It didn’t take long. The layoffs and closings are piling up. The saddest thing about compiling this list is that by the time today is over, the list will probably have grown dramatically. The next saddest part is that at least some of these lay off employees voted for Barack Obama because they didn’t believe this would happen. These are more than just headlines. Every number represents real people who have lost their livelihood. Boeing Announces Big Layoffs in Defense Division cut 30% of workforce Anonymous employer in Los Vegas: “I have 114 employees. I’m firing 22” Momentive Inc. plans...

Let's begin with what this isn't. It isn't a final statement on anything. It's the opening to a discussion and the discussion is a look at how we can win. The proposals and ideas that follow are not in compliance with any dogma. They do not call for abandoning principles, but they do call for pragmatic action in the here and now in order to secure the victory of those principles. That's a tricky line, but that's also how political battles are won. Plenty of readers will have philosophical objections to some of what follows and I respect that, but...

It was an experiment that should have never worked. On paper and in conventional wisdom, the United States of America was a virtual impossibility. In no other time in the history of man had such a small group of men and women stood against such insurmountable odds, to stand and declare independence from the most powerful nation on the planet. Money was not on their side, manpower was not on their side. They had nothing but the determination and belief that the cause they were fighting for, that they were risking their fortunes and very lives for, was the most...

Before anything else, let us pause to remember the casualties (both civilian and military) of "The War to End All Wars" -- the war which saw the first fighter planes, the first tanks, the horrors of mass bayonet charges against entrenched machine guns and artillery -- and the first chemical warfare. This is Armistice Day. But let us not take Armistice Day as a sign, nor a signal, that we should abandon our fight for freedom from oppression, whether here in the United States or abroad. The election of 2012 has come and gone: despite the assurances of those who...

First off, let me say this. I am completely, unabashedly and unapologetically pro-life. That being said, I was somewhat dismayed by the reports of the 2012 election featuring the largest gender gap in history. Given multiple national polls showing that people do not support abortion, it remains an issue, and it remains an issue that the GOP does not handle well. I remember watching the VP debate between Biden and Ryan, and being hugely disappointed in how Ryan handled the abortion question. You can watch a video of it below, but, if I may paraphrase Ryan's answer in general terms,...

The American Red Cross, which bills itself as “the world's largest humanitarian network,” is pushing back against critics of its response to Hurricane Sandy, with the head of the organization saying its relief effort has been “near flawless” despite criticism from stranded storm victims and elected officials. Two weeks after the superstorm slammed the East Coast, leaving millions of residents without power and in need of food, warmth and shelter, the venerable nonprofit has taken a public battering over what many victims and some officials saw as a lackluster and unfocused response. Thomas Donovan, a 43-year-old software salesman who was...

The Colombo family was a principal target in the January 2001 FBI raid against the Italian Mafia in the Northeast, and on Friday the feds announced that with the exception of reputed soldier Ralph Scopo Jr. it has wrapped up the case as reported by John Marzulli for the Daily News: "Scopo, 63, claims he is suffering from liver failure and thus is too sick to stand trial on extortion charges relating to the Cement and Concrete Workers Union Local 6A, according to court papers. He was scheduled for trial in January but Brooklyn Federal Judge Kiyo Matsumoto adjourned the...

Just imagine for a moment what would happen if George Bush’s FEMA Director “Brownie” had suggested homeless African American victims of Katrina be relocated to an empty Louisiana prison. I’ll wait while you try to stop laughing and compose yourself. Whether it would have been a good idea or a TERRIBLE INSULT would have made no difference; it would never have even been discussed. Paternalistic liberals could not sleep at night knowing this was going on. They would much rather “their” Black people sleep in tents….. than sleep in a well-lit warm and safe former prison. “Oh the inhumanity of...

By Michael, on November 9th, 2012 The victory by Barack Obama on election night has resulted in a huge wave of firings and layoffs all over America. A large number of businesses seem to have suddenly shifted into panic mode. The number of layoff announcements that we have seen in the last 48 hours has been absolutely shocking. So why is this happening? Well, the truth is that the federal government is absolutely suffocating small businesses all over America with rules, regulations and taxes. If you have never tried to run a small business, then you have no idea...

Come right in and step right up. See the bright lights and the oddities of nature. Inside folks, for the low price of twenty-two trillion dollars, you can see Binders of Women, Team Big Bird and entire reams of green windmills and fields full of bayonets and horses. Here lies become the truth and everything is full of sugar. And the highlight of the show with be Barack, the Exotic Prince from the Wilds of Indonesia and Kenya, with a special appearance by Oprah and a hologram of JFK. Here in the Carnival of Fools, the party never stops and...

Bankrupt Bakers Footwear Group on Friday began liquidating 150 stores across the country, including 21 in the Los Angeles area. The St. Louis-based company's stores are being liquidated by Tiger Capital Group and SB Capital Group and the process should be completed by year's end. Stores being closed have about $30 million in inventory, the companies said in a statement. There are 33 stores in California. The going-out-of-business sales involve 70 percent of the group's Bakers and Wild Pair mall-based stores, which are familiar to shoppers throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties. Bakers Footwear Group sells a private-label and national-brand...

Let’s just go ahead and get this out of the way, eh? Aren’t feminists who embrace the “slut†label (e.g., “Slutwalk“) all about empowerment and liberation? And if you are an empowered liberated woman, what difference does it make if you’re married or your partner is married? All those silly vows — “Forsaking all others†and so forth — are just oppressive tools by which the patriarchy subjugates women, and anyone who buys into moral ideals of marital permanence and lifelong fidelity has succumbed to what the Marxists would call “false consciousness.â€Stipulate that adultery has occurred and continues to occur...

Superstorm Sandy's really turned a lot of people's lives upside down here on Long Island. The watchword for myself and my family is "thankful." We're thankful that we're safe. We're thankful that our home is largely undamaged. We're thankful that God protected our family and that we've had the resources to more or less rough out the conditions for the past week and a half without any ridiculous hardship. It's been 11 days since my car got swamped by a storm surge. I haven't been able to get gas with any degree of regularity, and when I have there have...

The election revealed the true nature of the supporters of Barack Obama: they do not care about anyone but themselves. The Free Obama-phone Lady from Ohio is now the face of America. If you don’t give her free stuff you suck. After a hard day of ranting about how great Obama is and how evil conservatives are goes home to watch her flat screen TV she got with her Obama bucks EBT card. Barack Obama has already done great damage to this country. He will do much more damage over the next four years John Galt Calling: Had Enough? By Doug Patton Thursday, November 8, 2012 “They believe in free stuff. We believe in free people.” - U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, 2012 vice presidential nominee When I heard Congressman Ryan utter those words during his speech to the Republican National Convention in Tampa last summer, I thought they would define the 2012 race for the White House. No statement so clearly describes the deep division between the earners and the takers in...

First, I live in South Eastern Connecticut not by choice but due to my military obligations. Second, the day I get out of the military will be the last day I live here. I am heading back out West which is where I lived before I joined the military. Third, I survived Sandy just fine. I ensured I had 4G coverage before the storm: Generator, Gas, Grub and Gallons of water. I guess you could add Guns and make it 5G coverage. On to what I am writing about, the pistol permit process in a liberal / restrictive state. Here...

As recent survivors of Superstorm Sandy, my family has been focused this week on being thankful for the things we have. As I tell my kids, gratitude is largely a matter of attitude, but it's especially poignant when you see the struggles of our neighbors and friends in Long Beach, south Queens, and Staten Island. Maybe the most frustrating single aspect of this entire Sandy experience has been watching politicians pat each other on the back while they posture over ridiculous consumer protection laws designed to prosecute price gougers. In the aftermath of the storm last week, when I realized...
