m hitting the buzzer on schemes like asking taxpayers to subsidize...

DALLAS - A Texas high school football coach directed two players to strike a referee during a game because of missed calls that had hurt the team, the players claimed Friday during a national broadcast. During an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning, America,” Michael Moreno and Victor Rojas also repeated earlier claims that the ref had used racial slurs. Moreno said he regrets hitting Robert Watts and wants to apologize. Rojas said he was just doing what he was told. The two were suspended from the Jay High School football team in San Antonio in the aftermath of the game...

A House Republican chairman said on Thursday that he is likely to call a hearing on the new fantasy sports sites that critics say are skirting gambling laws. "My sense is that we will do a hearing," said Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.), the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. "There’s a lot of things on our front burner right now, but I think this is an issue that we ought to take a look at.”

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said Wednesday that he hopes Donald Trump can win the presidency, hours before Trump was set to participate in the second Republican debate. The Super Bowl MVP, whose four-game suspension for using deflated footballs was recently overturned by a judge, grinned broadly as he talked about his golf partner. "I hope so," he said. "It would be great. There would be a putting green on the White House lawn, I'm sure of that." Brady's locker sported a "Make America Great Again" red hat sent to him by Trump. "It was...

The death Tuesday of former New York Giants safety and Super Bowl champion Tyler Sash left his family, friends and fans in a state of shock. Jeff Woody, an Iowa University alumnus who met Sash (a former University of Iowa player) on a “handful of occasions,” was just one of those people. The former college running back wrote a touching post on his blog Tuesday, which was later shared by the Des Moines Register. Woody wrote about being an athlete and how having that as one's only identity can be dangerous. “If I identify myself as athlete and the sport...

In July, Boston withdrew its application to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, becoming the latest city to respond to citizen concerns and cold hard facts about sports entertainment and public investments. The Olympics seem to live in perpetual jeopardy, plagued by financial mismanagement and corruption. Bloomberg estimates that the 2004 games in Athens contributed €7 billion to Greece’s now-crippling debt. Russia spent billions failing to turn Sochi into an acceptable Olympic venue. China has struggled for years to get its money’s worth out of the 2008 Beijing infrastructure. The Olympics have long been heralded as a great opportunity for...
