    NPR ^ | August 5, 2017 | STACEY VANEK SMITH, HOST
Most of us know Ray Allen as a former NBA basketball player with the Milwaukee Bucks, the Seattle Supersonics, Boston Celtics Miami Heat. He's also the NBA's all-time leader in 3-point shots. What most people probably don't know is that Ray has always been fascinated by the Holocaust. In fact, whenever his team would visit Washington, D.C., to play the Wizards, Ray would make a visit to the National Holocaust Museum. Recently, Ray Allen decided to see the history in person. He visited the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland, and he wrote about the experience this week in The Players'...

Some good ones for all the jocks..... Don Meredith, Dallas Cowboys Quarterback once said: “Coach Tom Landry is such a perfectionist that if he was married to Raquel Welch, he would expect her to cook.” Harry Neale, professional hockey coach: "Last year we couldn't win at home and we were losing on the road. My failure as a coach was that I couldn't think of anyplace else to play.” Reggie Jackson commenting on Tom Seaver: "Blind people come to the ballpark just to listen to him pitch." Ezekiel Elliott of the Dallas Cowboys was notified today by the NFL that he will be suspended without pay for the team's first six 2017 regular-season games for violating the league's Personal Conduct Policy. Over the course of the last year, the league conducted an extensive investigation. League investigators interviewed more than a dozen witnesses, including Ms. Tiffany Thompson, who had alleged multiple instances of physical violence in July 2016, and Mr. Elliott. The league also consulted with medical experts. League investigators examined all available evidence, including photographic and digital evidence, thousands of text messages and other records of electronic...

Tim Tebow and Seth Bosch had never met until July 29 at Charlotte Sports Park, where Tebow, playing minor-league baseball for the St. Lucie Mets, was going against the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Tebow and his team will be in Tampa and Clearwater for eight games beginning Thursday night. But back to that brief encounter on July 29, one that turned into something special, all of it captured on video by Seth's mother, Ileanna. Tebow, 29, was taking practice swings in the on-deck circle, waiting to hit in the top of the seventh inning. Seth, who was 9 at the time...

Can you use a regular CO2 canister to charge a Crossman model 113? The online manual shows an odd CO2 canister with a handle on the end to open it. Supposedly, you twist the canister onto the end of the tube, open the charging handle, and allow the pressure to equalize. Will a standard CO2 canister work on this?

Felipe Wu opens the door, apologizing for the mess. On the floor beside him sits a suitcase overstuffed with clothes. A few feet away, boxes filled with pistols and ammunition climb the stairs. There are shoes in the kitchen. Boxes in the living room. A hole in the wall where the air conditioner once sat. It is a home in disarray. A family that is about to move.

The physician credited with discovering Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) in American football players said that anyone who lets children play football could be held accountable for abuse. “Someday there will be a district attorney who will prosecute for child abuse [on the football field], and it will succeed,” said Dr. Bennet Omalu at a New York Press Club talk, Sports Illustrated reported. His remarks come shortly after a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that 110 out of 111 National Football League players had evidence of CTE when their brains were examined postmortem.
  • Umpire Joe West suspended three games for calling Adrian Beltre MLB’s biggest complainer

    Washington Post ^ | August 8, 2017
Joe West said in June that Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was MLB’s biggest complainer. Now the veteran umpire has been given something about which to complain: a three-game suspension for those comments. As reported Tuesday by the Los Angeles Times’s Bill Shaikin, who cited information from the World Umpires Association, the MLB commissioner’s office gave West the ban for creating an “appearance of lack of impartiality” toward Beltre and the Rangers. The union said that West, who was set to umpire a Dodgers-Diamondbacks series in Phoenix, began serving his suspension Tuesday. West’s remarks were published by USA Today in...

Colin Kaepernick is still a free agent, and an NFL inside source told The Daily Caller Monday that the former 49ers quarterback has no one but himself to blame. Despite the ongoing narrative that Kaepernick’s very public political views are preventing any NFL teams from offering him a roster spot, TheDC’s source claims Kaep himself has turned down at least one contract in the hopes of stirring up a media frenzy that eventually leads to a more lucrative deal for the 27 year old vet.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) -- It's official: Tebowmania is a hit for the St. Lucie Mets, and for the Florida State League. Bolstered significantly by Tim Tebow's presence on the roster, the Class A Mets affiliate in the FSL has already set a single-season home attendance record with about a month left to play. The team record was toppled on Friday night, when 3,399 fans pushed the attendance for the season to 108,057. Over the Mets' first 29 seasons, the record attendance mark was 105,379. St. Lucie is seeing nearly a 50 percent jump in average attendance per game...
  • Tim Tebow was one of the quarterbacks considered by the Dolphins before they signed Jay Cutler

Beefore coaxing veteran quarterback Jay Cutler out of retirement this weekend, the Miami Dolphins reportedly considered a number of other options after starter Ryan Tannehill re-injured his left knee during practice last week. One of those options was Tim Tebow, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. It actually kind of makes sense. Cutler is seen as a natural choice for Miami coach Adam Gase, who was Cutler’s offensive coordinator in Chicago during the 2015 season. That ended up being one of Cutler’s best statistical years — he threw for 3,659 yards while completing 64.4% of his passes with...

Darren “Dutch” Daulton, the charismatic catcher and master of Macho Row, whose talent for controlling both a pitching staff and a clubhouse helped the 1993 Phillies win an improbable National League pennant, died Sunday at age 55 after a four-year battle with brain cancer. A three-time all-star, Mr. Daulton played 14 seasons for the Phillies organization, which drafted him in 1980. But he will be recalled longest and most fondly in Philadelphia for his role as the cleanup hitter and locker-room leader of the 1993 Phils. That wild and wildly popular team, with him supplying much of its power on...

I'm relatively new to the sport with roughly 30 rounds under my belt but I'm finding that the first station is the bane of my existence. I pretty regularly shoot stations 2&3 clean. I might drop 1 on 4&5 but that first station kills me. I mean I NEVER shoot it clean and that's whether I shoot it first, last or in between. If anybody has an idea of why this is happening and what I can do to correct it I'm all ears.

CANTON, OHIO - The countdown is on. In a matter of hours, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. “It just feels almost unfair to have spent almost 30 years in the NFL, and had as much as I’ve had,” Jerry said, “and still get to be a part of something like this.” “This is so substantive to me. I’ve experienced some wonderful things, and this is right there with the very best. It’s very humbling. Very humbling," he said.

Oakland Athletics outfielder Matt Joyce has officially been suspended by Major League Baseball for two games after he shouted a gay slur at a fan during Friday night's loss to the Angels. An investigation by the commissioner's office on Saturday found his actions violating the MLB's code of conduct. Joyce has since apologized for the slur on Twitter. "In regard to last night's incident, I first and foremost want to sincerely apologize to the fans, the Oakland A's, MLB and the most importantly the LGBTQ community for my comments and actions," Joyce said in a string of tweets. A missing California woman who was found alive Friday in a cattle ranching area after vanishing more than two weeks ago survived by eating a few bugs and drinking from a dirty cattle trough, authorities said. She told rescuers that she did not want to be found. The former public elementary school teacher, Jamie Tull, was struggling with emotional issues and was last heard from on July 17 when she called her husband while she was driving and crashed into a ditch, authorities said.
