Solo had gotten into a physical altercation with her half-sister and nephew, who was a minor at the time in June of 2014. Solo seemed to catch a lucky break in January when the case was dismissed due to “procedural grounds.” However, an appeals court reversed that decision and cleared the path for charges against Solo to be re-filed. ... Hope’s half-sister Teresa Obert .. Police documents indicate that Hope Solo’s night of fury did not end there. Upon being arrested for two domestic violence charges at Obert’s house, Solo became belligerent with officers and jail staff, at one point...

University of Miami athlete Austen Everett died from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2012. Her mother said it was soon after that, as she found out about even more sick players, that she came to believe that artificial turf used on soccer fields was the culprit. "I realized, 'Oh my God, the thing that she loved most probably killed her,'" June Leahy told NBC News. "And that was hard." Leahy says since her daughter's death, she still hasn't gotten enough answers — or action from lawmakers and regulators.

Iranian soccer fans were left reeling earlier this week after eight members of the women’s national team were found to be men, the Al-Arabiya website reported on Monday. Mojtabi Sharifi, described as an official connected to the Iranian soccer league, said that the footballers “have been playing with Iran’s female team without completing sex change operations.” [Snip] Sharifi accused Iranian football’s governing body of being responsible for the “unethical” cock up.

  • Gang Of Six Aggressive Arab Passengers Force Flight To Be Locked Down, Diverted,

It certainly appeared to have been a premeditated, pre-planned disruption of a routine flight, perhaps designed to test responses or as a larger plot to intimidate and thereby garner privileges or concessions. It’s not likely that the six despicable individuals involved all just happened to find each other as members of the same Arab soccer team, although they certainly do deserve each other’s company. A Southwest Airlines flight from San Diego to Chicago was rerouted to Amarillo late Monday, with six passengers removed and subsequently arrested on charges of “interference with a flight crew and abetting.” FBI special agent T....

Amarillo Police boarded the plane and removed six passengers described as “unruly”Members of a San Diego-based recreational soccer league were removed from a cross-country flight Monday and arrested on suspicion of federal charges. A dozen members of the San Diego Chaldean Soccer League were flying Southwest Airlines to Chicago’s Midway Airport for a tournament, friends tell NBC 7. A "level one threat" was declared onboard Flight 1522 and prompted pilots to divert the flight and its 117 passengers to Amarillo, Texas, just after 10 p.m., according to court documents. Southwest Airlines said in a statement that “several passengers traveling together...

Argentina's Primera Division was home to the most delicious form of heckling over the weekend when Racing fans threw a cheeseburger at Belgrano goalkeeper Juan Olave mid-match. It's unclear what the cheeseburger was supposed to symbolize, maybe it was just the most readily-available object to throw? Either way, Olave picked the dang burger up, took two bites and thanked the crowd. I played goalie in a rec league last year. I got a stitch from drinking too much water. This dude is out here eating cheeseburgers. Meanwhile the commenters on YouTube are afraid for his safety. You know what has...
  • Clint Dempsey stars as USA hammer Cuba 6-0 to reach Gold Cup semis

One of the joys of watching US soccer as it rises in prominence is to see Clint Dempsey in his prime. There are days, like Saturday, when he seems to run effortlessly down the field, diving and sprawling and scoring from almost any angle. In a 6-0 Gold Cup quarter-final vanquishing of Cuba that could easily have been 10, Dempsey scored three goals in three completely different ways. It was his first hat-trick for USA, and he probably could have scored at least three more – that’s how dominant he was in victory that seemed far too easy for a...

Pay equality activists are at it again. This time they’re using the success of the U.S. women’s soccer team in the World Cup final to push their agenda. According to Politico, what we really need to be talking about is the players’ paychecks. “Pay for professional women’s soccer players is at best paltry and at worst outright shameful compared to those of their male counterparts. (The U.S. men’s team is currently ranked 27, compared with the world-champion women),” Mary Pilon writes. “Yet the total payout for the Women’s World Cup this year will be $15 million, compared with the total...

Alright I must have seen this clip a hundred times... a woman, dressed in white, kicks a soccer ball - it hits the bar, but then seems to go in, then bounces out. The goal is defended by a woman in a dark uniform with dark hair, I'm assuming she's Japanese. Now everyone is making a big deal of this saying she "scored her own goal" or some other BS and I'm sick of it can someone PLEASE explain to me what happened?

    one man's opinion...
The US Women's National Soccer team played a superb, thrilling game against powerhouse Germany yesterday, coming away with a 2-0 win, and a spot in the finals this weekend. And coming on the 4th of July weekend, it couldn't be a better all around-feel-good story. The huge crowd sported every form of red, white, and blue attire imaginable, and displayed their colors proudly at every opportunity. Cheers of "USA!, USA" filled the stadium. But if you take a closer look, beyond the excitement of the game, you'll notice that something's very wrong, and very lacking, at USA soccer.

MONTREAL — The United States advanced to the World Cup final on Tuesday with its most impressive performance in recent memory, notching a 2-0 victory over a top-ranked German team that had steamrolled its way to the semifinals. The Americans, who looked discordant in the early parts of the tournament, seem to be peaking at the perfect time. They looked harmonious and controlled play against the favored Germans for large stretches of the match at Olympic Stadium. Carli Lloyd, who had scored in the team’s two previous wins, put her stamp on yet another night, scoring on a penalty kick...

)It's a showdown between the two top teams in women's football -- and according to United States star Alex Morgan, it is "virtually a final." Morgan and her USWNT teammates take on favorite Germany in Montreal for a place in the Women's World Cup final against either England or Japan on July 5. It's hard to pick a winner from two nations which have each triumphed at the tournament twice -- even though the USWNT have not lifted the trophy since 1999 and Germany have won two of the last three tournaments. So far, neither team has had an entirely...
