Johannesburg, South Africa was treated to a rare dusting of snow this week – the city’s first in more than 10 years. The unexpected winter wonderland was part of a patch of snow that covered various provinces through the weekend into Monday, South Africa’s Times newspaper reported. Photos from around the city show delighted residents gallivanting among the snowflakes, which last coated the area in August 2012. “Eleven years down the line, it’s exciting that we have snow,” local Jennifer Banda said. Others on social media referred to the weather as “pure magic,” The Guardian reported.

Rescuers are trying to free more than 1,000 vehicles which have been stranded on a highway for two days after a heavy snow storm struck Japan. Authorities have distributed food, fuel and blankets to the drivers on the Kanetsu expressway, which connects the capital Tokyo to Niigata, in the north. The snow, which began on Wednesday evening, has caused multiple traffic jams along the road. It has also left more than 10,000 homes in the north and west without power. A Kyodo News report said that there were multiple reports of congestion at different points of the Kanetsu expressway. The...
  • GLACIER NATIONAL PARK’S “GOING-TO-THE-SUN ROAD” ON FOR ITS LATEST OPENING ON RECORD DUE EXCEPTIONAL SNOW AND PERSISTENT COLD

Snow clearing crews are still battling through Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road even as the calendar reads the second week of July. As of today, July 9, Montana’s infamous mountain pass remains closed. Two factors are responsible: 1) last winter’s above-average snowfall, and 2) persistent cold and terrible wintry conditions throughout the spring/summer of 2020. ... this year will likely break the current record for the road’s latest opening, which stands as July 13 in 2011. ... Serving as evidence of how the so-called climate experts can get it spectacularly wrong, let’s recall the predictions made by Montana’s National Park...

Billings-area residents trudged through the slush Monday, but the storm brought some "good" news: The long winter of suffering has not been in vain. Shortly after 10 a.m., the National Weather Service in Billings announced that a scant 0.1 inches of snow had fallen — not enough to accumulate much on the ground or streets, but enough to break the single-season snowfall record. The measuring station at Billings Logan International Airport recorded 2.6 inches by 1 p.m., bringing the yearly total to 106.1 inches.
  • D.C. lawmaker says recent snowfall caused by ‘Rothschilds controlling the climate’

A D.C. lawmaker responded to a brief snowfall Friday by publishing a video in which he espoused a conspiracy theory that Jewish financiers control the weather. D.C. Council member Trayon White Sr. (D-Ward 8) posted the video to his official Facebook page at 7:21 a.m. as snow flurries were hitting the nation’s capital. The video, shot through the windshield of a car driving west on Interstate 695 through downtown Washington, shows snowy skies while White narrates. “Man, it just started snowing out of nowhere this morning, man. Y’all better pay attention to this climate control, man, this climate manipulation,” he...

A stationary lake-effect snowband off Lake Erie dumped an incredible 34 inches of snow at Erie Airport on Christmas Day alone, quadrupling their previous record snowiest Christmas Day - 8.1 inches in 2002 - as well as smashing their all-time snowiest single day on record by over a foot - 20 inches on Nov. 11, 1956. That heavy snow continued into Tuesday, bringing their storm total since 7 p.m. EST Christmas Eve to an incredible 56.5 inches of snow - just over 4.5 feet - in 42 hours. This prolific event shattered all previous multi-day snowfall records in Erie dating...
  • Montana Snow About 60 Days Early

I live south of Missoula, Montana, in the Sapphire & Bitterroot Mountains at 3,500 ft; in the area being discussed, and we haven’t been getting snow like this for several years. Our hunting seasons have been without snow quite regularly and last year we didn’t get ANY snow until the last few days of the season in late November. However the winter snow sticks around here until early August at higher altitude (6,000 ft+). So, it’s about 60 days early, and with this the bow hunters might stop complaining about terrible tracking conditions without SNOW. Animals leave tell-tale tracks in...

Is anybody else out there watching the "Snowfall" on FX? Something did not seem quite right but I couldn't quite figure it out. Well, today it hit me: the total absence of Crips & Bloods. Anybody familiar with the L.A. social scene in the early 80s would know that drug trafficking was dominated in South Central by those two rival gangs. Somebody could try to go into the drug business for himself but he wouldn't last long. Either the Crips or Bloods were going to get into his action or he wouldn't be long for this world. It would be...

While it may seem like only yesterday that you were enjoying a cold glass of white wine on a sunny terrace, a winter chill is spreading across the country. Yes, it’s already snowing in (some parts) of France — and there’s a storm brewing too. France’s weather agency Météo France predicted “fairly significant snowfall” in the French Alps as a storm passes across the country on Wednesday and Thursday. The storm will also bring some serious rainfall further west, especially in Languedoc and the Cévennes, as well as in the mountains of Corsica. …

DENVER - A developing winter storm is taking aim at Colorado, and it has the potential to be the biggest snowstorm of the season so far, for Denver. The El Niño weather pattern has delivered storms right into our "sweet spot" a few times since November, but Denver has only officially registered more than 3 inches of snow three times. It will take about 8 inches to take the title. That would beat the 1-day storm total from the middle of December. Denver’s only storms this season to measure more than 3 inches of snow: 7.7" December 15 4" November...

Ski resorts in parts of Montana and Wyoming fired up their webcams to capture images of something they don't usually see on their slopes: snow falling in late July. "An abnormally powerful low-pressure system is winding up near the Montana-Saskatchewan border – something more typical of the cold-weather season than mid-July," said weather.com senior meteorologist Nick Wiltgen. "As a result, it's yanking some pretty cold air southward quickly enough to bring subfreezing temperatures into the Northern Rockies at elevations above 10,000 feet or so. Throw in some moisture and boom, snow." The system dumped several inches of wintry precipitation on...

The cooling was predicted at least two years ago by Russian scientist Habibullo Abdussamatov, supervisor of the Astrometria project on the International Space Station and head of space research at the Pulkovo Observatory, St Petersburg. Abdussamatov has predicted that this year will mark the start of a downward trend into a mini ice age, with its nadir in 2055. The cold period would be the fifth mini ice-age to occur in a millennium, suggesting that the climate is following a well-worn natural pattern.
