Classy Serena will not be able to play in the U.S. Open, thus making all the line judges safer, unless she threatens to "shove a ball down their f'ing throat" from the stands. I don't understand the nature of her glass cut - how can something that severe happen in a restaurant that it requires foot surgery, for pete's sake? An additional benefit to her absence will be that we don't have to look at her horrendous wardrobe choices. OMG.

PARIS – Samantha Stosur of Australia started strong, pounding the ball from corner to corner and running top-seeded Serena Williams to distraction, but Williams, smacking aces at key moments, would not yield. Their quarterfinal French Open duel lurched forward as a contest of will and power. In the end, it was Stosur who prevailed in a fiercely fought 6-2, 6-7 (2), 8-6 victory to advance to the semifinals. Stosur’s two remarkable crosscourt passing shots — a forehand and a backhand, both on the run — led to her final push, breaking Williams’s serve and stepping her into the lead, 7-6,...

Playing her best at the most important events, Serena Williams re-established herself as the top player in women's tennis in 2009 and was a landslide choice as Female Athlete of the Year by members of The Associated Press. Williams received 66 of 158 votes cast by editors at U.S. newspapers that are members of the AP. No other candidate got more than 18 votes in the tally, which was announced Tuesday. Clearly, Williams' most infamous on-court episode - a tirade directed at a line judge after a foot-fault call near the end of her U.S. Open semifinal loss in September...

Kim Clijsters Advances to Finals Over Serena Williams Williams looks a little somber as she begins her serve, then slaps a backhand into the net. Then she hits an ace. Balance returning. She’s got to keep the ball in play here and doesn’t, hitting another backhand into the net. Clijsters is two points from the match and the finals. She’s got to keep that out of her mind. Williams goes up the T but misses, then foot faults. Scolding the lineswoman may help her get back her strength, but she’s down match point. Boos may also drive her back into...

urn to tennis and we see this week a pathetic Serena Williams in a profanity-ridden rant, because she is being beaten badly on the court and apparently cannot handle the self-induced humiliation, and so goes ballistic over an apparently bad call. I am sure she would have preferred, as in the past, the racist- to the profanity-card, had not the targeted umpire herself been a person of color. Of course, John McEnroe, Ilie Natase and Jimmy Connors set the present low standards in tennis. Ms. Williams is only following in their ends-justify-the-means footsteps. In about a week, her father will...

(AP Photo/Darron Cummings) NEW YORK -- Serena Williams walked toward the line judge, screaming, cursing and shaking a ball in the official's direction, threatening to "shove it down" her throat. Here is video of a total meltdown last night by Women's Tennis star Serena Williams at the U.S. Open after she was called for a "foot fall" during Match Point against Kim Clijsters. Clijsters had match point against Williams and Williams was serving. The official called her for a "foot fall," giving Clijsters two match points. Williams walked over to the official and said something several times. The official then went to the other officials and you can then hear Williams disputing with them saying, "I didn't say I will kill you!" She was assessed a one point penalty, giving...

Serena Williams became unhinged in a shocking display of vitriol and profanity toward a line judge at the most inopportune time Saturday night — right before match point for Kim Clijsters in the semifinals of the United States Open. In a matter of confusing minutes, Williams turned what had been a scintillating women’s match into an ugly and improbable spectacle that gave Clijsters, an unseeded wild-card entry making a joyful return to Grand Slam tennis, a 6-4, 7-5 victory she could not even celebrate. Clijsters, a 26-year-old from Belgium who is the mother of a toddler, had frustrated and dominated...

``The white man hated me all my life and I hate him. That's no secret. I'm not even an American, it just so happens I was born in America. People are prejudiced in tennis. I don't think Venus or Serena was ever accepted by tennis. They never will be. But if you get some little white no-good trasher in America like Tracy Austin or Chris Evert who cannot hit the ball, they will claim this is great.''
