Who's Right--The "Stimulators" Or The "Austerians"? Peter Schiff Jun. 28, 2010, 9:03 PM Despite the apparent deficit-cutting solidarity that emerged from this weekend's G-20 meeting in Toronto, it is clear that the great powers of the industrialized world have not been this philosophically estranged since the end of the Cold War. Ironically, in this new contest, the former belligerents have switched sides - the capitalists are now the socialists, and vice versa. We now are witnessing a struggle between two camps that I playfully call the "Stimulators" and the "Austereians." Both warn that a worldwide depression will ensue if governments...

U.S. Senate candidate Peter Schiff, a Tea Party favorite known for his gloomy predictions about the U.S. economy, has qualified for the Aug. 10 Republican primary. Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said today that Schiff gathered enough petition signatures he needed to challenge the endorsed Republican, former wrestling executive Linda McMahon. Rob Simmons, who qualified for a primary at the Republican State Convention, has curtailed his campaign, but he said today his name will remain on the ballot as well. "It doesn't change my thinking at all," Simmons said. "I am remaining on the ballot." Schiff, 47, the president...

Associated Press AP Political Writer June 7, 2010 HARTFORD, Conn. Connecticut elections officials are investigating whether Weston businessman Peter Schiff violated state laws by using out-of-state workers to collect signatures to petition his way onto the Republican primary ballot for U.S. Senate. In a complain obtained Monday by The Associated Press, James Bancroft, who said he was a founding member of the Hartford tea party group, claimed he was approached by a Schiff supporter outside a store in Newington last week and asked to sign a petition. Bancroft said he struck up a conversation with the worker, who said he...

But Simmons, who hinted in an interview earlier this week that he wouldn't continue the battle for the nomination if he lost at the convention, announced late Friday he would carry the fight into the Aug. 10 primary. ... But Schiff said that he would take advantage of Connecticut's open primary law and petition his way onto the Aug. 10 primary ballot nonetheless.

STAMFORD -- A plan formulated by the U.S. Senate campaign of Linda McMahon to pay students an extra $5 for each Republican registered during a voter registration drive at the University of Connecticut next week has drawn questions from election officials, lawmakers and at least one Republican vying for the nomination . . . "It's a practice that the Justice Department has frowned upon," Av Harris, spokesman for the Secretary of the State's office, which oversees voter registration, said . . .

U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon (R-Greenwich) said she supports President Barack Obama’s proposal to double America’s exports over the next five years, indicating that Congress should approve pending trade agreements and continue to expand its relationship with China, the largest country in the world . . . Mrs. McMahon said she has made tremendous progress since her entry into the race last September, when she trailed Mr. Simmons by 38 points in a poll conducted by Quinnipiac University. She noted that she led Mr. Simmons by 10 points in the poll that Quinnipiac conducted last month . . . CTMirror.com...

In a speech to Wall Street today, President Obama talked of a "failure of responsibility" in Washington and on Wall Street. But the financial sector is the most regulated part of the economy, so surely responsibility lies mostly with Washington. It was the federal government that created deposit insurance, which removed risk (and therefore caution) from bank deposits. It was also the feds that created "too big to fail," our new system of private profits and socialized losses. Most importantly, it was federal taxes and regulations that undermined our productive capacity, rendering us weak in the face of financial shocks....

For Republican candidates across the country, the movement du'jour seems to be a pledge to repeal health care reform if elected. Republicans are rushing to co-sponsor and promote efforts to repeal the bill on Capitol Hill. But not everyone is biting, exposing another fissure between the GOP's right and far-right. The latest GOPers caught in the mix are in Delaware -- with candidate Christine O'Donnell (R-DE) challenging Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) to sign on to repeal plans. Castle, like every single Congressional Republican, opposed the legislation. But he said that repealing "is not realistic." Similar spats have sparked across the...

Hello Everybody, Sunday, March 21, 2010, will go down in the history books as the day democracy died in America. Since Barack Obama took office last winter, the administration, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have edged America closer to the brink of socialism with their bailouts of the banking and automobile industries, mind-blowing spending and appointment of czars to micro-manage America. But yesterday, with the House passage of the Senate health care bill, the federal government officially crossed the line. The far left has socialized nearly one-fifth of the American economy and forced our health care under government control. Liberals...

On bringing down health care costs: "The free market is the best mechanism that we know to bring costs down. We've all experienced that in our daily lives, we see it in cellular telephones, flat screen TVs, laptop computers, every year they get more complicated, more intricate and every year the price comes down. Why isn't that working with healthcare? The reason is government . . ." On defense, part 1: "I understand national defense is the most important issue for the federal government..it's the main reason the founding fathers gave congress the ability to tax us in the first...

In this week's much anticipated State of the Union address, President Obama again demonstrated his poor understanding of the fundamental problems that confront our nation. By following the advice of the same people who helped guide our economy to the precipice of total collapse, Obama now threatens to push it over the edge. Notwithstanding his well crafted lip service regarding future spending restraint, the essence of his current program is for more government spending and larger deficits. For all his talk about job creation, his policies will further burden those who might otherwise create those jobs with higher taxes and...
