Numerous restaurants across the country have joined a Sanctuary Restaurants Movement to offer safe and tolerant spaces to restaurant workers, employers, and consumers that face hate and harassment in the restaurant industry. As a collaborative project between the Restaurant Opportunities Center United (ROC United) and Presente.org, the Sanctuary Restaurant Movement seeks to not only create solidarity, but also to provide support and resources like job training and legal advice to individuals and their families impacted by hostile policies.

FT. MYERS (2010-2-17) - After years of struggle, tomato pickers in Florida will soon see a pay increase. In a surprise move Tuesday, the Florida Tomato Exchange agreed to pay migrant workers the extra penny per pound the Coalition of Immokalee Workers has fought for the last three years. The Exchange said it will allow companies like McDonalds and Burger King to pay the extra penny per pound to workers if they choose. It represents growers producing 75 percent of all Florida tomatoes. Those companies will pay a supplemental wage based on the amount of tomatoes purchased. The money will...

NEW YORK (CNN) -- We all awoke to headlines in our nation's most important newspapers reminding us that this is "A Day Without Immigrants." Not illegal immigrants, mind you, but immigrants. ~SNIP~ "The meat packers are confirming what we know," says University of Maryland economics professor Peter Morici, "and that is that this large group of illegal aliens in the United States is lowering the wage rate of semiskilled workers, people who are high school dropouts or high school graduates with minimal training." In fact, a meat-packing job paid $19 an hour in 1980, but today that same job pays...

If we are at war like your socialist neocon idol suggests, then why is he going on vacation. Shouldn't he be manning the command post? AND closing down the borders. Geez, I bet enough illegals swam into Texas just this week to pick a year's supply of lettuce. Yeah, I know, go back to DU or whatever. I just figured that since this is BOT Central, I'd just like to see you Bots try and defend this. And those of you who are eligible for military service shouldn't be here anyway. You should be over in Iraq helping to fight...

Another group of domestic enemies arrived in Havana looking to save Castro (ADM lackeys) HAVANA (AP) - Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer arrived in Cuba on a fact-finding mission accompanied by a diverse delegation that includes a Grateful Dead drummer, a British actress and U.S. agricultural representatives. The trip is sponsored by the Center for International Policy, a Washington-based lefty organization. Boxer, who arrived Friday, serves on the Foreign Relations Committee, a fact that will not be lost on Cuban officials who have been lobbying lawmakers for help in easing U.S. policies toward the island, especially the 40-year-old trade embargo and...
