Politicians take people's money with a promise to fulfill desires that supposedly can't be attained any other way. Prostitutes do the same, though by reputation, they are more reliable in delivering. It's not surprising for people in the same line of work to gravitate toward one another, as Eliot Spitzer and a woman named Kristen reportedly did in a Washington hotel room. I understand why Spitzer's alleged hiring of a call girl was stupid, selfish, reckless, immoral and a betrayal of his family. What I don't understand is why it was illegal. It's not as though sex is otherwise divorced...

For any of you who may have known Kenneth Roger Gregg, who was prominent for some years in libertarian intellectual circles: I received word from Ken's wife, Debbie Gregg, that Ken passed away in his sleep early this morning. Pam Maltzman

Online oddsmakers have Ron Paul in a comfortable third place finish among bettors in both the Republican Iowa Caucus and the New Hampshire primary. While third place may not be as good as an outright win, it's good enough to boost momentum for Ron Paul heading into future primaries where his treasure chest for advertising totals upwards of $20 mil. Many of the 2008 US Republican Presidential candidate's supporters believe that once voters realize Paul is a formidable candidate, finishing among the top 3, more Americans are likely to vote for him. Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney were in a...

WASHINGTON — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, the congressman from the Houston area who opposes the Iraq war, has gotten more contributions than any other White House contender from donors identified as affiliated with the military. According to a Houston Chronicle analysis of campaign records from January through September, Paul received $63,440 in donations from current military employees and several retired military personnel. Democrat Barack Obama, another war critic, was second in military giving. The Illinois senator got $53,968 during the nine months. He was followed by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz, a decorated Navy pilot and former Vietnam prisoner of...

Congressman Paul provided keynote remarks, followed by questions from CPFR's director Robert Guttman, the Financial Times White House correspondent Andrew Ward and members of the audience. Here is a link to the audio of Ron Pauls' speech today at SAIS

Republican presidential hopeful Rep. Ron Paul participates in the Londonderry Old Home Day Parade in Londonderry, NH, on August 18. Approximately 8,000 spectators lined up along the 1.2-mile parade route. CENTER STRAFFORD, N.H. — In a New Hampshire meadow on a recent weekend, Ron Paul is without a doubt the main draw at a Republican presidential straw poll that attracts several long shot candidates. Paying little heed to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Rep. Tom Tancredo, the immigration-control firebrand from Colorado, a crowd circles the Texan to quiz him on everything from foreign policy to the Federal Reserve's...

I got a press release the other day from Republican presidential contender Rudy Giuliani. He was announcing a photo opportunity. It seems a UFO will be landing soon to take him back to his home planet. Photographers are invited. Actually the press release didn't say that. What it really said is that Giuliani has appointed Norman Podhoretz as a foreign policy advisor. But the effect is the same. Only a visitor from another planet could think that the way to win the presidency of the United States is by taking foreign policy advice from the nuttiest man on Earth. That's...

In a startling report revealing a tale of transatlantic espionage not witnessed since the glory days of 007, the London-based Financial Times recently detailed how Britain, supposedly America’s closest European ally, has been leading a multi-year European undercover ('back-door') effort within the United States to undermine U.S. climate change policy. While this is not surprising, it does smack of interference with another nation's policies. It also happens to confirm prior ITSSD research, readily accessible on its website.

In Kelo v. New London, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that local governments have the power to seize private property for private redevelopment. What legal protections do Floridians have, if any, to protect us from such takings? What changes need to be made to state or local law in the wake of Kelo? What can Floridians do to see these changes are enacted? Hear Robert McClure, president and CEO of the James Madison Institute in Tallahassee answer these questions and more in his address to the Tampa Town Hall Meetup, Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Lone Star...

Hello, I was invited to join this Forum by a Libertarian Party member who is thinking of switching to the GOP. Didn't even know it existed. Great that it's here. I'm usually over at Yahoo Groups - Libertarian Republican, Republitarian or Mainstream Libertarian. Nice to be here. I see some old friends like Phil Blumel and Al Guitierez and John Reed. I founded the RLC in my living room in Tallahassee, Florida in 1990. After pronouncing the previous group - Libertarian Republican Organizing Committee (LROC) run by Justin Raimondo, as pretty much defunct. Glad to see that the RLC has...

Recently, the Brevard County commission had voted to put a ballot initiative asking the voters as to whether or not they wanted a one percent sales tax hike which would go supposedly for capital improvemnets. For the last seven years, the county has seen an increase in building of new homes and subdivisions. Resale of existing homes would have trheir assesed value increased. The result had been a big revenue windfall for the County. Then like all Big Governments, they decided to go on a spending spree even violating the CAPIT provisions that had been approved by voters two years...

In her book Hillary is again painted as the victim of her 'husband'. I think this proves she is running for President in 2004 and she will file for divorce before the end of the year to cement her role as victim. Not sure? If she waits for 2008 she will have to win her senate seat in 2006 and immediately begin her presidential race. I see her losing to Giuliani if she runs for the senate in 2006.

"The Communist revolution is the most radical rupture with traditional property relations; no wonder that its development involves the most radical rupture with traditional ideas. ...that the first step in the revolution... is to raise the proletariat to the position of ruling class, to establish democracy. The proletariat will use its political supremacy to wrest, by degrees, all capital from the bourgeoisie... Of course, in the beginning, this cannot be effected except by means of despotic inroads on the rights of property." Karl Marx, the Communist Manifesto

Here is an unbelievable posting from a German on a bulletin board system that I read as part of my industry. Since it is bad enough for him to interrupt a business bulletin board with such stupidity, I felt I had to share this. ===================================================== FROM joernlucht@gmx.net Dear MIM listers, Today I have had a conversation with a Danish client who stated that George W. Bush is the most dangerous man since Adolf Hitler! Me, being a German who is very well aware of European History, feel that I have to make a few comments (not to change anything but...

A new non-profit organization, Friends For America, is organizing to educate the public on the need to return power to States by returning to the election of US Senators by State legislatures. Friends For America is looking for volunteers in each State to help with organizing state and local chapters. These chapters will then work to educate citizens on 17th Amendment issues. For more information, go to friendsforamerica.org or friendsforamerica.com and volunteer to participate in this new movement. Friends For America's message is simple and powerful. The Founding Fathers placed the power to select US Senators in the hands of...

The ENEMY forged the stolen steel Delighted at the pain we would soon feel A hot branding iron to burn a 9 and 11 In the hearts of all righteous under Heaven The demons smiled and admired their work Then dedicated it with an unholy curse The plans were laid well, the deceptions intact With stooges called "martyrs" they began the attack They boarded the planes with thin, tight-lipped smiles Politely nodding to each small child - In a short time they’d know TERROR too real When their KILLERS captured the pilot’s wheel May the TWIN TOWERS of bright beacon...

One of the areas where rights come into conflict is when a parent harms a child. Most people can agree that a child does not belong in a home, where he/she is being harmed physically or emotionally. The problem is, most people cannot agree upon just what exactly constitutes a sufficient threshold of physical or emotional harm. Even more important, what is the means for quantifying such a threshold of physical or emotional harm, and what is the justification (if any) for removing a child from the care of his/her parent(s), when this threshold is met? Is there any justification...

"A law not repealed continues in force, not because it cannot be repealed, but because it is not repealed; and the non-repealing passes for consent.” - Thomas Paine I think that this logic applies to the consent of government as a whole. A government not dissolved continues in force, not because it cannot be dissolved, but because it is not dissolved; and the non-dissolution passes for consent of the governed. Based on this reasoning, I believe that the next logical question, in regards to Iraq, is: Can the Iraqi people dissolve their government? I think that the answer is yes....

There are several tactics for prevailing in a debate. Among these are: disproving the argument of your opponent and proving your own argument. Unfortunately, another tactic is to attack the credibility of your opponent. While the credibility of an individual does not alter the truth of what he or she speaks, this tactic works quite well in the arena of public discourse. Many Americans often fall prey to the notion that the logical fallacy of ad hominem argument is actually a legitimate argument. Of course, there are other logical fallacies that most Americans buy into: strawman argument; appeal to motives,...

By: Douglas Lorenz, RLC National Chairman (1) There have recently been a number of significant changes in the national Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC). Among the more obvious changes, the National Committee picked a new chairman. Of course, most people haven't heard about this recent change yet, and that is largely because, over time, the national RLC has lost contact with some of its state and local activists. Starting now, that is changing. The most important function of the Republican Liberty Caucus is to build an organization that helps Liberty-minded Republicans get active in politics. Our goal is to encourage...
