ormer Indianapolis Colts offensive lineman Joe Staysniak received a one-week suspension without pay from WFNI Radio in Indianapolis on Friday for racist comments he made Wednesday, per Dana Hunsinger Benbow of the Indianapolis Star. Staysniak, co-host of the Fan Morning Show with Jeff and Big Joe, said black people needed to stop "being a victim" and he finds it "harder and harder to believe [black people] are being targeted" by police, per Hunsinger Benbow. His co-host, Jeff Rickard, addressed the situation during Friday's show.

I am interested in buying two firearms: a handgun, and a short-barrel shotgun, for personal protection and for sport. From what I've read, handgun design for the mid and upper-end prices have improved significantly over the past several years. The Luago Alien looks like a beautiful gun, with all the features I'm looking for. At $5K, it's pricey. The Sig Sauer M400 and CZ75 Czechmate look great, too. All are red-dot ready. As far as shotguns are concerned, the Mossberg JM Pro 940 looks great.

Drew Brees’ grandfathers went out the window pretty quickly. In just 24 hours, Brees went from flag-waving pillar of American patriotism — the type of person President Donald Trump would be proud of — to a groveling soul.

Yesterday, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was asked by a journalist if he would be taking a knee during the National Anthem now. In the past, he has declined to. He said: I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country. Let me just tell what I see or what I feel when the national anthem is played and when I look at the flag of the United States.

Across the sports world, coaches and athletes have offered their opinions on the current civil movement spreading across the country in the wake of George Floyd’s death, including the Florida State Seminoles’ women’s basketball team. Earlier this week, The Athletic beat writer Tashan Reed reported that Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell told him the following:

As protests over the death of George Floyd and police brutality in general continue, NFL teams such as the Chicago Bears are devoting more time to discuss these same issues. Head coach Matt Nagy shared that his team engaged in a two-hour video conference to discuss race relations, and he’s hopeful the Bears will be unified in the coming months.

When people ask me to name my favorite athlete of all time, I give two names: Wes Unseld and Sonny Jurgensen. If pressed, I go with Big Wes because he delivered a championship to Washington, D.C. and because of what he meant to the community off the court. Unseld died today at the age of 74. The cause of death was “complications from pneumonia.†You have to be really old to remember Unseld as a basketball superstar. In his senior year at Louisville, he averaged 23 points per game, with a .613 field goal percentage, and led Louisville to...

The only hockey players most Americans can name from the top of their heads are Gretzky, Howe, Messier, and Lemieux. I would rate hockey at the lowest of the 4 big sports. Why doesn't it get much attention?

Black runners make exhaustive mental checklists, are confronted by suspicious neighbors and fear for their lives when they go out to log miles. We asked readers to share their experiences of “running while black.” Here is a selection of those submissions, led by an essay from Kurt Streeter, one of our writers. Responses have been edited for clarity and length. SEATTLE — Our jog was just beginning when my young son asked the question. “Dad, today can we go through my favorite neighborhood?” During the pandemic, we’ve made a habit of running together in the early evening. We course down...

t's a glorious day for baseball at Yankee Stadium and fans are flocking to watch their team battle the Oakland Athletics, but two words are enough to cloud their joy. One word is "George." The other is "Steinbrenner." After threatening to pull the Yankees out of their stadium in the Bronx and resettle them in New Jersey, it is well the multimillionaire owner is not present, for at this game he has no friends. "The Yankees are a New York tradition," said Brendan Walsh, his voice heavy with sorrow. "To move them would be awful . . . just awful....

Former Yankees player and general manager Bob Watson died at the age of 74 in his Houston home on Thursday night after a long battle with kidney disease, according to the Astros. Watson was the Yankees general manager from 1995 to 1998, a tenure that included leading the Bombers to a World Series title in 1996, their first championship since 1978. He also played for the Bombers for three seasons from 1980 to 1982. Watson was primarily a first baseman and left fielder throughout his 19-year major league career, which began in 1969, including the first 14 with the Astros....

TAMPA, Fla. -- It's a warm, sun-drenched weekday morning outside D.W. Webb Middle School, in the Town 'n' Country neighborhood of Tampa. Under a cloudless sky, Joe Molloy, a boulder of a man, bespectacled and clad in a gray Webb Middle School T-shirt, khaki shorts and black New Balance sneakers, is preparing for his first phys ed class of the day. He's going to have his sixth-graders play kickball, so he's placing orange cones around the grass field to serve as the bases. "They don't know how to set up the cones," Molloy laments to his fellow teacher, Timothy Ruff....

Do you miss the absence of professional sports since the coronavirus healthscare changed the world?

A week or two ago, it looked like German soccer would resume this coming weekend. That was the plan, but it did not receive approval from the government. Now, the government has approved a resumption of play in mid-May for Germany’s top two professional soccer league. Games will be played behind closed doors, with only around 300 people — players, coaches, referees, team officials and staff, broadcast crews — allowed in. The decision follows the testing for the Wuhan coronavirus of 1,724 members of the 36 teams in Germany’s top two tiers. Only ten tested positive”. (No “herd immunity” in...

Over the last week, NFL teams had the option to exercise five-year options for first-round picks drafted in 2017, locking them in for the 2021 season. These 14 first-rounders had their options declined.

Former President Barack Obama violated Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's stay-at-home order by sneaking out to play golf. He also embarrassed his wife whose broadcast message urged folks to "remember, we urge you to stay home except if you need essential health care, essential food or supplies, or to go to your essential job." Barack defended his golf outing contending "it was essential health care. Michelle's great and I love her, but being cooped up at home day after day is very stressful. Besides, what activity could be more socially distancing than golf. I can't understand why Gov. Northam banned it....
