Another foreign automaker plans to create American jobs by making cars in the United States. Volvo said Monday that it will build a new manufacturing plant in South Carolina. Located in Berkeley County, it is expected to create 2,000 new jobs over the next decade, and up to 4,000 jobs by 2030. Construction will begin later this year and Volvo expects to begin rolling out cars from the factory in 2018. Volvo, which was bought by the Chinese automaker Geely Holding Group in 2010 from Ford Motor (F), makes cars in Sweden, Belgium and China. It first announced plans to...

UPDATE 12:15 pm EST: The Republican controlled legislature has passed the right-to-work legislation 58-51. Michigan Governor Snyder is expected to sign the bill into law later today. The vote to turn Michigan into a right-to-work state will take place today after days of protests in Lansing about the pro-worker legislation that prevents having to pay dues to a union. Not surprisingly, local police are bracing for possible violence today as more protests are planned. Even with the outcome considered a foregone conclusion, the heated battle over right-to-work legislation in the traditional union bastion of Michigan shows no sign of cooling....

The story is almost old hat these days. Despite constant warnings to be careful what you post on Facebook, a disgruntled employee who is irritated at a boss, a customer or a co-worker, takes to the social networking site to vent some spleen — and ends up getting disciplined or even fired. It’s a fate that has befallen a North Carolina waitress at a pizza restaurant, a Philadelphia Eagles stadium worker and a group of airline workers in recent months. But what if it’s the boss who decides to use Facebook to complain about an employee?

The U.S. Air Force on Friday named Northrop Grumman Corp. and EADS North America to build its next-generation fleet of aerial refueling tankers, spurning a bid from rival Boeing Co. in a surprise decision that could launch a new era of jet production in Mobile. The Air Force made its choice after a fierce competition between the two teams for one of the single largest defense contracts in U.S. history. Estimated at up to $40 billion, the deal includes 179 planes to be delivered over the next 15 years. Boeing was regarded as a heavy favorite by defense analysts...

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA - news) , the largest U.S. plane maker, halted production after its machinists' union went on strike Friday, voting to reject the company's latest contract offer. Shares of Boeing fell 2 percent on the New York Stock Exchange. The stock has risen more than 60 percent since April last year as the company has rebounded from Pentagon procurement scandals and management upheaval. But if the strike were a long one, Boeing's improved prospects could be threatened as it competes against European plane maker Airbus, an industry analyst warned. "We believe Boeing can easily...
