ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The Bernalillo County district attorney filed a lawsuit Monday against the New Mexico Civil Guard, a group that has showed up at protests in military-like uniforms, carrying guns, and telling people they are there to protect property. "When you have self-appointed police officers and military units out there advancing their own form of justice, there is no democratic accountability," District Attorney Raul Torrez said.  The lawsuit asks a judge to order the New Mexico Civil Guard to stop representing itself as a police force. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A small group of rioters took to the streets of Albuquerque Sunday night after a mostly peaceful Black Lives Matter protest. The rioters smashed out windows, started fires in streets and shot at police. Organizers of the Sunday march said those who turned to violence and vandalism were not part of their group. "I think we want to move away from black and brown folks being violent or aggressors. Like, that's not our thing. We just want to be heard, we just want to start a movement and open up a conversation,” said Hossanna Scott, an organizer.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – State prosecutors' motion to detain five adults arrested after a raid in northern New Mexico earlier this month was denied by a judge on Monday. Judge Sarah Backus made the determination the suspects weren't a danger to the community following several hours of testimony and evidence being presented by prosecutors. Siraj Wahhaj, Hujrah Wahhaj, Lucas Morton, Jany Leveille and Subhannah Wahhaj each face 11 counts of child abuse, after 11 children were found living in deplorable conditions at the site. Each suspect will have a $20,000 bond and will have to wear ankle monitors. In addition, they...
