Socks, former first cat of President Bill Clinton's administration, has cancer and is not expected to live much longer, said Betty Currie on Wednesday. Currie of Hollywood was Clinton's personal secretary during his administration and has been the caretaker of Socks since Clinton left office in 2001. David Langford, co-founder and a veterinarian at Three Notch Veterinary Clinic, has been caring for Socks for the past seven years. "He's got a terminal illness. We don't know how much longer he'll live," Langford said Wednesday afternoon, after receiving permission from Currie to speak about Socks. Langford said Socks has cancer of...

Clinton's Socks the Cat Near Death December 12, 2008 05:25 PM ET | Bedard, Paul | Permanent Link By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers. We have some bad news today on the presidential pet front. Socks the cat, probably the most photographed presidential kitty in history, has cancer and isn't expected to live. "His days are numbered," says Barry Landau, a friend of Socks' master, Betty Currie. Landau, a presidential historian and author of The President's Table, tells our Suzi Parker that the Currie family could have put Socks on feeding tubes, but decided against it. "They fear he is too...

Where are the damn car keys? The socks? The left sneaker, when only the right one remains where you last pulled them off? In the greater universe of smaller things, some objects seem to have a mind, and get-away plan, all their own. Explaining it away as aging grey matter, just one of those days or mind games played by the dog, most of us just blindly move forward — always keeping an eye out for our much loved but still missing bric-a-brac. But what if science could open a door into this lost world? What if the brightest men...

A customer has already assembled his above ground, Red Wood Hot tub, and I have already run the gas line for it. Now the customer an (architect) wants me to do the installation of the rest of it (excluding electrical). He already knows that I don't want to do it and that I will have to read the complicated directions and do a slow learning process to get it together, so my question is, what should I charge? I am a plumbing contractor and I prefer to give a total pre-agreed on price total, so that we can both relax...

SAN FRANCISCO - Officials in a Northern California school district might not think Tiggers are such wonderful things after agreeing to pay $95,000 in lawyers' fees to five families who sued the school over its dress code. The parents went to court after a student was disciplined for wearing socks with the "Winnie the Pooh" cartoon character Tigger on the first day of school last year. The district's superintendent said Thursday that the settlement money is for the plaintiffs' lawyers; the district is also on the hook to pay the lawyers it hired. The settlement also says Redwood Middle School...

I'd been here a couple of months, and had begun to worry about handling all the threads. Sooooo, today I grabbed all of the pages by source, grabbed the tables of links to posts to and from me, and sorted them (the easy way, well, as easy as it gets) alpha instead of chrono. Please, don't tell me that there's a way to do that automatically, or my brain will hurt.

Y’know . . . I hate to disappoint my Christian voting block brethren, but I’d vote for any of the GOP guys, or their wives, or their chunky step son, or their one eyed three legged dog named Hooch, or their obnoxious aunt Maria (Y’know . . . the one with a mustache) rather than have to watch, listen and live with Hillary in the Whitehouse barking orders down to us serfs. Screeeeeew that. Listen, my persnickety friends on the Right: You can bust a nut over the various serious and not so serious foibles and philosophies of Rudy, Romney,...

(WASHINGTON, DC) DNA removed from black and white hair follicles has revealed the identity of a stray cat found in Iraq as that of Socks, Bill and Hillary Clinton’s White House cat. Apparently, the war-bedraggled tabby was found feeding on scraps outside of a reporters’ compound in Baghdad, Iraq. In a story that New York Times war correspondent John Burns broke last week, reporters have witnessed young Iraqis regularly feeding as many as 60 stray cats with platters of leftover rice and lamb. Burns is quite sure of the count because, as surging American troops were fighting in Baghdad and...

AS THE “first pet” of the Clinton era, Socks, the White House cat, allowed “chilly” Hillary Clinton to show a caring, maternal side as well as bringing joy to her daughter Chelsea. So where is Socks today? Once the presidency was over, there was no room for Socks any more. After years of loyal service at the White House, the black and white cat was dumped on Betty Currie, Bill Clinton’s personal secretary, who also had an embarrassing clean-up role in the saga of his relationship with the intern Monica Lewinsky. Some believe the abandoned pet could now come between...

It's a good thing former President Bill Clinton had lots of socks. It's where he kept all of his secrets, recorded on tape. Author Taylor Branch reveals that Bubba invited him into the residence over 70 times to record Clinton's oral history. Clinton kept the tapes in a sock drawer. He later used them for his autobiography. After the sessions, Branch would tape his own recollections on his drive home. His tape-based book, Wrestling History: The Bill Clinton Tapes, is out next year. Finding room for the tapes wasn't hard because Clinton "had a lot of socks," Branch said in...

Correct me if I'm wrong but our government is not a democracy but a Representative, Constitutional, Republic. I'm interested to learn more on how this forum supports the United States and its form of government yet I find the threads to be bland, lacking of the basic principles that a so-called "Republican" arena should be supporting, and smacking sorely of sock-sucking. However, since everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, including dangerously ignorant individuals, can someone explain why now that illegal immigrants have been identified in New Haven, CT...why are they not being picked up and sent back to their...
